Sneak Peek

Has anyone else heard of sneak peek?

If you havent, it's a kit you can buy that can tell you the sex at 9 weeks!  They look for male DNA in your blood sample to determine boy or girl.  Over 99% accurate and if they are incorrect you get a full refund when baby is born.

Im so tempted to buy it.  It's only $80.  This is my 3rd baby and I'm just way too impatient to wait for another 13 weeks lol

Re: Sneak Peek

  • A women from my previous bump group wants me to use it. I'd rather not. The longer I can go without this baby having an assigned sex the better.
  • Loading the player...
  • I strongly considered it, but decided against it when I saw some reviews on Amazon saying they got incorrect results.  I was too afraid I would still just question the results until it got confirmed/denied by a blood test or u/s lol.  Also, I am not good with blood and saw a lot of reviews saying the collection of the blood was hard.  So I decided against it, but I totally understand wanting to do it!
  • I get wanting to know.... but... does it really matter? What will you do differently once you know? I felt so compelled with my first to know the sex- but in the end I wondered why I was so hurried. I understand the type-A idea of wanting to get everything ready and prepared... but you never know what size they'll wear during what season, so pre-buying too many clothes isn't really a great idea. Unless you're building a Pinterest-worthy nursery that somehow depends on the sex... the wait is part of the fun!

I'm not a patient person. This is our first time team green and I have money on that we won't make it til birth not knowing. But, I just don't really see why its so important to know so early.
    Married DH <3 : 7/7/12; 3 fur babies (2 dogs and 1 cat)
DS born 9/3/13; DD born 7/22/15; LO due 5/28/18
FS (age 5) and FD (age 2) to become AS/AD very soon!

  •  $80 could buy like 3 boxes of diapers! Haha
This. To each their own, but I'm with @lincbeesmom

  • I've read bad reviews on it. I thought about it just because we have a lot to do when it comes to the nursery (it's currently my office with racks all over the walls) but at the same time I don't care what baby is. It's my second and everything is gender neutral.
  • Interestingly, if you're a chimera, just detecting male DNA in your bloodstream might not be enough.  It's pretty rare, but some women have a male twin's parts or cells in their body, still living.  It's called chimerism, and it can cause you to have two different colors of eyes or hair.

  • @mommabmb it doesn't matter at all  B)  just don't want to spend the next few months trying to come up with another boy name if we don't need to.

Like I said, just impatient and curious.

My insurance won't pay for the genetic test since I'm only 27 and have zero family history on either side so this is far cheaper.

Not sure if I will do it or not, but it looks pretty fun.  It's so tempting to have the ability to know this month

  • That's one of the reasons I can't wait to find out the sex!  Then I only have to worry about either girl's names or boy's names and not both! :-p
  • @Ceridwen77 pregnancy can be fun too  ;)  if you can wait- cool good for you! :)

I was team green my last pregnancy, and I enjoyed every minute of it.  This time around we will be finding out the sex, and I’m sure it too will be a fun experience.

  • @ivyvines6 I'm sorry to hear that.  It's not always a walk in the park for sure.  I hope this one is more fun for you.

@Ceridwen21 I admire those that can go team green lol I most definitely  never could.  DH wants to this time and I'm like you can, but I can't lol.  Literally couldn't.  We joke that this baby will probably cross their legs so we won't be able to see

My DD crossed her legs so even if we wanted to know the sex we couldn’t have through the ultrasound (I had two anatomy scans and she was lady-like both times). Although I am AMA so I could have found out through a blood test at 10wks, but the legs crossed thing does happen.
  • We will find out through our genetic testing.  DH will know, but not me!  (until I break)

If the genetic tests in the doctor's office need you to at least be 10 weeks along to have enough of the baby's cells in your blood, why are people trusting an amazon seller product?
Sneak peek requires you to be 9 weeks and it is the same technology as the NIPS tests, which not everyone is eligible for. It seems like it makes sense they wouldn't need to collect as much if all they are looking for is presece/absence of Ys. The doctors tests are much more detailed.

PS it's technically placental DNA not the baby's DNA (for both).
  • @Pearlvirus I want to revive this thread as I’m thinking of ordering the sneak peak.  I’m having the NIPT testing at my Dr on 10/26 but I’m kind of curious about getting the sneak peek to do now that I’m almost ten weeks partially to compare the results and partially because I’m incredibly impatient. Seems like I read a lot of reviews online saying it’s either great or terrible but I’ve also read that they’ve greatly improved their accuracy over the past few years. Not sure. The sex doesn’t matter to me but like I said I’m impatient and curious so I’m thinking of getting it.
  • Funny you mention this, I just sent mine in this morning! I guess it will be a while before I know if I'm a satisfied customer or not though, lol
  • @Pearlvirus I'm interested to see if it is right! I know you will keep us posted. They will give you your money back if wrong?
  • I liked knowing the sex early because  it made a huge difference to me to call my baby by name.
Same.  We also wanted to have the nursery ready beforehand.

I was team green last time and we had our nursery ready well before she was born.
  • @Ceridwen77 we wanted to choose a specific theme to grow with the child.  We chose marvel comic book characters and it's working pretty well into toddlerhood.

We chose Harry Potter/owls and it’s been great. She loves owls and all of the whimsical HP stuff.
  • Oh man now that I am 9 weeks today I am still dying to do this lol.  I think I have hubby talked into it.

@Pearlvirus  how was the test?  Easy to follow?  I've heard you need a crap load of blood and the lancets they give aren't very helpful.  How was your experience?

  • @bwow615 yep I'll update if it was right or not! And yes, that is my understanding, hopefully won't have to go there.

@MrsPrice519  Eh, it wasn't terrible. I'm not super comfortable with blood or needles, so that sucked but the lancet worked fine (I only used one) and I got enough blood without that much squeezing. Dunno, I'd say overall it was about on track with my expectations.
  • I just ordered my test.  Hopefully I'll know in about 7 days :)
