Symptoms of Preeclampsia but results fine?? Opinions appreciated!

Hi ladies.
So I'm a type 1 diabetic for about 14 years now, and water retention is common with me and I understand preeclampsia is common in diabetics as well.
Anyway I would appreciate some help from some mommies who maybe dealt with swelling and preeclampsia.

In a day and a half I have gained 11 pounds of water which ISN'T normal. I also have a tough time breathing (I walk a flight of stairs and can't catch my breath) and I practically cry trying to move my legs.
I called in and seen my doctor today and he waa super worried and sent me in to L&D for blood work and urine to test for preeclampsia. Guess it all came out perfectly fine and also told my my bp was fine, meanwhile it was in the high 130s and 140s at home as well as twice 140/90 when the obgyn checked me out.  and I'm in no way relieved. There has to be a reason why this is happening. I'm just trying to get answers.

Did anyone deal with something similar or know what tests I can request. I suspect I may have fluid in my lungs due to do much swelling, and I have all the typical preeclampsia symptoms like dull headaches, nausea, terrible lower back pain.   Sorry this is so long. I'm 34w2d and just going nuts.

Thanks!!

  • Dont have any experience unfortunately... Just wishing you feel better soon!
  • I can't give any medical advice to your situation, and i haven't experienced anything like this. But if you're not satisfied with what they told you, don't back down! demand to be seen again, and tested again and again until they are SURE this isn't preeclampsia. I would assume that not every test is accurate and doctors make mistakes sometimes. Make sure you're sharing with your doctors what your sharing with us (Home B/P levels etc). Good luck, and i hope you feel better soon.

  • How scary for you!  I was terrified last week I because I had a preeclampsia scare.  They drew blood and urine.  Dr says as long as urine comes and blood comes back clean then I am good. As he is the same dr that I have seen for all of my pregnancies and this is my first scare ever I trust that he knows what he is doing.  He is having me monitor my blood pressure daily.

You can ask for a 24 hour urine test your protein levels. Are you itchy? Have your doc check for bike salts.

Has it it been hot? Are your stressed? On your feet a lot? That can cause sudden swelling as well. Consider taking a sick day and put yourself on modified bed rest. Sometimes just a day of elevated feet, lots of water, and rest can make a difference.

Hope you you feel better soon!

  • Thanks for the responses, ladies! I went back to my doctor and I put my complete trust in him and he's great so I went back for more tests at L&D. Once again blood and urine results good,  and also did a 24 hr collection, also great. It's just so frustrating to be honest. I feel like maybe everything is ok but I'm going crazy! I don't work at the moment, so I try to stay off my feet as well.
My doctor also requested a Ct scan done with the dye, and I know the risks and at this point the benefits outweighed them. I know 3rd trimester is also safest time to.do these tests. Had a CT done. No clots in lungs, but some fluid retention. Although the ER doctor told me it's not enough to cause my shortness of breath. (I run out of breath just trying to switch positions in bed haha)

Get to see my doctor again Thursday. It's just ridiculous how all blood and urine comes out fine, but I keep getting all these symptoms. This child is already stressing me out lol
