TTC after 35

Anyone TTC Naturally after failed IVF?

Hello. As you can see from my siggy, I went through 3 ERs and 1 FET this past year, but was unsuccessful.  To make matters worse, I had a very rare and serious complication following my 3rd ER such that I was hospitalized, had blood transfusions and emergency surgery to stop the abdominal bleeding that was caused by a burst blood vessel/artery near my ovary.  Not sure if it was caused by the stim medication or the actual procedure, but it was all so traumatizing for my DH and me that we decided to cease all IVF treatments, as we can't risk that happening again.  I am slowly coming out of the sadness and am thinking about TTC naturally and wondering if anyone might be doing the same and/or had success trying naturally after IVF?  I actually have no idea if I can even get pregnant, as I've never been pregnant and my DH and I married later in life, so we went straight to IVF following my fibroid surgeries. Would love to hear any hopeful stories and/or meet any others in the same boat.
Me: 41; DH: 45
Both married for the first time in our 40s; went straight to IVF after multiple fibroid surgeries
(2/17) ER: #1:  agonist/antagonist protocol: 19 eggs; 8 mature; 13 fertilized; 1 7-day blast (6BA = abnormal/non-viable)
(4/17) ER: #2: same protocol but stimmed an extra 2 days:  16 eggs; 10 mature (5 more matured in lab); 13 fertilized; 2 6-day blasts (5AA & 6BA) & 2 7-day blasts (6BA & 5BB):  only 1 Day 6 6BA tested normal!
FET on 7/10/17
Beta on 7/21/17:  Negative:(
(8/17) ER #3:  9 eggs; 6 mature; 3 fertilized; 1 7-day blast (6BA = abnormal/non-viable)
Developed severe complications (abdominal bleeding) following egg retrieval which required hospitalization, transfusion & emergency surgery.  Done with IVF.

  • @angelbea hi! I recognize you from the July/August IVF board. I’m glad you’re here but sorry you’re here, you know what I mean. I’m on IVF 4, stimming right now, and have never gotten a blast to go to freeze. So I’m relating to you. I’m sorry for everything you went through with this last retrieval, can’t inagine! In answer to your question, if this cycle or the next (maybe) cycle of IVF don’t work for me, then we have no more coverage so will have to go back to natural. I just turned 43 so am planning in advance for the natural trying possibility by having recently changed my diet and focusing on getting healthier for egg quality since that’s my issue. I wish you the best and please join our weekly board here, we have others who are TTCA35 naturally!

  • Thanks for the note @Momifbysea -- I remember you too:)  I will join the weekly board as well - thanks for the invite:)  Good luck to you on your next ER.  I would have kept going too, but I could have lost an ovary (or worse!) during the surgery to stop the bleeding, so I just don't want to risk it again.  Do you plan to do a frozen or fresh transfer?  I know that most REs now seem to be leaning towards frozen transfers, but I do wonder now if a fresh (3 day) might be better, since the testing can cause damage and/or result in mosaic embies that could auto-correct?  Who knows -- IVF has so much potential for regrets and second-guessing.  Oh -- my neighbor and a relative got pregnant naturally at 43 after their failed ivfs.  Just wanted to share that hopeful story -- we all need to hear them:)

We are doing PGS testing, so Frozen. Our RE strongly recommends the testing for all his patients but esp AMA.

Edited because I forgot to say I love those hopeful stories! And I totally understand your going natural after that experience. The risk just sounds like too much.
