Just thought I would ask here... how often does your DC get sick, if they are in daycare? And is it usually really sick, or just a cold?
DS was in daycare for 5 days, and came down with a virus, pinkeye, and a double ear infection that all hit on Saturday. He's never had worse than a cold, but he's been home this year with me. I'm curious to know if this is bound to happen again soon.
Re: daycare and illness?
DS was in DC as an infant and got sick a lot. One cold after another, ear infections, etc. Nothing too serious, but it seemed like he would go to DC, get sick, have to be home for 2 - 3 days, get better, go back and get sick again. We pulled him out, so he has been cared for in our home ever since.
But this year he started preschool - just two mornings a week, and we are back in the cycle of almost constant colds. The good thing is, he is stronger than he was as an infant, so it's not as bad when he is sick. I know they have to go through it some time, and I'd rather it be now than when he is in Kindergarten, but it is a hassle. We are lucky that we don't always have to miss work when he is sick, but when he is really miserable I do stay home with him rather than his nanny, and I always am the one to take him to the doctor.
Plus I've gotten most of the crud he has picked up this year, so we go through a cycle of him being sick, then me, then by the time I am feeling better, he is sick again. Fun times.
Meanwhile, DH gets none of it - I don't understand it.
DS went to day care in Jan when he was 5.5 months old. He's had fairly constant runny noses, ear infections, RSV(2X), stomach bugs etc. Now we're dealing with canker sores. He got sick more between Jan and April (winter/spring) vs summer and fall/winter. I did notice that in the fall, he would get a runny nose (green/yellow) and it would go away in a week. I wasn't so busy with work in the fall so I would let him sleep in more and I think that helps too. Oh and in the beginning when he gets sick I would get sick too, my immunity has built up too. It's tough to be a working mom and have to take time off from work but I do think it's building his immunity,
It actually hasn't been as bad as I expected. I'm not sure how much of that is DD's immune system (DH and I both have pretty good immune systems & I BFed for 22 months) and how much of it is the fact that they are constantly washing hands at our daycare. Anyone who enters the room washes their hands, they wash (teachers and kids) after every diaper change, they wash before every meal and snack...I swear they must spend half the day washing their hands. :-)
DD had the sniffles/colds on and off for the first year. Beyond that, she had one eye cold, one ear infection and two short stomach bugs. We also had a case of thrush, but I don't think she picked that up at school.
I'm hoping that DC #2 has a similar immune system!
DS has been sick pretty much the entire time he has been in Daycare, he is in an inhome, so there aren't alot of kids, but the nose is almost always runny, he's had one ear infection, and a cough.
The colds I can deal with, but it slows his weight gain.

Sickness is a part of daycare, unfortunately. But hopefully, by the time they go to kindergarten, they will never get sick!
We have had colds, pink eye, lots of ear infections (he has tubes now), Roseola, hand foot and mouth, stomach viruses, fevers, and the list goes on.
She gets sick about once or twice a month. She almost always has a runny nose.
