Rants/Raves/Questions:

GTKY: What is the biggest splurge you would make on this kid/nursery/pregnancy if money was no problem?

Re: STM+ Check In 9-6

  • Remind us how many kids and their ages:
    MS is 2

How are you feeling? How are you keeping your kids busy while managing your symptoms?
Honestly between the sudden onset of constipation and the vomiting I feel pretty gross. Haha. MH had a long weekend so that helped with the whole managing a two year old but he's back to work so we will see. Yesterday we played with sidewalk chalk and paint in the kiddie pool on the back patio so I might try to do that again. I know he's been really bored with Mommy on the couch 24/7 the past few weeks. If I feel up to it we might go to the playground this morning since it's going to be in the 80's. The high for the day is still 100+ so we need to get going early.

    Rants/Raves/Questions:
I'm just annoyed that at my appointment last week the nurse and the front desk still don't have the same date. And while I get that it is an estimate, 5-8 days difference from mine is kind of a big deal at the end of this thing. I guess I'm just hoping that we can sort it out at my next appointment and/or the anatomy scan. I know that at the first couple of scans with MS he measured small but at my anatomy scan his due date was adjusted to one day off from mine. Anyone else have this issue? I was so out of it at my last appointment from vomiting that I didn't register the problem until the next day.

GTKY: What is the biggest splurge you would make on this kid/nursery/pregnancy if money was no problem?
I would buy a dresser/chest of drawers/nightstand set from Pottery Barn kids for 2.0. And I wouldn't hesitate to replace my Mountain Buggy single seat because we have rather beat the crap out of it between all of the flying and gate checking the past two years plus a Mountain Buggy Duet double. And I would set up a prenatal massage twice a month for the rest of this pregnancy at the place with the tables where you can still be facedown in your third trimester. Lastly I would plan one last vacation for us as a family of three around New Years and another vacation as a family of four around May.

    Boy-9, Girl 4

How are you feeling? How are you keeping your kids busy while managing your symptoms?
Starting to feel less nauseous and getting back some energy.

    Rants/Raves/Questions:
Both kids are at school today and it's weird to be by myself. But I am excited to run errands by myself.

GTKY: What is the biggest splurge you would make on this kid/nursery/pregnancy if money was no problem?
Honestly a new house. Ours is decent size but I hate the set up. I would bup the baby all new toys/stroller/swing/height chair/jumperoo... after going through 2 kids and two moves a lot of it is pretty beat up.

  • Remind us, how many kids and their ages:
DD is 5 and DS is 3
How are you feeling? How are you keeping your kids busy while managing your symptoms?
The nausea is more spread out now, which is great. But the urge to puke is stronger when I am nauseous. Headaches most days. Water sounds gross. And I'm more tired now than in the beginning. Thankfully DD started kindergarten so she gets a break but poor DS is watching a lot of TV.
  • Remind us, how many kids and their ages: DD1 is 2 years (turns 3 in Nov); DD2 is 10 months

How are you feeling? How are you keeping your kids busy while managing your symptoms? I feel crappy (see ticker change), but I have no choice but to power through. I work full-time (plus side jobs), and have 2 young ones. DH works full time as well, but he's been really good about coming straight home after work, helping me with the kids, getting them to bed, and then going back out to the gym (he used to go straight after work). It doesn't give us much alone time, but I go to bed so early lately it doesn't even matter.

    Rants/Raves/Questions:
I ranted about this in the ticker change thread, but hurricane Irma is potentially causing us to miss vacation next week. I'm so bummed.

GTKY: What is the biggest splurge you would make on this kid/nursery/pregnancy if money was no problem?
Oh, I'm so good at spending money! haha. I love @mdfarmchick's answer above. I would definitely do the prenatal massages regularly if money were no object. I am planning on giving this baby DD2's nursery furniture, but then would splurge and buy DD2 the gorgeous set I'm eyeing up (but is way too pricey).

