Working out..

I'm currently 34 weeks. What has you guys' workouts been looking like? I need to stay active to feel more upbeat and keep my restless legs at bay. I've been going on my elliptical 40 minutes a day but not sure if that's too much at this point. What kind of things are you guys doing that's safe?

Re: Working out..

  • As long as you can carry on a conversation while you work out, it isn't too much. General guidelines say not to start anything during pregnancy, but if you are already doing, than continuing is fine. If you have questions or concerns, talk to your OB.

  • I missed putting up last week's Fitness Friday posts. During the summer months where the sun rose early enough I was walking 3-3.5m every morning with the dog. When the days started to shorten, I switched to yoga 4-5 days a week, with hikes or long walks on the weekends. I wrenched my shoulder recently, though, so no yoga lately. I'm focusing on exercise band lower body workouts for now.
  • I've been too out of breath to do much cardio besides walking, but I am doing yoga 3 days a week and walking the other 2.
  • Part of my work commute is walking, so about 2 miles are built in to my day, but it's getting harder at 33 weeks in this heat. I'm also taking a weekly prenatal yoga class and hiking on the weekends (in the cooler hours) when I can. But I stopped my typical cardio/weights at the gym after the second trimester. I started feeling crappy afterward and didn't want to risk anything.
  • I started swelling around 4 months, so pretty much walking around my classroom. I had planned on walking for an hour a day around our lake and I just can't.
It's funny how it's the little things in life that mean the most...not where you live, or what you drive, or the price tag on your clothes... There's no dollar sign on a piece of mind, this I've come to know! *ZBB*

  • I think you'll know if the elliptical is too much. I was doing elliptical for 30-35 minutes a few days a week until the beginning of third trimester, but started having a lot of discomfort and Braxton Hicks during those workouts, so I stopped. I've found that yoga (with a prenatal trained instructor), swimming, and fairly slow walks are more my speed now.
