Fit Mom Friday Check In 9/22

All right bad ass mamas, it's been awhile, how are we doing?

How were your workouts this week?
Nonexistent. Had some bleeding last week and was put on big time rest all week, which worked out because I've been ridiculously exhausted and feeling crummy. Sunday I start back with yoga and hopefully bringing back other workouts, too!

What modifications, if any?
None needed :(

Any questions to pose to the group?
This is the first pregnancy I've spotted or bled and am trying to manage my panic. Does anyone else spot after tough workouts? I feel like the pressure on the uterus is unavoidable and as long as it's minimal, should be okay? Also don't want to do anything unnecessarily dumb.

GTKY: If you could take a week-long vacation right now, where would you go and what would you do?
Considering my current level of energy, I'd have to say any warm beach where I can read and nap all day.

How were your workouts this week?
Good, recovered from a major soreness from a good leg day saturday.  Did 3 others workouts and felt really good otherwise. My half marathon is next weekend, and well lets just say I won't be breaking any records with it.

    What modifications, if any?
None yet, just doing what feels good.

Any questions to pose to the group?
Anyone following a specific workout right now?  Always looking for inspiration!

I'd go down with DD to my brothers.  We're lucky to see them once a year and a week with them and my nieces sounds perfect!

How were your workouts this week?
Better in the last couple weeks, but I was too dizzy this week to do much.

    What modifications, if any?
I've started to do planks or hands and knees instead of lying on my belly in yoga.

Any questions to pose to the group?
Not right now. @jackiej9673 I checked all my workouts with my doctor and he said that no impact to the area, otherwise anything I've been doing is fine. You might ask next time you go in, just to be safe.

GTKY: If you could take a week-long vacation right now, where would you go and what would you do?
I would probably just sleep and nap, but in a really nice place :#

How were your workouts this week?
Non existent here. I've been exhausted for the last few weeks, and haven't done any workouts. I'm hoping to ease back into working out next week, but I'll need to make sure I start slow. We're camping this weekend and I'm hoping to do a couple hikes.

    What modifications, if any?
    N/A

Any questions to pose to the group?
None. @jackiej9673 It would be worth asking your doctor. When I was pregnant with DS I tried running throughout my pregnancy, but my body had other plans. I never spotted after running, but would get pretty crampy during my runs. It didn't feel right to me, so I stopped running.

GTKY: If you could take a week-long vacation right now, where would you go and what would you do?
There are so many places in Europe I want to check out. I'd just walk around, check out museums, eat pastries, and nap.

@ekendall09  I am just blown away you are running a half marathon, that is super inspiring!

@jackiej9673  I'm so sorry about the bleeding, that's a complete mind f**k! Hoping your doctor can give you some good insights on how to stay active and safe. I think your instinct not to push it is right on, but not necessarily easy!

@irenejean  oh where are you guys camping? Hopefully somewhere fabulous with temperate weather!

    How were your workouts
Im coming to the end of a ten day trip to Japan and Bhutan. Every day we've been walking between 5-8 miles. In Tokyo, I also added some yoga as the hotel had an incredible studio with a city view. Here in Bhutan, we are at quite high an elevation with strong hikes. I've been happy to be able to keep up with my husband and our guide. Tomorrow we will be walking for 6 hours to see the Tigers Nest monastery and a few others as well.

    Modifications
i try not to let my heart race too much on our ascents so I have the boys slow down for me if it's too hard.

    Questions for the group
do you guys find your energy cycling in your workouts? I find some moments really tough going and suddenly I'm ok and can climb easily.

GTKY: where would you take a weeklong vacation? Well since I'm on vacation right now, hard to say! It's been a great trip but food has been hard at times. Maybe somewhere in the alps so I can enjoy great food and still hike? Now I feel like a vacation glutton!

Hey fit moms! Keep up the good work

I am used to making Kale green smoothies in the morning. Are any of you using protein powder still? There seems to be a lot of conflicting info on the Internet. Are you using any specific types or brands?

    Thanks in advance!

@shireeallason I have a protein shake at breakfast every day, pretty much. What is the conflicting info about? The mayo clinic just says its fine but don't give it to infants instead of milk or formula. My impression was that it is most important to get an adequate amount of protein.

How were your workouts this week?

improved...i actually have done 4 this week. Thinking of squeezing a 5th in tomorrow. I'm getting closer to my 6x a week i did prior to pregnancy.

    Modifications:

I had to lessen my intensity so much due to lower back and hip pain.  :'( I'm only able to so a few maternity workouts on beachbody on demand without killing myself. I miss lifting heavy.

    No questions.

    Gtky:

Oh Lord...a lazy beach week does sound amazing. I mean as lazy as it could be w a 2 and 4yo that is.