  • Remind us, how many kids and their ages:
    DD - 6, DS - 2

How are you feeling? How are you keeping your kids busy while managing your symptoms?
I'm starting to not feel nauseous 24/7, but have food aversions that prevent me from eating.  I've been plowing through and might sit down for a few minutes here and there, but I'm by myself 6 days a week so I have no choice but to get things done.

    Rants/Raves/Questions:
We have had a trip booked for many months now to Disney, long before we found out about surprise #3.  While we wish everyone safety, we are really upset about Hurricane Irma and can't rebook due to no availability at Disney where we could still be in a travel window.  We haven't vacationed in several years now and don't plan on it for at least another few years.  I'm beyond bummed and since we passed on the puppy this was my thing I was looking forward to.  Now, I'm feeling really down.

GTKY: What is the biggest splurge you would make on this kid/nursery/pregnancy if money was no problem?
If I could would be a nice glider/rocker for the nursery.  I've never had one for either child.  Also, professional organizing for the basement to create storage/play/tot school spaces (I'm a teacher turned SAHM, can take the teacher of the class but not the teacher.
  • Remind us, how many kids and their ages:
    I have 3 - ages 11, 9 and 5

How are you feeling? How are you keeping your kids busy while managing your symptoms?
Feeling good overall.  The kids understand that the baby zaps all of my energy, so they've gotten used to me lounging on the couch in the evenings and weekends.  I hope my energy continues to rise and I'll be back to semi-normal soon.

    Rants/Raves/Questions:

GTKY: What is the biggest splurge you would make on this kid/nursery/pregnancy if money was no problem?
We would buy a bigger house with enough bedrooms so each kid could have their own room.

  • @mmom3 when were you supposed to leave? Are you definitely cancelling?
  • How many kids and their ages: DS1 is 6, DS2 is 4, and DS3 is 2.

How are you feeling? How are you keeping your kids busy while managing your symptoms?
I am feeling okay. It's hard to get going in the morning, but I still feel the same level of exhaustion of any other day haha. As sad as I am to see summer go, I am thankful for the boys to be back into a routine with school and activities.

    Rants/Raves/Questions:
This sounds silly, but I'm sad I don't have time to think about this pregnancy. With each one, I felt less invested (in terms of thinking and daydreaming about it). I get to the end of each day and think, "oh yeah. I forgot."

GTKY: What is the biggest splurge you would make on this kid/nursery/pregnancy if money was no problem?

I would build a bigger house so each kiddo could have their own room. Right now, we do have 4 rooms, but would like to keep one a guest room.

How are you feeling? How are you keeping your kids busy while managing your symptoms?
Well I'm back to school now, so daycare gets to keep my kid busy while I keep 100 teenagers busy. I think that's a fair compromise. Still pretty tired. I have an extra class than normal so am extra tired and have extra work/ grading. I'm ready for second tri!

    Rants/Raves/Questions:
Working on transitioning away from bottle. Open to tips. She's only getting cups of milk at daycare and I have no idea how much she's drinking so I'm hesitant to change morning and evening up yet.

  • Remind us, how many kids and their ages:
P is about to be 1 year old.  :'(

How are you feeling? How are you keeping your kids busy while managing your symptoms?
Nauseous/tired. P loves to just explore the house, so she does a lot of that while I lay somewhere that I can see her. We went to a playgroup today which was fun and getting out usually helps me feel better.

    Rants/Raves/Questions:
Why do people who make veggies trays put two slots of broccoli? I don't need two slots broccoli, no one does. I LIKE broccoli and I still don't want two slots of it. Give me two slots of sugar snap peas.

GTKY: What is the biggest splurge you would make on this kid/nursery/pregnancy if money was no problem?
A bigger house. Baby's nursery is itty bitty compared to my daughter's bedroom. We move a lot though so buying a house of any kind doesn't make sense right now.
  • Remind us, how many kids and their ages: 2 girls, 6 and 19m

How are you feeling? How are you keeping your kids busy while managing your symptoms? Tired, TV babysits them most days.

