My 19 month seems to be pretty red on her va jj. Can i put diaper rash cream on that area? Or is there something else. She barely lets me touch it...not sure if she is sore or just hates her diaper changed.
I agree - slather it on. It has to help it feel better! I have used the trusted Aquaphor and Malox mixture for most rashes, but I would go with A&D or just plain Aquaphor on the more sensitive skin areas.

Yeast just exist in the body (boys too). They thrive on wet, hot conditions. It just happens. They are ususally really red though, but can look like diaper rash. Probably just plain irritated though. Try some A&D. I said if it didn't work, then it could be.
Oh yeah, yest infection, I forgot about that, and when my DD had what I and my doctor thought was one, Dr. said you can use Lotriman on it, obviously I would check with your Dr. first, but that is what mine said.

I have been putting some A&D on it but not very frequently....and it hasn't gone away. I guess I will try it more frequent for a day or two and then bring her in.
How soon should the ointment work? She has only had a regular diaper rash once when she was on antibiotics so I don't remember how soon it went away.
A few things...if she doesn't want you near it, I'm assuming it either hurts or itches...? If it's a yeast infection, you'll need an antifungal like the PP said to rid the infection. The A&D won't help if it's yeast (nor the aquaphor) and could actually be helping "breed" the fungus. If it's not yeast and it's just a straight diaper rash, you'll need something with zinc oxide in it to clear it and clear it quickly. My personal favorite is Triple Paste (not the cream but the paste). It's expensive but worth it as it clears overnight. I've heard Butt Paste works well too but I hate the smell of it and it's not as think as the TP.
For what it's worth, I was a NICU nurse so diaper rashes are my forte, pathetically If you want to see what a fungal rash looks like to compare, you can always google it for an image (it's usually kind of bumpy).
