Fit Mom Friday 9/22

It feels weird to start this because I'm not fit but I work out lol.

-What is is your typical routine?
-Have you been able to keep up with your workout routine? Have you had to alter it all?
-Have you found it helps your morning sickness or does it make it worse?

3 mile run and pure barre almost daily. I need to get a gym membership because it's still SO HOT here.

-Have you been able to keep up with your workout routine? Have you had to alter it all?
Some days. It's been too hot to run and I am so tired I can't function.

-Have you found it helps your morning sickness or does it make it worse?
definitely helps when I push myself to get it done. I don't have morning sickness but I do feel better when I work out.

Yoga on my own twice a week and walk/runs 4x a week. I'm not fit at all, but I like to be active. I'm still trying to settle in to my new town, and I'd love to find a studio or some class to join, so maybe this pregnancy will motivate me to do that finally. I was thinking of starting karate because my 80 year-old former professor is always on about it and how it keeps her young and she's a total inspiration to me, but thinking I may wait nine months or so now. :D

    I do OrangeTheory Fitness
-Have you been able to keep up with your workout routine? Have you had to alter it all
been able to keep it up so far! My knees have been really sore- don’t know if that’s the extra flexy hormones going or what
-Have you found it helps your morning sickness or does it make it worse?
when I’m doing the cardio I feel better but when my HR slows back down, the barfyness comes back. Even when I’m deadass tired, I get a little surge of energy so that helps
  • @ChasingTheDog my knees have been sore too!! Thought it was just too much running. I wonder if it's connected to the lil one.

  • -What is is your typical routine? Running three times a week and yoga on the other days

-Have you been able to keep up with your workout routine? Have you had to alter it all?  Bahahahaha ha.... no. I've only run once in the last week. My HG is getting worse and naps have been winning out over workouts lately.

-Have you found it helps your morning sickness or does it make it worse? I don't think it affects it.
  • I've been put on pelvic rest until my first appointment. I'm not going until October 13th.

Typical Routine: I've been running 2-3 times a week to train for a 5k. My 5k is next week, so it looks like no race for me.

Not going to be able to keep up with it for the next 3 weeks, but my goal is to eat healthy to make up for it.

  • Typically I run- I ran my first marathon in March and (was) training for a half..... I thought I was going to be one of those adorable preggos that runs their way into labor- NOT! I've had a rough go with morning sickness- that gets steadily worse as the day goes on.

I haven't run in two weeks. Maybe if I could get myself out there it would help but I haven't even been up to walking much less running. It suuuuucks. My goal is to be able to go for a walk- baby steps!
  • What is your typical routine?

I lift weights 6 days a week and yoga 3-4 days a week.

Have you been able to keep up with your workout routine? Have you had to alter it all?

Yes, so far. Last pregnancy I had morning sickness and was completely exhausted starting around 6 weeks through the first trimester, so I was unable to make it to the gym during that time. So far with this pregnancy I am having no symptoms, but it's only week 5. Last pregnancy I was able to keep up with my gym routine and able to lift almost 100% of the same weights prior to getting pregnant. I actually did leg day AND hiked a mountain 2 days before giving birth to my son. I plan to do the same with this pregnancy.

Have you found it helps your morning sickness or does it make it worse?

If I'm having morning sickness, then I skip the gym. Otherwise going to the gym helps my pregnancy symptoms and gives me more energy.

  • @k5678 I was in a similar training situation when I was pregnant with DS. Running in the first tri was hard, but second tri and half of third tri was great!

  •  What is your typical routine?

I do OrangeTheory Fitness 2-3 times a week and run 2 times a week

-Have you been able to keep up with your workout routine? Have you had to alter it all?
Still doing all the same things but finding it harder. @ChasingTheDog have you found it harder to last in the orange zone? I used to be able to get up to 90 and maintain that without a problem, now I have found when I hit 87 I really start to struggle. Interesting my recovery as soon as I drop to base I pretty quick.

-Have you found it helps your morning sickness or does it make it worse?

I haven't had MS for the last week (fx that it stays that way)

@sharkmama39 -Im not sure... I thought my HR was flying up way fast but the last 2 workouts seemed to be tough getting it up. I don’t know if you went today but today was a run-to-row and it was tough keeping my HR up.
  • I went and got a gym membership today. I figured if I can't get out in the heat, I can at least get on the treadmill!
  • @ChasingTheDog I actually usually go on Fridays but my schedule got thrown off when I hurt my neck Tuesday night. I ended up going Thursday instead of Wednesday and I don't like OTF on back to back days. Knowing it was a run row, I'm glad I didn't lol.

  • -What is is your typical routine? I workout with a trainer 3 days a week, yoga twice a week, and row once a week.
-Have you been able to keep up with your workout routine? Have you had to alter it all? I've been able to complete 3/4 of these workouts. I'm working out at work, so I'm trying to not tip off any my coworkers why I can't workout as much.
-Have you found it helps your morning sickness or does it make it worse? Doesn't affect my morning sickness. But it's good for my psyche to workout. I know the road of recovery after having a baby. And I'm now 8 years older than the last time I did this... oy vey!
  • I have been on pelvic rest but went ahead and started swimming, cuz, that's mostly gliding, rightttttt.  Anyhow, feels good to do something.  My hair isn't loving it but my body is.
  • Before the BFP, I was going to the gym a couple of times a week and doing a class (yoga, barre, whatever was going on). Since the bfp, I've been doing a water fitness class twice a week. I'm the youngest person in the class and the most fit. I'm hoping I'll be able to stick with it till May.

I've also been making sure to stand during calls at work.
  • 1) I, like @fraufarbissina , workout just enough to say I do. But I'm also a teacher who performs regular laps around her room dozens and dozens of times a day so I'm pretty active regularly. I try to go to the gym at least 3 times a week for weights and actual cardio and take the dog on walks multiple times a week on off days as well. Again, just enough to say I do.

    2) I downloaded a few prenatal workout apps to help me know what is safe to do or not as I like to do strength training from youtube Blogilates videos. It helps me feel more relaxed about it but my doc said as long as I avoid laying on my back too much I should be okay.

    3) It goes both ways for me. This morning I was nauseous before I got there but felt a lot better and even hungry afterwards. Somedays I barely make it through a few minutes on the bike before I have to stop.

  • @nanifrog I want to try water fitness. I have to check to see if my gym has it. Do you actually feel like it is a workout?>
  • @nanifrog is there a reason you had to change up your routine? If you don't like water, why stick it out until May? Plenty of yoga classes and other gym activities are safe in pregnancy..
  • @justsuzie, it's not super intense, but there are definitely times I feel my muscles start to burn.

@hollieileen, since I wasn't doing a single type of workout, I've been worried it would be too intense. Also, I had spd in my last pregnancy so I don't want to do something that would be too much and aggravate it. I'd like hi get dealt used to this routine so that I can stick with it longer.

I've been alternatating lifting and cardio, an exercise every other day. I recently lost about 40 pounds, and I've been doing IIFYM. I'm nervous about gaining it all back, so I'm keeping up with IIFYM during this pregnancy with some modifications.
Pretty much anything makes me tired or sick. *sigh*