    Rants/Raves/Questions:
I feel bad that I haven't had energy to do anything fun with them lately, especially since DD1 went back to school last week, I feel like we wasted the whole summer. She said to me "I wish you were a fun Mommy that played with us" I'm just like, ok, so I suck...

GTKY: What is the biggest splurge you would make on this kid/nursery/pregnancy if money was no problem?
If money were no object we'd buy a bigger house. We live in a 3br duplex (15 years now) and my father moved in with us last summer, so we are definitely cramped in here

  • @LiveNLove44 I am in charge of a dinner at church on Friday so it is not fun experiences- it's picking out a cake, buying 50 lbs of pork butt, and getting veggies. And dropping a stupid slip off at the pediatrician saying that DD can have water instead of milk at preschool because apparently the state requires it if they don't want milk or a milk substitute.

How are you feeling? How are you keeping your kids busy while managing your symptoms? DD is in pre-k 2 days a week, and they are both in daycare while DH and I are at work. I work with hundreds of kids all day everyday, and a little part of me isn't sure which is more exhausting

GTKY: What is the biggest splurge you would make on this kid/nursery/pregnancy if money was no problem?
I have a really hard time spending more money on maternity clothes this time around since it's our last, but I'm frustrated because all of my third trimester options are summer clothes. If money was no matter, I'd slay in a fall and winter wardrobe

  • @mmom3 when were you supposed to leave? Are you definitely cancelling?
Since if we cancel we lose quite a bit of money for air fare, Halloween party tickets, and other things so we are just going to wait until Friday evening to make the call at this point since we can't rebook.
  • Remind us, how many kids and their ages:
    22-month-old DD and 19-year-old stepson

How are you feeling? How are you keeping your kids busy while managing your symptoms?
Still tired. YouTube is DD's babysitter. Ugh.

    Rants/Raves/Questions:
I cannot for the life of me sleep more than 7 hours a night. It is so frustrating. Friday we went to a baseball game that went on and on and on - went to bed at 2 am and woke up at 9 am, so yeah I slept in but 7 hours (DD had a sleepover at Grandma's). Yesterday we had an early start at 5:30 am, so we were asleep by 10 pm and here I was wide awake at 5 am this morning with my 6:30 am alarm set - 7 hours. For being as tired as I am, what the heck?!

GTKY: What is the biggest splurge you would make on this kid/nursery/pregnancy if money was no problem?
I would have a professional organizer come and clean out the closets in DD's and my stepson's rooms. They are embarrassingly packed with crap and I keep telling myself I'm going to get in there and clean them out but have yet to do so. Sigh.

  • Remind us, how many kids and their ages:
    1 son - a little over 2

How are you feeling? How are you keeping your kids busy while managing your symptoms?
Not great. The food aversions are strong, and if I don't snack/eat within a certain time frame the nausea is really bad. My son has been getting a lot of father time, but I've also just been trying to power through. He's in daycare full time (and I'm at work full time), so it's really just getting us all out the door in the morning, some evenings for 1-2 hours and bedtime (depending on who did pick up that day), and a one on one block of time on Sunday mornings while my husband does his 2nd job. Tuesdays are the hardest because I pick him up from daycare and we go to swim class - I'm not in the pool but my son has not been transitioning well to the change in schedule (swimming used to be Saturday mornings) and the new teacher. Then we get home a little on the late side, which delays bedtime.

    Rants/Raves/Questions:
I'm in a similar boat to @JamieK1882 with my vacation probably being affected by Irma. We're supposed to fly to Hilton Head on the 17th. I know the hurricane will clear out by then, but the latest models are predicting they're going to get a direct hit with it coming ashore there as a Cat 3 early next week. I can't imagine there won't be bad damage less than a week later.