How were your workouts this week? I made it to crossfit 4/5 days. Missed today due to mountains of bloodwork.
Modifications: I am trying to watch my heart rate and not lift as heavy. I have opted out of the hip extensions on the machine just because it puts so much pressure on the belly.
Questions: Because I miss racing my bike(BMX) ....I still mountain bike 10 miles to crossfit, I'd like to add in some other workout. I was thinking about prenatal yoga? Anyone have any real thoughts on this....too easy? boring? good overall workout? I'd love to hear feedback.
GTKY: I watched American Assassin last night and I've got say that the beach in Ibiza looked amazing....minus the violence. Or just a nice relaxing place somewhere.....

@ekendall09 GOOD LUCK on your half!! I'm so jealous of your endurance! I've just been taking Y classes, but a few people weeks back suggested Jillian Michael's Yeah Baby circuit workouts. The book itself was a little (way) too hard core for my taste, but I copied the circuits and they seemed pretty good.

Color me jealous!! We went to France when I was 15 weeks last pregnancy and I had similar peaks and spikes in energy. I ended up pushing it way too much because I felt good and threw my back out the week we got home! Yoga sounds like a good balance to the hikes!

What kind of shake do you use? As a lazy pescatarian (only eat fish for meat) who hasn't been feeling fish lately, I definitely don't get enough protein. But the thought of my previous healthy versions make my stomach churn...

You're such a boss! As someone who never did yoga before (more cardio and sport-based workouts), I started prenatal yoga thinking I'd get some stretching and relaxation in. I don't know how most places are, but my instructor is killing me!  :D We do deep squats and stretches that push me a lot harder than I thought would happen in prenatal. But I've loved the challenge and feel like it'll prepare for a hopeful VBAC. And the last 10 minutes are just laying on your back and meditating... hear that!

Thanks for the thoughts on the spotting everyone... I hate to take it too easy, but sounds like stretching and walking might be best for now until I can get an official clear! I'll keep living vicariously through you all this week!

I like to do 1 yogurt, 1 scoop of chocolate protein and greens (vega brand), 1 tbsp of PB2 (powdered peanut butter), ice, and 1 cup of Almond milk. To me it tastes kind of like a Wendy's frosty so I can handle it :D

Thanks @sarahkate2233! I usually use a whey based protein powder, but the Mayo Clinic seemed  wishy washy based on limited scientific studies.

    my smoothie:
    protein powder
    Flax seed
    Unsweetened almond milk
    fat free plain Greek yougurt
    frozen kale
    frozen blueberries
local honey (this has dramatically helped my allergies)

ekendall09, good luck with your half! So exciting! I wish mine was sooner.

stalkinghorse, I definitely notice my energy ebbs and flows during runs.

bmxerbaby, I am enjoying prenatal yoga. It's great for mental health and active physical recovery. That said, it doesn't feel like a workout. I think it is keeping my muscles happy for running.

    Workouts:
This week went well. I got my 10.5 mile long run in Sunday, as well as a 4.5 miler, and a 5k. I have a 5k race tomorrow, so I'll do a 4 mile run Sunday instead of my usual long run. On non-running days, I've gotten in pre-natal yoga every day.

Modifications: I'm not able to recover from running and back into strength, so my previously super intense regimine is now running and yoga instead. I'm also running slower. I have a half marathon in 8 weeks, and as of right now I feel like I'll be able to, but anything can happen in 8 weeks so I'm trying not to get my hopes up.

GTKY: I'd love to do a NZ/AUS trip with DH.

Edited - because autocorrect makes life harder.

@okayrunner I honestly just haven't trained like I needed to.  It'll be no fun but my friend wanted to do it and I sad yes.  I just haven't been able to really enjoy running in a long time.  It used to be the only thing I enjoyed.  Hopefully your training will keep going well!  Sounds like you have a good regimen in place to do well!

@stalkinghorse We're going to a state park that's located in the desert. It snowed at our house last night, so relatively speaking, the weather where we're camping will be pretty great at highs of mid 60s and lows of mid 40s. Slightly worried about the cold with DS only being 2, but we're going to try it. We're going here, and I think DS is going to love it: https://utah.com/goblin-valley-state-park

@irenejean I love goblin valley! I grew up in Utah and went there a ton as a kid. I'm amazing for kiddos. Check out wild horse canyon if you want to hike some slot canyons. So pretty!

How were your workouts this week?
OK. I had interfering appointments on both my Barre days so I didn't get those in. I did however get 5-6miles in every day this week except today. It was too blazing hot to even try.

    What modifications, if any?
    None

Any questions to pose to the group?
    No

GTKY: If you could take a week-long vacation right now, where would you go and what would you do?
Alaska to go whale watching and see the northern lights... Don't know that it's really whale season right now though. Might need a rain check.
