Pregnancy Pillow Anyone?

I am only 6 weeks and I am still in the bloat, not bump phase of things but this baby is messing with my sleep already. My 4 and 6 year old aren't helping either because they sneak into my bed every night so I was thinking in investing in a pregnancy pillow to bring my comfort level up and act as a baracade from the older two's kicking feet.

Anyone else using a pillow yet or have used one in past pregnancies? Any recommendations appreciated!

  • I am using mine! It helps reduce back ache and is so comfy!
  • I've legitimately been considering one of these for my husband lol he loves his body pillow but they dont make one long enough (he usually sleeps with it between his knees but now with tendinitis in both elbows he's started pulling it up to support them. So i've been looking at the snoogle or something like this:

I'm thinking though.... it's just a long pillow, I might consider trying to sew it

  • I loved mine when I got REALLY pg with my son. Just a heads up that those things are huge, so if you don't have a king bed- your SO might end up on the couch! LOL

  •  My snoogle is in PA at my parents house and I live in VA. I can't wait until it comes home! My husband on the other hand... not looking forward to it so much. Ha. I care none. That thing is life. I started taking about it weeks ago.

That's what concerns me... We have a king size bed so we'll both fit now! I can't picture both of us, a giant monstrosity of a pillow, and an occasional good morning doodle fitting in there...
  • I actually got rid of mine because I didn't like it. It was too big and bulky and I couldn't ever get my comforter right hahaha

  • I posted this in the randoms thread in response to this question... I just got a cheap body pillow from target for my previous pregnancy. Got the job done and didn't break the bank. I added a super soft fluffy cover for a bonus.
  • I got a body pillow earlier in pregnancy and fell in love with it. I tried the snoogle and another pregnancy pillow and hated them. Body pillow all the way. And it wasn't too bulky.
When I was in the hospital on and off before delivery, I was able to use the body pillow in the hospital bed and was happy I could.
  • I got a regular body pillow that we could use on our bed afterwards. It worked great my last pregnancy. I will be using it again soon!
  • I love my snoogle. My husband had to force me out of it after DD was born. It was so comfy.
  • Here's a question for STM+.. last pregnancy my only issue with sleeping was that I would wake up with horrible hip pain.  The best way to describe it was it felt like I slept on top of a golf ball on a hardwood floor all night.  I could pinpoint the pain to one small spot on whatever side I slept on.  The snoogle didn't help this at all.  Was I using it wrong?  Or is there something else out there that has helped with anyone else's hips?
  • With DD, I put a pillow between my knees and one beside my belly when I slept on my side to help support my belly, hips, and knees. I would love to try one of the big body pillows, but me and DH already fight for space on our queen bed, so I'll probably do something similar this time lol.

  • I also used a regular body pillow last time. It was a lot cheaper, not as bulky and super comfortable.

I get really bad hip pain from very early in pregnancy. I can only assume it's the hormones loosening the ligaments etc...

i tend to sleep on my side with one side of the pillow between my knees, but without pulling my knees up too far. I try to tuck the other side behind my back. It really does help me, but everyone is different.
What @cerisrichard said. Sleeping that way helps. I also (at the risk of exposing how much of a hippie I am and how much I believe in chiropractic medicine) really got a lot of relief from a chiropractor.

  • I used a regular body pillow last time but usually put a second small pillow behind my back. We only have a queen bed so I’m not sure if a wrap around pillow would fit.

BUT this pillow is currently under $40 on Amazon so I may have to go for it! Pregnancy Pillow,

  • I love my Snoogle! The trick is to find a comfortable position for you and your partner, or else, like you ladies already said, DH will end up on the couch.

I'm already in love with my chiropractor.
  • I've slept with a body pillow since I was like 15. It's kind of a bad habit because it stinks for traveling. I think I will treat myself to a fluffy new one pretty soon though. :) I tried the snoogle and hated it, I felt trapped.
  • @Cerisrichard thanks for the suggestion!  I'll definitely try it out

@mommabmb I too am a hippie but am new to the chiropractic world.  I've seen other moms recommend it for various pregnancy related issues so I'm thinking it's something I need to look into
  • I did a body pillow with my last two pregnancy but my pillow has seen better days so maybe I just replace it.
  • Yes! I was just mentioning this on the symptoms thread. People wait too long to get one. I bought a snoogle and felt a little guilty about the cost, but I would fork over wads of cash for all the hours of sleep its already saved me. And no more sore boobs! It's amazing.
  • I need to get one of these!!!! I want the big U shaped one. I just haven't wanted to spend the money yet... I am cheap lol. But my body pillow is flat, I have to bend it in half! My hips have been bugging me for the last 2-3 weeks. I had the pelvic gurtle pain last pregnancy, my ligaments loosened way to early, had the grinding by 18 or 19 weeks. My body pillow did help then. I also had a lounge type sitting pillow I ended up using closer to the end... between heartburn and hip pain, I slept better, nearly sitting by the end. I am loving these reviews though! I think it's time to splurge on one of these 40-50$ pillows! Oh and SO doesn't mind... he wants one of his own. Lmao he would steal our sons boppy pillow!
  • Love my snoogle and I have already whipped it out.... we do have king which is better for hubby

  • UO, I didn't lIke the snoogle, I bought it last pregnancy and returned it a few days later. Just could not get comfortable with it.
  • Last pregnancy, I used the boppy pregnancy pillow. It has three detachable parts, so you can use the parts you need if you don't want to use the whole thing. Right now I'm just using the leg part between my knees. Later in pregnancy I needed back support too, so I would wedge a regular pillow under my lower back and lay back on a slant on it. That also helped relieve pain in my hips. @fraufarbissina I also get bad hip pain later on. I bought a twin size memory foam mattress pad for my side of the bed and it helped. DH didn't want one for his side, so we skipped the king.
  • I saw this thread and ordered one. I thought it was silly before I had a belly but the back pain is killing me! I can't wait for my pillow to arrive!!! I've warned DH... hehe

  • I used a king sized pillow last time, and still use it. I just don't want something that big in the bed, but I think it would be way comfier - my solution isn't that great.
  • I’ve been using the pillows off of the couch as a makeshift pregnancy pillow. lol. It works though! I’ve been having not great sleep, but have been sleeping better that I was beforehand. How much do these pregnancy pillows cost?
  • I loaned my SIL my snoogle and she hated it and gave it away! Bitch, that expensive pillow was mine!
I still mourn my original snoogle loss. My husband will soon mourn the loss of extra bed space when I order a new one.

I used a regular body pillow the first time around. I need to bust it out soon as my bloat could use a little extra support lol ugh bloat.
  • Just ordered the Meiz U shaped pillow! I hope it helps.
  • I have a body pillow and it’s ok.  Good thing to start with and worked last pregnancy.  I just got big enough I can’t belly sleep anymore  :'( so now I’m laying half way on my side half way on my back with the body pillow between my knees and hugging it and another pillow behind my back supporting me.  Much more comfortable then on my belly the last week and has greatly reduced the number of times I wake up to pee at night.  If this awkward set up stops working I might look into pregnancy pillows but they are so pricey.
