  • Month/Cycle: 3/3

    CD/DPO: 10

WTO - WAYDTGKU: HIO, CM, OPKs

    TWW - Timing:

    TWW - Testing:

R/R: My random rave is the bagel I'm eating from my cafe at work is fantastic!  TTC related, DH and I are trying to find a balance between HIO baby making style and HIO fun style.  I tried telling him that every other day is okay (it doesn't have to be everyday) and we can mix it up on the off days.  He said that if I didn't get KU he would blame it on that and be upset.  It might be time for him to watch The Great Sperm Race!  I'm also trying to refresh his memory that when we got KU with DD we had one month of "trying" which turned into stress, and the next month we were relaxed, didn't worry, and had fun with it and that's when it happened.  So hard for both of us not to over think this process!!

GTKY: What do you wish you knew more about?  I wish I knew more about astronomy.  I took a couple of classes in college and find it fascinating!

  • @KFrob I feel you on overthinking when to HIO and making sex feel like a chore. From what I recall, the odds of successful conception from doing ED v EOD are very similar, to the point that any benefit of doing it ED would be outweighed greatly by any stress/anxiety that causes. So far DH hasn't been complaining about all the extra sexy fun time in our house, but one thing that helps is to mix it up each night during FW, like different positions, lingerie, or even an afternoon delight during DD nap on the weekends.

    Month/Cycle: 4/4

    CD/DPO: 20/2

WTO - WAYDTGKU: OPK, HIO, CM, and threw in a glass of pomegranate juice each morning leading up to O

TWW - Timing: All of FW except -4

TWW - Testing:   Since I waited for AF to come last time, this time I'm going to start testing suuuuuper early. Like maybe 7dpo like a crazy person. See what makes me feel better?

R/R: Rant - DD is going through a sleep regression. She just learned how to jump out of her crib and now that she realizes she has a voice in the matter it is making bedtime and especially naptime a nightmare. I am so exhausted. Rave - We are going on a family trip this weekend for my mom's birthday and I'm pretty excited about that.

GTKY: What do you wish you knew more about? Finance and economics. We have an accountant that does taxes and so forth, but it's just a topic that I wish I had a better grasp of.

  • @lifesabeach85 Sorry about the sleep regression!  That sounds terrible.  I dread the day DD figures out how to get out of the crib!  Have fun on your trip!
  • Gonna jump on here incase we decide to start in November, otherwise we'll wait until December...but this is the beginning of my cycle if we start in Nov.

    Month/Cycle: 1/1

    CD/DPO: 1

WTO - WAYDTGKU: PNV, temping, tracking CM and cervix

GTKY: I'm in the same boat as @KFrob, I love the stars and planets, would love to know more! Also the human body, DH and I are binging Bones right now and I wish I knew what they were saying half the time lol

@lifesabeach85 sorry about the sleep regression! And the climbing out of the crib, that's really a game changer because then there's no confining them...good luck.

  • Month/Cycle: 6/6 CD/DPO: 5 WTO - WAYDTGKU: CM, BBT, OPKs, PNVs (gonna go get them right now) R/R: nothing much. Just bleeding over here. GTKY: What do you wish you knew more about? If I could magically learn about something without having to study/put in effort I really wish that I knew more about politics.
  • @KFrob A good bagel is hard to find; glad you found a new spot! Are you a classic butter / cream cheese kind of girl or do you go all out? I fully support both the EOD and the Great Sperm Race. My husband gets similarly frustrated that we might be doing things wrong, so I've started telling him really definitive and totally false things like "no, I'm definitely not O-ing until Monday so we're better off waiting until tomorrow" and "oh, I actually O'ed this morning so tonight's just for fun now." It seems to help  :p

@lifesabeach85 Dooo it! All the stick pee-ing! Love the idea of choosing your approach based on what makes *you* feel the best. No "rule" makes us more or less KU, so that's all that matters!

@CecilB93 Exciting! When will you decide whether November's a go?! And would that be in time to catch your FW this cycle?

@JennyColada The more I learn about politics the more it depresses me, but yeah, it would be a good thing for everyone of us in this country to know a little more about!

    Month/Cycle: 2/2

    CD/DPO: 19/10

    TWW - Timing: Not great

TWW - Testing: We kinda blew off this cycle after I got sick, so I'm not going to reward myself with testing. I've been having fairly short 24-25 day cycles, so I'll cave next Monday if AF hasn't shown!

R/R: Not TTC related, but in the 2 days that we've had our dog back DH's parents have offered up multiple suggestions re: what we're doing wrong with his training and care. I know it comes from a place of love and concern, but man does it make me nervous about them as grandparents!

