Dads & Dads-to-be

Any dads/hopefully dads on here?!

My wife said she uses this site. Was wondering if any dads or potential dads use the site, whether just lurking or otherwise. My wife and I are trying to start a family, and while it is hard on my wife, it certainly isn't an easy ride for us men either! Would love to hear from others if they are around!

Re: Any dads/hopefully dads on here?!

  • Yes there is at least 1 dad to be on here im expecting my first, my girlfriend's second daughter in april :)
  • Hi!

My wife's expecting our 1st in August she's 6 weeks today... I know it's early days but I'm super excited.

If you're getting stressed bout trying then try and take it easy.... We tried for about a year casually then last 4 months she's proper read into it and we've "properly" tried to no luck.
Then the month we concieved we just took it easy and bingo! It's a strange old thing.....

    But good luck!

  • Good stuff! Yeah, the process is stressful. We recently switched specialists though, and I / we feel better about this one. The first one really wasn't all that careful, informative, or even that nice!

I agree mindset has a ton to do with it. But at the same time, it's hard to be in the right mind-set when everything seems so "clinical" and timed-out, planned, etc.

  • Yup, I get on from time to time to check this place out. It used to be more lively, but things on the internet change fast. I have 3 kids. A 4 year old boy and 1 year old identical twin girls. We've experienced an easy pregnancy and a challenging one. A pregnancy on the 1st try and having to try for over a year. It's a rough ride, but it sure is nice when things start to take shape. I usually check in about once a week or so since there's not much going on anymore.

  • Hello,

I know what you mean. The most stressful part of it all is the family asking all the time when your going to have kids. Me and my wife have just taken the it happens when it happens approach. She's currently 13 weeks pregnant and we plan to let everyone know on Christmas.
  • Hopefully your boys are plentiful and are able to swim. Good luck ; ] I worked in a radar system in the army so that was always a big concern for us.
  • @mtarango - Congrats, Now your family can sleep easy at night. Eventually they'll want to know when you'll be having your second though. Be ready for that!
  • @BDH122 - Way to let them know you mean business. I was one of the quiet ones when I had to give my sample.
  • Ya I'm sure that will happen but they are just going to have to be happy with what they get or start hounding her brother. Lol he'll be my escape goat whenever that question come up.

@bdh122 fair play to you for having the balls *ahem* to getting down there and giving them a sample.... I was on the cusp of giving a sample and bricking it but got lucky beforehand.

We've just seen the midwife and had a heap full of things to look at.... It's a step up from the pet beagle I look after
  • Haha. So true @gilby1989 but the "cause" is noble so I was happy to provide the sample. This is the second one I've had to do... we'll see if there are any more in the future. Everything came back normal and my swimmers are good to go... so we will see what happens this week!

Congrats to you! Yeah, our Cockapoo has been decent practice, but I have a feeling we are all in for a challenge!

Beagles rock I have two myself. Our boys are our first kids and I'm sure they will go crazy once the baby arrives. Thank god beagles are timid so I don't expect any issues

My beagle is timid just a bit energetic lol

@mtarango.... You say your wife is 13 weeks? Can I ask what symptoms shes had so far such as morning sickness and tiredness?

At the minute I don't know whether to contact a midwife or an exorcist
  • Our health insurance is about to renew... my company offers two plans: 1) High deductible and 2) over-priced monthly. Long run = good savings on the high deductible, but that means ALL of our infertility treatments are out of pocket until we hit $4600 deductible! Not sure what to do! Have to make a decision by Friday! $300+ a month towards the "regular" insurance, or out-of-pocket until we hit the $4600 in deductible (employer will cover some of the deductible though).

If the "baby making" is expensive, I can't even imagine the costs ahead!

    Sorry, random rant...

Can you switch which type of insurance you have each year? If so, add up the premium and expected expenses for this year under each plan and go with the cheapest. Do that every year. If you can't switch you'll have to do a similar approach with more years in mind.

We only have a high deductible at my work and infertility stuff doesn't even go towards the deductible. I think my sample went towards the deductible, but my wife had her tubes tested and we had to pay a grand out of pocket for that. Good luck, health costs really put a damper on the baby stuff now. My son cost $100 in 2011, my twins cost $15k in 2014. Hospital stayed went through 2 plan years so I got to pay my deductible twice.
  • Oh, they were $500k before insurance deductions. After deductions insurance paid $200k. I had to pay $15k. I can't complain too much. Health care is crazy.
