Re: 3rd Trimester Check-In Week September 18th

  • I can't believe I get to say I'm in the third trimester, but I'm finally here!

28 + 3 with one little boy due on 12/8. We were NTNP for about a year and TTC actively for 14 mos (incl 3 IUIs and clomid) with never even a hint of a BFP. Thankfully IVF worked on the first try and we are finally worrying about things like the nursery and when baby will arrive!

My pregnancy has felt like a breeze, although rib pain, heartburn, and insomnia have been a pain in the rear the last two weeks.

QOTW: no bag packed. I'm a mama/baby nurse and my colleagues and I get a kick out of all the Pinterest "what to pack" lists (a full diaper bag?!). Here's my advice to everyone: take everything the hospital gives you and ask for extras! (Diapers, pads, blankets, mesh undies, pump kits....)
    Me: 39 SO: 36

Dx: low progesterone, possible DOR - officially "unexplained"

    TTC#1 since November 2015
    9/16/2016 IUI#1 - BFN
    10/12/2016 IUI#2 - BFN
    1/21/2017 Clomid/IUI#3 - BFN
    March 2017 IVF: BFP! (beta#1 191, beta#2 378!) - it's a boy! DS born 12/6/2017

    TTC #2 since July 2018
    May 2019 IVF #2: BFP! (beta#1 346, beta#2 646) - vanishing twin at 8 weeks. Baby B still going strong - due 2/8/20!

  • Morning mamas! 34 weeks here, feeling good! Big, tired but good :)  my husband is cramming in work travel and dinners and my 4 year old is extra energetic so I've been out cold by 8:30 most nights.

QOTW not yet but I'd like to start soon. Comfy clothes, socks, toiletries, SNACKS (we had my daughter and the cafeteria was shut down so major life saver), camera, books/movies. I had an epidural so it was honestly 15 hours of just sitting in a bed, I'm glad I had some movies. Then this is random but "cute" hospital gown. I couldn't get dressed for 2 days and the hospital gowns made me flash everyone. I'm so glad a friend had given me a nicer gown, I'm looking at getting one this time in case I can't get dressed again, plus if/when it gets trashed you can just toss it. Then coming home outfit for baby, they provided the pjs and sleepsack while we were there :)
  • Hello! 31w3d over here with our little gal. Third tri has been a bit rough thanks to swelling, which has led to carpal tunnel, jaw pain, and super snazzy compression socks. Also, been noticing my BP has been increasing which worries me a bit. We have an at-home monitor and last night it read 160/95. Now, I am also suspicious that the monitor may not be super accurate, so I went to a pharmacy today and it read 142/84... which still isn't great, but better than the previous reading. Anyone else having BP spikes? I have an OB appt this Thurs so I plan on bringing it up then. I'm just worried that it means danger is imminent (I'm a worrier).

QOTW: No bags packed yet, but I think that we'll be doing that sometime this week!

  • 32+5 with our nugget, who is currently apparently stretching end to end from my ribs to my hips lol.  Last doctor's appointment was normal except that when I got there, my left ankle was roughly the size of a cantaloupe.  My right was swollen too, but nothing like my left, and that had never happened before, like it was so swollen it actually kind of hurt to move it.  The doctor was a little concerned since this was a new thing for me, but my bp was normal (110 over 70, I tend to run low) and I only had a minor headache, so she sent me home on strict orders to drink lots of water and put my feet up high until the swelling went down (which it eventually did).  It came back a little the next day, but thankfully nowhere near as bad as Friday afternoon.  Just a serious WTF moment.

Other than that, just cruising now.

QOTW: DH has been on me to do this, but I just haven't had the time!  I do want to pack one, though, especially things like a phone charger, charger for my Kindles, etc. Then obviously some clothes (for all three of us, LOL), snacks, that kind of stuff.  I'm not going to go totally crazy, but I know I get very wiggy in hospitals, so a few little things to make me more comfortable, especially when family comes, will go a long way.
  • I'm 29.5 with my little guy! Have been having some hip pain when I wake up in the morning, and a few times it felt like someone kicked me in the vagina when I woke up (sorry if that's tmi). I am guessing this is all normal because of the stretching that is happening down there in preparation. It's still weird though.

QOTW: Don't have a bag packed yet, but been thinking about what I want to put into one. Books and movies are a great idea! I will probably download a few audio books to take because I have a feeling I will not be able to concentrate on reading. I love listening to audiobooks though. Definitely going to bring my robe and a comfy pair of slippers as well. Adding snacks to the list now, too!

