Re: 3rd Trimester Check In Week of August 28 *New Leader Needed!!!*

  • Hi, everyone!! This is my first week on the 3rd tri board. I'm super excited to be joining you all! There was a stretch of time when no one thought I would make it to 28 weeks, yet here I am!! I'm 28+3 with di/tri triplet boys. I am currently on hospital bedrest (this week will be 4 weeks) and may get to go home today to continue bedrest there. My due date is technically 11/17, but my drs just updated my max date of delivery to 9/22 (32 weeks). Babies are all doing great, just hoping my body continues to cooperate!

QOTW--I am not a sports person, but my husband is a die hard Ravens fan. Football is a whole family affair with the inlaws.
  • Loading the player...
  • Happy Monday and a big welcome to @srh18 and her triplet boys!! So exciting for you to reach this goal! I know you're a big worried to leave the hospital but I know that they would only have you go if they felt you could handle it! I hope those boys keep cooking for the next 3 weeks to make it to the ultimate goal :) Also big congrats to our new mamas last week!!

I am checking in 31+4 today with a little girl! She is still growing perfect and the next appointment isn't until the 12th which will be about 2.5 weeks since my last but they said that should be ok and then I will start going each week for cervix checks. Can't believe I am so close to the finish line!!

QOTW: I am from Knoxville, TN so we are big UT fans and this year we are going to be cheering on the Steelers since they just picked up the quarterback from UT that graduated last year. Other than that we have really only been big football fans for the past couple of years haha

  • @latershrader I am jealous of your lack of fear! I'd say I am equal parts excited and nervous.

AFM, I'm 28w4d today. I feel like hands/feet swelling is slowly getting worse, but if that's all I have to deal with that's fine. No braxton hicks contractions yet (that I know of). I was browsing the "What to expect..." book and read that really strong ones can cause vomiting. Which, you know, is great to read when you're someone with an intense fear of getting sick. :( That's partly why labor and delivery scares me- it seems like there's an opportunity to get sick at every turn. Although, I do hear stories all the time about ladies who made it through vomit-free, so there's hope!

We have our second labor/birth class this evening. I left the last class feeling informed, but freaked out bc like... this is really happening!

QOTW: I literally follow no sports teams, haha. Go sports! Do the thing! Make the points! ;)

  • @srh18 ahh so happy to see you here!! So amazing to know that a month from now you will be having triple the love! <3

@joslynj11 It's really going to start speeding up for us now! So happy to hear that everything is perfect with baby girl. <3

@Polythene Pam I know that pressure feeling that you are talking about. Let us know how the tea goes! I have read that it helps tone the uterus as well.

@latershrader I am so excited for you! You are going to do amazing, and can't wait to hear your birth story! <3

@LeFemmeViolette I hope your birth class goes well! I frequently get BH contractions but so far no nausea. They are much more intense the last week though. Crossing my fingers that you don't experience any nausea.

@omarismyhomeboy ahhh you are almost there, this is all so exciting! Definitely ready for the Harvey fiasco to be over with. I'm glad you guys are safe!

AFM - 32w3d with baby girl. I'm in Houston so we are experiencing Harvey. Thankfully we don't have interior flooding (just a few ceiling leaks), but we have been stuck in our house for a few days due to flooding. We are so lucky to not be going through what so many others are right now, and I can't help but get emotional when I think about it. Once the water recedes a bit I'm going to try and get out and help as much as I can. The hospital district is flooded right now, so all appointments are cancelled until further notice.

QOTW- I'm not good with sports lol. I guess the Texans are my team so go football!

@lefemmeviolette if it makes you feel any better, I made it through vomit free! I was super nervous about that too!  It's most common for it to happen through transition. I'm pretty sure I didn't vomit because my labor went quite quickly... I went from 1cm to 5cm in about 2 hours and then 2 hours labor I was ready to push!

    @chocolateislife stay safe!

Thinking of all the Texas mamas out there! Stay safe!

  • @latershrader - wishing you the best of luck on Thursday and fx for no c-section. Recovery is rough, but if you do end up needing one, know that it is certainly most worthwhile <3

@ChocolateIsLife - we're in Houston too.... so sad. I'm glad to hear you haven't been flooded. We too have been fortunate to stay dry, we feel very blessed.

