LH surge

Is it possible to stop the LH surge? I started stimms on Monday, Thursday I had first us which showed 4 measurable folicles ( 12-7mm) and my nurse was thrilled, she said this is my best cycle yet. Today I had my second us after 5 days of stimms, and they called me telling me to get the ganirelix shot right away because my LH was 22. Of course they called me at 2:30PM although usually they call around 11 in the weekends...
Anyway, is it possible for the ganirelix to stop the surge? Or should I start to BD just to be sure? My next us is on Monday...

    @marioana99
I had the same thing on Friday at my US after 5 days of stims and they shot me with Ganirelix in the clinic and I also have to wait until Monday to see if it worked in time.

As I understand it, the Ganirelix is given in order block the action of GnRH on the pituitary gland so it very fast stops/lowers the production of LH (and FSH - but that should have been provided for in your stims anyhow). If I understand right they call it the antagonist as it blocks the pituitary directly from making the LH.

On the other hand Lupron used in the agonist protocol blocks it indirectly by causing overstimulation which causes the temporary shut down of production of more LH.

I don't think there's a faster way to stop the LH surge than having the Ganirelix injection though.

Hope you managed to take it soon after you got the call.

But I'm not a doctor and could have got my knickers in a twist here!

@marioann99 sorry - two questions as I find myself in a similar position

You seem to have Od early a few times - have they increased monitoring in the first days for you or thought about starting the Ganirelix already on day 3/4?

With the Estrogen and testosterone priming in some of your earlier cycles they seemed to have that better under control? But did they think it adversely affected quality?

For me testosterone priming definetly affected numbers as it was the worse cycle ever. The estrogen priming was weird, it was supposed to help with quality but for me it gave more folicles but most of them were empty. I talked to my RE about it and we theorized that 10000 HCG for trigger it might have been too little to mature the eggs so since then we increases it to 15000.
My 2 cycles where I ovulated early were a different protocol (Sher) and that one requires a week of estrogen after AF and before the stimms start. That got me to day 18-19 of the cycle when folicles were big enough and ganirelix couldn't stop the surge anymore. Now I am only on day 9 of the cycle and I never had this issue so early, but I also never reacted so quickly to the stimms. I guess we will see tomorrow if the surge was stopped or not...

I'm not doing my IVF cycle yet (still fighting insurance on that one) but I'm continuing with IUIs while I work it all out...

Last cycle I went in for monitoring on CD 7 and was already starting to surge with an 18 mm follicle in the lead. My RE wanted me to start Orgalutran that night and come back in two days, but because the timing got messed up, DH was out of town anyway and I cancelled. This cycle, I went in on CD 8 and had a 15, two 12, and three 11 mm follicles and my RE put me back on the Orgalutran right away while he increased my Gonal F. The nurse told me that the Orgalutran should be started when follicle size is no bigger than 12 mm to give it time to work, although it doesn't appear that my RE agrees with that statement since he didn't see the need to start monitoring me earlier or start ovulation suppression earlier and thinks I'll be fine starting when I did.

    I'm BDing anyway...

marioana99 hey lady congrats on getting started again!!  Its great that you're responding quickly thats great, one cycle I was ready go after 9 days of stemming...doing the BD couldn't hurt but hopefully you took your meds and it was able to keep you at bay for a few more days.  Some cycles I had to start the cetritide to stop OV and keep my larger follie at bay on like day 6 or 7 instead of the normal 10/11...each cycle is different.  Hope you get good news tomorrow.

@Hopeful_mom  yes, good news here! I didn't ovulate and my follicles are between 12 and 16 mm today. I didn't got the bloodwork back yet, but I guess my LH is  down now after 2 days of ganirelix. They want me back tomorrow for another us so we will see, but I suspect I won't be triggering sooner than Wednesday.

I did the trigger last night, ER scheduled for tomorrow morning. Since this morning I started felling these sharp pains in the ovaries. I don't remember if I had them before, but with my last cycles being canceled due to early ovulation I think I am a little paranoid. Are these pains normal?

@marioana99 I also had sharp pains from 12 hours after trigger right up to my retrieval and also panicked that it meant I'd Od but actually I hadn't
The night before my ER it woke me up every hour or so.
So I guess it's not necessarily bad

Just got the report, from 6 eggs "they were able to inject 3, and one fertilized". The fact that I am disappointed it's an understatement. But hopefully that one will survive. Anyone knows what would be the reason they couldn't inject an egg?

According to today's report my embryo is still growing. Slowly, because they told me it might stop growing, but until then we are scheduled for tomorrow at 1PM for transfer.

@marioana99 so glad they are going to transfer you tomorrow!

@emmasemm yes, tomorrow it will be 3 days

@dragonette505 I hope I can make it to the transfer, they told me to keep my phone close just in case they call me to tell me it stopped growing. So they weren't super optimistic. But we will see...
