    5. GTKY: What is your favorite Halloween/scary movie?

If the original Halloween movie is on, I have to watch. I probably won't sit through the whole thing. But it doesn't feel like Halloween if I don't watch atleast some of it.

  • 1. How many weeks are you? How big is your baby?

I'm officially four weeks I guess?  I talked to Midwife today and we talked about adjusting it due to my cycle length and we landed on June 14.

    2. How are you feeling?

I'm feeling nauseous, having some general digestion issues and tired. But overall thrilled. TTC for as long as we did, I feel like this huge weight has been lifted with a BFP.

    3. Any appointments coming up?

I scheduled our bloodwork for the beginning of November. Now we wait!

    4. Rants, raves, questions?

Has anyone had a homebirth in this group?  I made some pretty big changes in regards to my birth strategy this time, including venue change from homebirth with my second to hospital now with my third. I'm just wondering if anyone has an ear to listen to the word vomit about my choice.

I had dinner with a friend last night who doesn't know where expecting yet, and I casually mentioned that I've been considering a venue change and she looked at me like I had three heads.  I work in extremely crunchy parenting network/system around here. I think I will get a lot of questions about why I made a different decision.

    5. GTKY: What is your favorite Halloween/scary movie?

I think it's debatable as a Halloween movie, but the nightmare before Christmas is my favorite Halloween movie. It's a multi-holiday movie, so I'm not sure it counts. I am a basic b*tch that loves Hocus Pocus too.

    3. No appointment until Oct 26, I will be 8 weeks, seems like an eternity away still!

    4.  Would you ladies travel to Playa Del Carmen, Mexico when you are 16 weeks?   We planned to take the family to Mexico for Christmas this year.

    5. I hate scary movies!  I do like Hocus Pocus though, I am going to watch it with my 11 year old DD this weekend.

  • @morristhecatmom I am interested in this conversation on venue change! I’m not on this ticker change. I think mine is Wed. But I couldn’t help but comment. I have family that have done both and one sister who is pg and having her second at a hospital instead of home because her home Birth ended up at the hospital anyway. I am pretty firm a hospital girl because I just like them but I totally see both sides.
  • @morristhecatmom not my ticker change but I'd be interested in why you switched. I'm too chicken to do home birth.
We are so excited to grow our family!

  •  So I loved my homebirth. Loved it.  A few things were really anxiety producing around it for me.  I'm not the best housekeeper, and so the stress of getting my house clean enough to have people in its nooks and crannies while I was giving birth was really anxiety producing for me.  Collecting all the items for the birth kit and making sure there was food in my house to feed myself and my family after having a baby was crazy. I did the before baby comes shopping trip probably three times because I went over by two weeks.

I also at the time only had a 20-month-old,  she was easily entertained by my sister while I was in labor. I now will have a five and three-year-old,  I honestly do not think it will add to my birthing experience to have them there.  DD was weaned by the time I gave birth, and I highly doubt my son will be completely weaned by the time this baby comes.  He might surprise me, but for right now I don't know if I want him nursing a ton while I'm in labor. While in laboring at home, I know it's a good stimulant to labor,  he's just super super attached to me and I'm afraid in labor I might push them away and make him feel certain ways etc.

I initially chose homebirth because I was pressured into tons of interventions with my first.  I was induced earlier than I should've been, given lots of crap about being overweight etc. I met different people after I had my daughter and met different providers after starting to work in the first world. I loved my homebirth provider,  loved my experience.

Just for the third time around, it cost the same for me to have a hospital birth as it does a homebirth, when I look at what insurance covers and what my co-pays are etc.  I don't feel like I fully rested with my first homebirth as well as I should have. I was jumping up and doing stuff when I needed to be resting and I hope the hospital will allow for that. My DH is super supportive and a rockstar partner, I just can't sit back and watch him handle taking care of all four of us.

  • I'm still going to strive for a intervention and med free birth. The recovery was night and day difference for me from an induction with epidural with my daughter from a 30 hour labor, to an eight hour spontaneous labor med free one with my son.  But being in the hospital, I reserve the right to change my mind and that's OK too.

Without telling one of my friends that I'm pregnant, I mentioned casually that I might be thinking of a venue change for a third baby when we did get pregnant. She looked at me like I had three heads.  So a lot of my anxiety about switching from a homebirth to a hospital birth is truly the judgment I'm going to receive for my crunchy friends. But, I feel good about my decision.  I'm a different person than I was three years ago the last time I was pregnant and making these decisions.

I'm still delivering with my initial Midwife from my daughter, but now she is in the solo practice. We had had her with three other midwives, two of which I did not like at all and were very critical of my weight and FTM status.  I've been seeing this Midwife for my well-woman care for the last three years and have really built a great connection with her. She called me as soon as she saw I called to make my first appointment and congratulated me. She also sat and talked to me for 20 minutes on the phone assuring me that unless medically necessary, they wouldn't induce me again.

  • @morristhecatmom Please don't let your friends influence your decision in this matter. The choice is yours not theirs! Going into the birthing process is so much different the third time around than the first, you know the process and your body. I think it's definelty easier to be influenced into early induction as a ftm than on subsequent births. Plus for me at least, having that one/two nights of your hospital stay with just you, DH and the newbie it's going to feel like heaven. Getting to soak up every bit of newborn goodness without having to worry about the immediate needs of my other two kiddos is not gonna happen again once we get home. I've had both my births at the hospital and they were mostly med-free. I had to have pitocin with my first because I stalled but no pain meds. The biggest difference my experiences was with my second I labored at home until basically the last minute then went in. I waited almost too long but laboring at home was so much more comfortable and easier to get through for me. I plan on doing the same with #3, as long as this LO cooperates.

  • I'm really hoping to labor at home as long as possible. The hospital is 20-25 minutes away, so it should be doable.

I also have the confidence in my body to know that it does know how to go into labor on it's own (at 41w 6 days but still). I was taking so much evening primrose oil, which I guess can lead to PROM (premature rupture of membranes). That's what happened, my water broke but no labor for 18 hours so I agreed to an induction. So I skipped it the second time around. Here's hoping no health issues get in the way!

My sister agreed to come and stay with my kids from when labor starts until we get home from the hospital. So that's a huge relief. Her kids are 13 and 16, so she can get away for a bit.

While most people say that their home Birth vs hospital birth or natural vs meds recovery was night and day, I don’t have that experience at all. One of mine was freakin hellish natural and my other was epidural and pit (because of PROM) and I honestly had a better recovery from the epi/pit Birth. While both I had a good recovery the epi/pit Birth was just an easier recovery. All this to say I was very adamant about my rights and my needs, and I feel like it has so much more to do with knowing your body and your needs than it does with anything else.
