I have LADA,( latent autoimmune diabetes in adults) and have had 4 healthy pregnancies so far. I'm not on insulin yet, so I can't give advice in that regard. I try to keep my 2 hour postprandial numbers below 120. Pregnancy can push LADA diabetics into full on type 1 rather quickly, so I do everything I can to keep those numbers low and easy on the pancreas! Type 1 diabetics absolutely can have perfectly healthy babies! Fear not, you've got this!
Pre diabetic and was trying to figure things out before pregnancy. My fasting sugar is high, my 2 hour post meal always pretty good. Hopefully I can get & keep it controlled during pregnancy.
Anyonewas here have a hyperglycemic baby after birth previously? I'm going to try and avoid the NICU at all costs this time.
My DD2 had severe hypoglycemia. Her first reading was 17! It was fixed with a bottle of formula, and no NICU stay, although they monitored her very closely until we were discharged. I think it mostly depends on the hospital where you give birth and what their policies are. One thing I would suggest is to choose a pediatrician who has admiting privileges at the hospital where you will deliver. That way, your pediatrician, not the random doctor on the floor, makes the decisions regarding your baby's care. Also, while I am 100% pro breastfeeding and have breastfed four kids for an average of 2 years each, I am not at all adverse to using formula to stabilize a hypoglycemic baby. Of course, you need to do what you feel comfortable with.
@gildah my plan is to do formula asap too if it's the case. I didn't know it was an option to help the first two days and then my favorite nurse in the NICU suggested it and we were all able to go home together after my csection stay. I was so ashamed at first because of all the pressure to BF, but it's what got us out of the NICU before my milk came in. No shame now if we need it!