GTKY: What is the biggest splurge you would make on this kid/nursery/pregnancy if money was no problem?
A bigger house in general - we have a small 3 bedroom ranch and I'd like one extra room and a real dining area (either bigger kitchen for eat in, or a separate room that's not just a section of the living room). We're also lacking storage for things like a snow blower & stroller since we don't have a garage/foyer/mud room. Our entrances are either right into the living room or the top of the staircase that goes into the basement/kitchen.

Also for me, prenatal massage bi-weekly by someone who understands the meaning of deep tissue.

  • How are you feeling? How are you keeping your kids busy while managing your symptoms?
I have felt pretty good the last three days. Nausea has decreased significantly. I am starting to perspire alot.. which I had in my last pregnancy. I am having very very weird dreams every night. Sometimes it's hard to tell what was a dream or a memory. I work full-time so my son is at daycare during the day. Work is like a break for me. My son is 14-months old and I have an almost 5 y/o stepson. My 14-month old has decided sleeping is for the birds. He will stay up for two hours in the middle of the night and wakes up before 6am every morning, no alarm clock needed! There's not much that I can do to keep a 14 month old busy, kinda have to watch him 24/7. He has kinda self-weaned from nursing at this point, which is bittersweet.

Rants/Raves/Questions: This is a really lame rant, but I am going to go for a jog outside with some colleagues during lunch. I am really excited about that and I am going to try to continue jogging throughout this pregnancy. I stayed active during my first pregnancy, but decided to stop jogging after the first trimester due to unnecessary anxiety and fears. It was so hard to get back into running after stopping for so long, and I really don't want that to happen again. Running has always been a big part of who I am.  I used to do half-marathons (not doing that while pregnant). But I would like to keep up short distances, like three miles, this time around to stay in shape. I was so worrisome when I was pregnant with my son. I was scared to move or eat the wrong thing. It is nice being a second time mom with this pregnancy. It has made me realize not to sweat the small stuff.

GTKY: What is the biggest splurge you would make on this kid/nursery/pregnancy if money was no problem? BUYING A BIGGER HOUSE. We are so overflooded with toys and stuff for the boys. You cannot even see our floor. We live in a tiny, cozy home and having a little bit bigger house with a playroom would be nice.

a mini van, on a smaller scale a dockatot and a nice double stroller
  • @Abfisher let's stay in touch about running  This is my third and I just got back from a run, and it was harder than I remember it was with DD or DS at this time. I ran through 37 weeks with my DD, and I ran through 34 with DS until I was stopped by preterm labor issues. It has always made such a big difference for me PP, so I'm hoping to continue! If anything, I'm also going to maintain another form of cardio that's easier on my joints (and pelvic floor) so I can hopefully at least do that through the end. How did your run with colleagues go?

  • Remind us, how many kids and their ages:
    DS, age 2.5

How are you feeling? How are you keeping your kids busy while managing your symptoms?
Much better than I was, nausea is pretty much gone and I have way more energy than I did, though still not 100%. Now that school started, DS is in daycare 3x a week while I work (teaching one college class, so not super draining), and I feel like I can be much more myself with him on my two SAHM days.

    Rants/Raves/Questions:
We told DS about #2 after my dating ultra sound looked good last week (11 weeks). He wants a sister, but then sometimes asks where his brother is, and knows his new sibling won't be coming out until "some months." So precious!

GTKY: What is the biggest splurge you would make on this kid/nursery/pregnancy if money was no problem?
Probably a new car. Definitely a mid-size SUV with lots of room in the back seat and an automatic lift gate.
  • Guys, help! DD can NOT stop coughing and she needs to sleep so bad. We've done a neb treatment, what else can we try?  :(
  • @chasingroygbiv honestly I used toddler safe ibuprofen with my DD when she had bad coughs...it would help her sleep for a least a few hours

Remind us, how many kids and their ages:
    DD, 2

How are you feeling? How are you keeping your kids busy while managing your symptoms?
better overall for sure. Nausea still comes in waves, still tired, but generally feel more happy

    Rants/Raves/Questions:
Rave, my DD has been so awesome and fun this summer, it makes me worry my next baby is going to be so difficult because my DD has really been quite a dream overall

GTKY: What is the biggest splurge you would make on this kid/nursery/pregnancy if money was no problem?
Double stroller, brand new bedroom set, babymoon for just mommy and daddy around Christmas, hot vacay to Hawaii with whole family next November ... a girl can dream can't she?