GTKY: What do you wish you knew more about? Photography. A local university actually offers a couple "iPhone photography" continuing education courses each year, and I'd love to do it if schedules ever permit!

  • @emiliadkay Ya know, I'm all over the place with my bagel preferences.  It depends what I'm in the mood for.  My standards are everything bagel/plain cream cheese, plain bagel/strawberry cream cheese, or plain bagel/butter.  Also, with DH, he has that fainty vasovagal response thing with the human body, blood, and stuff like that.  So he does have a general lack of how stuff works going on.  So I have to be delicate in how much biology I get into with him.  I watched The Great Sperm Race to see if he can handle it, I'm on the fence.  I think its a great approach to the subject but they might use to many terms for him to handle.  Oh no on the IL front!  I would be so nervous about them butting in as grandparent!  As parents we just need to take everything with a grain of salt and realize its from a good place.  Sometimes that's hard!
  • @emiliadkay it kind of depends on when my FW is honestly. I have longer than normal cycles (about 39-41 days) so if it lines up just right, FW is the last week of Oct/beginning of Nov. And I seriously want to avoid a July DD because so many other direct family members are born in July. So it'll like get pushed to December :/ which my FW would be about middle of the month. AF surprised me a little early this time though, so I'm wondering how that changes things, i think it really just solidifies that it won't be until Dec, but I may give in at the end of Nov anyways, lol.

  • @CecilB93 yay for try #1! FX you'll be a unicorn who gets it on cycle 1!

@JennyColada Yes I feel like I have recently been forced to learn a lot more about politics, but an informed populace in general is a dream of mine...

@emiliadkay Looks like you hit -1, and if I was gonna pick just one day to BD that would be it.

  • Now I want a bagel. Specifically an asiago cheese bagel with regular cream cheese or a pumpkin bagel with honey nut cream cheese. Panera for the win, their coffee sucks but yumbang bagels.
@lifesabeach85 Sleep regressions suck. DS will be 3 in NOV and he is playing around with the idea of me getting him to drop his nap. But momma still needs that time so right now he's awake but in his room. Today though he is actually sleeping. So who knows.

    Month/Cycle: 3/3 (1/1 AL)

    CD/DPO: Day 1

WTO - WAYDTGKU: Vitamins, I may start temping Friday(haven't decided if I can emotionally invest in that this month)

    R/R: Drawing a blank today

GTKY: What do you wish you knew more about?Software mainly so I could make sense of what my husband is talking about, and history(nationally and worldly)

@kfrob I love a good bagel. Also, unless your fun HIO is anal or oral, it's still TTC sex because you never really know! Hell, I'd be happy with every two day sex at this point. When I conceived my son we had only had sex once in my FW. It's more about timing than frequency, frequency will just help ensure good timing! Definitely educate your DH any way you can. The Great Sperm Race was eye opening for my DH.

@emiliadkay that would make me nervous about them as grandparents as well :grimace:

    @CecilB93 yay for TTC!

@lifesabeach yikes, kinda makes me glad we never managed to get a crib to work. No real transition other than getting him in his own bed :joy:

    Month/Cycle: 2/0

    CD/DPO: ?

WTO - WAYDTGKU: Just more frequent sex and tracking CM. Didn't bring my PNVs or OPKs on vacation.... oops.

R/R: Just have a lot of friends getting KU with #2. Trying to be at peace with my choices and be patient.

GTKY: What do you wish you knew more about? So much! I'm a lifelong learner. But I would like to know more about the history of other countries.

  • @lalala2004 yeaaaaah something along those lines as far as HIO fun style ;) lol.  Also, its so hard to be patient when you've decided the time is right!
  • @kindbytealikat Ah! I forgot Asiago bagels!  Soooo good
  • @KFrob What is this Great Sperm Race thing I keep seeing you guys mention? I hope the "fun style" helps! :D

@lifesabeach85 If you have the tests and it makes you happy, go for it! I have a lot of tests that I can use once we're trying. I hope the climbing out of the crib doesn't last very long and that she realizes she needs to get her sleep. I'm sorry that you're so tired! Enjoy your trip!

@CecilB93 I'm that weird one where when I'm watching something and they mention something I don't know about, I look it up. I just can't help it. My Wikipedia and Google search histories are kind of insane.

@JennyColada What kind of PNVs are you using?

@emiliadkay We made bagels one day when I was still in school and they were such a pain in the butt that I've never made them again. I have a feeling that once we have a tiny person, my DH's parents will do the same thing re: "suggestions". They already do about everything else!