  • Happy Happy Monday ladies! I hope all is well with all you lovely ladies this week :)

@srh18 Congrats again mama, we can't wait to hear another update from you on those wonderful boys!

@LeFemmeViolette Sorry to hear you're having so much trouble with swelling and your BP. I hope your Dr can help ease your worry when you go in on Thursday.

@PoeMasque Welcome! I will get you added. Love the tips on the hospital bag!

AFM: Checking in 34+4 with a little girl. Nothing new this week, still my constant heartburn. Next appointment is 9/28 then we will be heading in weekly til delivery. WOW! I still can't believe we're this close :)

QOTW: I love the tips on the snacks and movies, I hadn't thought of that. I got a good idea of the basics from our birthing class but I love hearing you ladies' ideas if you have already given birth!!

  • @LeFemmeViolette They will keep a close eye on you and your BP. 37 weeks is term and the survivability of babies after 32 weeks is excellent. Sorry for all the added stress.

  • @LeFemmeViolette I second what @wabash15 says, you will get extra monitoring and a diagnosis of hypertension is not the same as a diagnosis of preeclampsia. 37 weeks is not considered premature, in fact, most babies that I've seen born 32 weeks and later have zero issues and often spend less than 48 hours in the NICU. I'm a little biased though since I work with families once they're home from the NICU.

  • @PoeMasque Welcome to 3rd tri!

@LeFemmeViolette I'm sorry about the diagnosis but echo what the other ladies have said about being able to make it to 37/38 weeks. Just do lots of relaxation exercises if you can. Have you considered prenatal yoga? Might help keep things as calm as possible for you.

@Joslynj11 Yep,graduating to weekly appointments is a huge step. So exciting!

AFM, 38+5 today with my little lady. I was shocked to see my name at the top of the list this week. Holy crap....this is really happening! I had my 39 week appt today and had my first internal check. I'm at 1 cm dilated, 75% effaced, and her head is well engaged in my pelvis. The lack of dilation is a bit disappointing given how much pressure I've been feeling since Saturday, but the other measures were reassuring. I'm also down a pound from last week, which I thought was interesting.

QOTW: we have our hospital bag list put together and will have the bag packed this week. I'm going to keep it pretty basic since I fully plan to take advantage of the hospital gowns, slipper/socks, pads, and mesh panties galore provided by the hospital. A couple extras I've been told are helpful, though, are: good pillow and blanket for DH, a labor playlist, nipple cream, lightweight robe, towel from home for showers, and baby book for keepsake footprints.

  • Thanks for the kind words. My dr called this morning and based on my protein levels in urine, she did diagnose me with preeclampsia. I'm really scared. My appts have been bumped up to twice weekly (to check baby via ultrasound and check my blood for organ function). And while yesterday she said it would be good to induce at 37/38 weeks, today she said depending on how things progress, I may have to deliver sooner than that.

Apparently having conceived via IVF puts you at more of a risk of pre-e.

Really scared over here. I just want us to be ok.

  • @LeFemmeViolette aw hugs!! I have multiple friends who had pre-e, both have 3 healthy kids! They'll monitor you and baby and will take the best care of you ❤️ Both of my friends had notes to their work to work from home to elevate legs and relax to help BP and swelling, so hopefully your doctor does the same so you can relax a bit! ❤️ Keep us posted
  • @LeFemmeViolette hugs. Its totally understandable to be scared. Take good care of yourself and they will watch you super close. I pray you and your little girl will come through this with flying colors. It might be nice to squeeze in a date night with DH soon in case your little one needs to come sooner rather than later.

  • @LeFemmeViolette Sorry to hear this! I am glad that they are monitoring you so closely. My friend's mom had preeclampsia that went undiagnosed through her entire pregnancy. It was never diagnosed until she was in the delivery room. She said her doctor was not very thorough and he just never caught/noticed it. But despite never getting the extra monitoring and care she should have gotten, everything turned out okay in the end and she delivered a healthy baby. I hope this anecdote is a little reassuring!
Take good care of yourself in the meantime and try to reduce your stress as much as possible because stress plays a large role in BP. I have a hard time relaxing myself, but guided meditation and simple yoga poses help me a lot. There are lots of great guided meditations (even some especially for pregnant women) on Youtube if that's something that interests you.<3