  • @chasingroygbiv what is in her neb? We use a saline solution for general illness, and then a bronchodilator if she is really sick (and when recommended by her ped). I only ask because I think I'd be comfortable doing a medicine in addition to the neb with the saline, but not sure about additional meds if we did the bronchodilator since I don't know about any drug interactions. With that said, we've done a small dose of Benadryl with bad coughs which seems to help dry things up a bit and help DD sleep. I hope she can fight this off quickly and get back to some good zzzs!!!

  • @mountain_girl, our second is more challenging than our first. DD, our first, was a dream baby--sleeps well, eats well, listens and follows directions, excellent verbal skills, etc--amazing demeanor and just a joy in general. DS, our second, didn't sleep through the night for awhile, gags at the sight of vegetables, and tests our boundaries constantly. With that said, he is the most amazing cuddler and shows us love in a way that no one in this world could replicate. He feels emotions really deeply, and when he's hungry, he cried more than DD when he was little, when he was tired, he fussed more, etc. BUT when he's happy, satisfied, loving--he shows us so much love and warmth that I can't imagine another human being who could make such a difference in our lives. It's amazing. He also complements our DD's personality so well, and I think he brings out a new side of her that makes her even more dynamic. She helps him and balances him, too, and I think they're both the coolest little individuals I've ever met!

Your second might be just as easy or a lot more challenging, but your love for those two is going to grow like crazy. You're going to love it (even if this next one doesn't sleep as well right away)

  • @LiveNLove44 your reply made me cry because it was so sweet and I can't wait to give my daughter a little brother or sistet. I might be a little pregnant. :D
  • @chasingroygbiv I'd definitely check with a pediatrician before mixing meds, and I don't know what's causing your DD's cough. I'm answering for post nasal drip since I think that's the most common. For those coughs Benadryl has been very helpful with my son. It helps dry out the congestion, so helps with the cough. Also, for most kids/people it also induces drowsiness, however for some it can have the opposite affect as well. So, it won't work for everyone.

  • Thanks @mountain_girl and @LiveNLove44 She has albuterol and pulmicort, currently only using albuterol. We find ourselves dealing with this often in the Fall/Winter, but never this early on in the season.  :/
  • @chasingroygbiv have you ever used a saline mix with albuterol? It's generally what it sounds, salty, and really helps dry up mucus. Like I mentioned, when DD is just wheezy but breathing pretty well, we'll just do that without albuterol, and it helps! I hope LO improves soon!

  • @LiveNLove44 like the saline nasal spray?
  • @chasingroygbiv it's the same concept, but it's made for nebulizers. When DD was about 4 months old and really sick, we got the nebulizer, and the prescribed treatment was albuterol mixed with this saline solution. Together, they really helped dry things out and help open up her airway so she could breathe. It made a huge difference! Our pediatrician said it's a great option for drying up colds if it sits in the lungs and impacts her breathing. It's been a great help!

  • @LiveNLove44 Wow. I have never heard of that, I'm going to ask her pedi about it, hopefully that'll be an option for us to try! Thanks!
  • @LivenLove44 My run was embarrassing lol. My heart rate feels so fast and it makes me out of breath. I ran two miles, and it was a struggle. It is definitely humbling going from a pretty decent runner to a complete novice. I haven't been able o get out there this past week due to my son being sick and me feeling pooey as well. I am hoping to really get back into it in the next few weeks. I love running in the fall!
