This could all change come May, but out of all our names for if baby is a boy, Leo is my favorite.
I know it is a stand alone name, but it does feel super short to me. I don't care for any of the more obvious longer names that could use Leo for a nickname, though.
Another name on our list in Leland, after my grandfather. What do you think of Leo as a nickname for Leland? He went by Lee, so I'd like to use a different nickname to distinguish them.
I adore the name Leo. Leland is nice too. Although I would never think of Leo as being a nn for Leland, I wouldn't side eye it if I came across a Leland who went by Leo. To me it's close enough.

I prefer Leland. Leo has been "done" so much. Leland sounds fresh in the way Walter, Alden, and other grandfatherly names do these days. But Leland is one I haven't heard. Use it.
Leo isn't a nickname that I would have thought to use with Leland, but it definitely works. And nicknames don't have to 100% follow the given name anyway, so you have some wiggle room. Go for it.