@kindbytealikat I also really want a bagel right now. The grocery store I used to work at had these amazing cheddar bagels that I'd get every day if they were fresh out of the oven. I loved those things. As far as the temping, I'm sure you know this, but if you can't handle it, don't. I hope you have a good month *creepy internet hug*

@lalala2004 I have to admit, I'm so used to HIO here meaning standard "penis in vagina" sex that seeing someone mention anal or oral made me do a double take, lol. Nothing wrong with either of those (*innocent whistle*), it was just one of those "Wait, what?" moments. I have a lot of friends getting KU in general at the moment and it's been a little frustrating.

GTKY: What do you wish you knew more about? This is pretty simple, but I wish I knew how to speak Spanish. I have a lot of guests that I can't help properly because I can't communicate with them very well.

I'm CD22 right now, so my next cycle should start sometime within the next week! Then we get to start!

  • There are some excellent bagel ideas in this thread. I am taking mental notes for future bagel orders lol. I personally love a blueberry bagel with just butter on it :)

I also want to know more about this Great Sperm Race y'all have mentioned! I'm assuming it's a movie? Is it available free somewhere?

GTKY: What do you wish you knew more about? I am really fascinated by languages and linguistics, I'd love to know more about how different languages came about.
  • Am I the only one who doesn't like bagels?

@kindbytealikat yeah I'm gonna insist on "quiet time" even when DD drops the nap. I need that time. Glad you're starting trying again - fx for y'all!

@lalala2004 is DS in your bed? I have heard that can be a tough transition. Hope your cycles and your HiO become more regular soon!

    @dreamscapes_ yay for starting!

  • The Great Sperm Race was available on YouTube in a few parts when I watched it. It is a British documentary that goes through the process for a sperm to actually fertilize an egg and can be really eye opening about how complicated of a process it really is. So many men just think you have sex and
And the documentary really shows how it's not always that simple. Since most men are unlikely to see the need to read Taking Charge of Your Fertility or do Fertility Friend tutorials, I think it's a good way to get them on the same page for TTC.

It's been over 2 years since I had my DH watch it, and he will still occasionally bring up things that he learned by watching it. Although he still sometimes say dumb things like "Maybe having sex will make you ovulate!" But I digress....

it was rated very highly and many of the ingredients are easily bioavailable.
  • @KFrob Yes to strawberry cream cheese! Love that this thread has become the bagel thread. Especially when tomatoes are in season, I recommend a couple slices stacked on the cream cheese on an everything, poppy seed or multi grain bagel. Heavenly.

@dreamscapes_ & @diaphena I'll join you in wanting to know more about languages, either to speak one in particular or just about them generally. I wish I'd considered linguistics as a major more seriously in college.

@lifesabeach85 Maybe you just haven't found the right bagel for you, yet. Keep searching. He may be out there. ;)

@lalala2004 I love YH's theory of sex-induced ovulation. Gotta applaud the creativity!
  • @lalala2004 Awesome, thanks, I'll take a look tonight and see if it is still on youtube. Also, LOL at sex making you ovulate! Where do guys get these ideas from? Like is the sex gonna shake the egg out??

@emiliadkay I thought about a linguistics minor in college for a hot second, but the professor who taught those classes was kinda intimidating (I had him for Spanish grammar and wow he was tough), but mainly I couldn't think of how I'd actually use a linguistics degree. It's still really interesting to me though!

To be fair, he knows that semen has prostaglandins that can help bring on labor, so I guess he thought it might have other uses

  • To add to what @lalala2004 said, The Great Sperm Race was really entertaining too!
  • @dreamscapes_ I didn't even think about languages!! I'd love to speak French and Greek fluently! I wouldn't mind others too, but those are my two top picks.

  • @lifesabeach85 I took a test once even though DH and I were using condoms every single time...and we had no suspicions of one breaking, just me SS and thinking my PMS symptoms were pregnancy related. I was a couple days "late" but my cycle is never right on time, so I wasn't shocked to see a BFN, lol.

  • Oh my god, how is it Thursday night and I'm just now getting a chance to write?  Sorry, guys, I’ll try to catch up!

@kfrob Well, now I want a bagel, too, with all the yummy bagels described here.  Sometimes I get really excited about a bagel, and then it turns out to be a crappy cheap bagel.  I suppose that’s what I get for getting excited about bagels at a hotel continental breakfast.

