TTGP Grad Check-In Sep 11

Hey there TTGPers! How are things going? Let's do a casual check in, but if questions/structure help you, then here are the usual to use as guidelines:
How far along are you?
How are you feeling?
Any recent/upcoming appointments?

  • @kmalls When do you get your Panorama results?
@cards10 Yay for a good U/S! I also didn't get nausea, but my stomach just hurt basically all day, and I felt washed out and overall bad. Hopefully you start feeling better soon!

  • @hedgepig the phlebotomist sad 5-10 business days for the results, so 1-2 weeks. Last time it took 2 weeks exactly so I'm going to assume that for this time as well.
  • Wait also can we eat hot dogs? Cause now I want one.
  • Who are these people eating cold/raw hotdogs?? I rather die.
  • Who are these people eating cold/raw hotdogs?? I rather die.
Good question. My guess would be the type of people like the women who was asking about TTC grants for her and her "finance" David.

    Grants? WTAF?

Also, thought of raw hotdogs just made me so nauseated.

  • @fishsticks-n-custard I'm pretty sure the BGs deleted the thread, but yeah there was super speshul lady who posted a thread in TTGP asking if there were any grants available for TTC. After pages and pages of gifs and hilarious back-and-forth she said that she and her "finance" David lived in different states, so she wanted a grant to help pay for a sperm donor. It was priceless.

    Best drive-by thread ever  :D
  • @lund I'm pretty sure, you know, a plane ticket, would be cheaper than donor sperm. Plus I'm so sad I missed this!

@saralee797-2 good to know you saw your baby moving at 10w. Hopefully we will see some wiggling at our next appt at 12w, but not too much bc it's for the nuchal test (is that what NT is that I'm seeing?). Last time with DS, we saw him moving at 9w so I figured we were a little early this time. Dr didn't seem worried at all.

And about hot dogs... I forgot they were on the "no" list. Something to do with nitrates? Idk, but my Dr never put too much concern into those. Probably falls within the "anything in moderation" mentality. Just don't eat like a hundred in a week and like others have said, make sure they're cooked.

And apparently I missed a fun thread in TTGP lol

@saralee797-2@lund I agree with @cards10 that it's also about avoiding nitrates, but there are plenty of hot dogs and sausages without added nitrates these days, so I've been having at it. Also, my brother's old roommate totally ate cold hot dogs. All. The. Time.

@hedgepig @cards10 @saralee797-2  well most conventional hot dogs, brats, sausages, bacon, lunch meats, etc have nitrates in them. So, it's not just limited to hot dogs. There does seem to be some link between maternal nitrate consumption and the occurrence of childhood cancer in offspring. While research "suggests that exposure during gestation to endogenously formed nitroso compounds may be associated with tumor occurrence. Laboratory exploration is needed to: (a) define dietary sources of exposure to alkylamides; (b) investigate the reactivity of nitrite in high concentration such as around bits of cured meats in the stomach after ingestion compared to nitrite in dilute solution; and (c) confirm that simultaneous ingestion of alkylamides and cured meats leads to the endogenous formation of nitrosamides."

I agree that sticking with nitrate-free is likely the best way to go. I just wish I had easier access to the nitrate free products! Living in a small rural town definitely has it's downsides.

@lund Thanks for the science share! I generally try to stay away from nitrates, but am not super careful about it. I guess the upside of living in hippie NorCal is that even our crummy rural grocery store has nitrate free/organic/free range hot dogs ;)

  • @stalkinghorse Your doc sounds so nice!! I wish mine was a little softer and gave out hugs!
  • @mispanda I am taking my last PIO on Saturday and I feel the same way. I am hoping to get more energy though! Sorry about your headaches. I agree about Tylenol :/
  • Re: sausage. Trader Joe's has delicious turkey corn dogs without added nitrates. They are super good!
  • @lund that cat is my spirit animal  :D
  • @stalkinghorse - I had a blood draw at my initial appointment at 7 weeks for an array of things, mostly diseases that can be passed on to baby.

The blood draw I had on Monday was just for the Panorama screening, which will tell me the likelihood of specific chromosomal abnormalities being present. Plus we'll find out the sex because I'm too impatient to wait any longer :D
  • I ate a ballpark hot dog and it was perfection!