Also, I think I read something once about it being good have sex every day partly because it makes sure that the sperm are really fresh. I don’t remember where I read it, though, so I don’t know if it’s true.  But with that logic, alternating reproductive sex with “fun” sex could still be a good thing because it makes sure that the sperm are really fresh when they need to do their job.  Maybe that argument would help?  Especially if it makes it easier to keep HIO day after day?

@lifesabeach Good luck with sleep regression.  My DS is a bit of a chicken, so I don’t know if he’ll ever have the guts to try to climb out of his crib.  I am super grateful for that.  Maybe the change of scenery on the trip will magically reset something?

@CecilB93 November is so close!  But so is December.  That’s so exciting!

@emiliadkay Boo for getting sick.  I swear something is conspiring to make me and/or DH sick at exactly the wrong time each cycle.  And I would be super nervous if my in-laws had that much to say about my dog.  But maybe it’ll be different when it’s a kid?

@kindbytealikat Ooh, dropping the nap sounds scary.  My mom says we all stopped napping when we were two, which makes me really nervous that it’s genetic and DS will do the same.  I think enforcing quiet time whether or not he sleeps is a really good idea.

@dreamscapes_ Hooray!  That’s super exciting!  And it’s nice to actually look forward to AF for once.

@lifesabeach Yes.  (I think you are the only one who doesn’t like bagels.)  And I haven’t taken a test at 5 dpo, but I did take a few when I not only had my IUD in, but hadn’t had sex in several weeks and had already taken a test two weeks earlier.  And I always scrutinize multiple times, just in case I missed a hint of something.

    Month/Cycle: 3/4

     CD/DPO: 17/5

WTO - WAYDTGKU: PNV, CM, BBT, SEX.  And I got some multivitamins for DH and we both started taking CoQ10.  Fortunately, I said “if I got you some vitamins that might help, would you take them?”  And he said “Of course.”  So I didn’t have to talk him into it, which made me glad.

     TWW - Timing: -3, -1

TWW - Testing:   Holding out until next Saturday, if AF hasn’t come yet.

R/R:  I was initially afraid that I O’d on CD 9, which is both early enough to worry me that there wasn’t time to set everything up in there, and too early for me to try hit the fertile window.  But it looks like I actually O’d on CD 12, which is what I expected.  So that was a relief and we got two times in.

Also: Does anyone else find themselves thinking about Fertility Friend like it causes ovulation, instead of just interpreting the signs for it?  I find myself wanting to lie to it, not so that it reflects what I actually think is going on, but so that it will make what I want to happen happen.  Like when I thought I O’d on CD9, I wanted to change those high temperatures so that my body would hold off until a few days later.

GTKY: What do you wish you knew more about?  Oh, so many things.  I think mostly about how things work and how to fix things.  I wish I understood my car so that I could at least know if someone is trying to screw me over.  Same for fixing my house.  Also things like loans and billing and contracts and insurance.  You know, adult things.

  • hahaha @lifesabeach85, you've made my morning. But now that you've tested at 5dpo, it would really be illogical not to test at 6dpo and 7dpo, right? ;)

@Secretstapler I've heard the same thing about the benefits of "fresh" sperm and clearing the pipes regularly. This is an embarrassing confession, but we rarely have sex between AF and FW (since I O fairly early and we want to conserve our enthusiasm), so I nag my husband about being sure to "take care of things" a couple days ahead of time. TTC is so weird.
  • @emiliadkay Yeah, we actually don't have much sex outside the FW either.  I also O early, so I pretty much go straight from AF to FW.  I try really hard to get at least one time in early in the window so we get fresh sperm at O.  TTC is definitely weird, I have had some really strange  conversations with DH.  And I share really odd information with strangers on the internet.
  • It's my understanding that the frequency or lack thereof of sex only affects sperm quality/quantity if there is a male fertility issue, and if not it really doesn't matter.
    *Siggy Warning*

  • @Secretstapler I don't use FF, I use Ovia, but I definitely do similar things.  Like, if I don't enter some symptom I'm having, like cramps, then it will some how magically indicate that I'm pregnant and will make it happen in real life.  I also change things to see if it moves my fertile window.... these are terrible habits.

@lalala2004 Interesting, and this article definitely agrees with your understanding. They claim current research shows that sperm does go stale but, unless there are MFI issues, it takes 10-ish days of abstinence for it to be a problem. Thanks for setting me straight!
  • @emiliadkay @lalala2004. Yeah, that makes sense.  My thought was less about the veracity of the statement and more that @KFrob could tell her husband that he's still helping the cause even if they didn't do that particular act that day.  And actually, we often go more than 10 days between sex, so I will continue to try to have a warm up day before it really counts.