@omarismyhomeboy - so exciting you're so close. Hope all goes well for you, and that the cabin fever due to weather doesn't bother too much.

@LeFemmeViolette - I am someone who made it vomit free as you know. Knowing how we are, I think you'll be just fine, but totally appreciate the anxiety surrounding it! :)

latershrader - Good Luck!  Hope it's a quick induction, a quick delivery, and a speedy recovery!  I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that it is won't be a c section!
LeFemmeViolette - if it helps, I didn't get sick with my daughter.  Hope it doesn't happen with you!

    @JWatt5 - He's too adorable!

AFM, I am 31 weeks today, only 8 weeks left - oh boy!  I had a doctor's appointment on Friday and got a chance to speak with my ob on my delivery options.  Basically, we will plan a c section in case I need it but the plan is to push to week 39.  My ob doesn't recommend a vaginal delivery if only 1 is head down.  So I don't know if I should hope for both to be head down for a possible vaginal delivery?  I kind of like the idea of having a planned delivery but at the same time, getting cut open freaks me out, particularly since I have never had a single surgery or procedure that required me to go under the knife.  Plus all the stories I've heard about the pain post - c section makes me anxious.  It's also possible that the first would be vaginal, and the 2nd would be c section.  That would be the worst possible scenario, in my opinion.  I guess I'm glad I have 8 weeks to think about it ...

QOTW:  I'm not a sportsy person but dh is more of a baseball guy.  Luckily, his team is out of the running for the world series and soon it will all come to close!  (He yells at the tv a lot)

@hopeby2015 with my twins one was breech and one was head down. They were both head down at 36 weeks then B flipped back to breech at 37 weeks. I was hoping for a vaginal but like you absolutely did not want a double whammy. So we ended up with an elective c-section. There is some pain but it really isn't that bad. They should have you on good pain control in the hospital and send you home with plenty of meds. The key is just staying on top of your meds, even if you feel good. feel free to PM me if you have any other questions.
@LeFemmeViolette my hands swelled with the twins and with this pregnancy. I did not have foot swelling till after my c-section but I know plenty of moms who have had swollen feet during their pregnancies. you are not alone.

@wabash15 - thanks for the info!  I guess you're right - it'll all come down to pain management.  I hope it won't be too bad with all the meds if it comes down to it ..

  • @hopeby2015 though it was not the birth I had hoped for my c-section was a great experience. Since it was elective my doctor took the time to let the cords finish pulsing, the twins were term so DH got to do skin to skin not long after they were born, we were able to try breast feeding while i was in recovery. The whole team was super supportive. An added bonus is with the spinal you can't get out of bed for 24hrs so you don't have to do diapers for the first day! A planned c-section is a whole different ball of wax then an emergency one and the recovery from a planned is not nearly as hard as one where you labored for a long time first.

  • @LeFemmeViolette (lurking) I had twins 3 weeks ago. For several weeks before I gradually developed swelling in my hands and feet, especially if I was up for long periods. It would go down overnight. Some days you couldn't tell a difference between my calves, ankles, and feet; it was much worse than just cankles! Just monitor it to make sure you aren't swelling too much and that your face isn't swelling a lot. Also let your OB know. Mine was never bad enough to worry about b/c it always went down when I rested.

    TTC for 8 years.
Started in 2008 with timed intercourse, ovulation testing, no official monitoring.
OB-GYN recommended Clomid and timed intercourse, attempted for 6 straight months.
First surgery June 2009 (OB-GYN): diagnosed with stage 4 endometriosis and large hydrosalpinx on right tube.
Second surgery (July 2009, RE performed this): Right tube had to be removed, lots of adhesions removed.
Attempted "trying on our own" as per RE recommendations, unsuccessful 5-6 months.
HSG performed December 2009: left tube open.
February 2010: started Femara and timed intercourse, attempted 6 months, no BFPs.
Took a break for a while.
January 2011: started IUI process, ovaries never properly responded to medications, 6 failed attempts, never actually completed an IUI.
Took 2012-2014 off due to depression and frustration (side note: did complete grad school to become a nurse practitioner- great distraction).
2015: started seeing RE again, went through tons of testing and HSG, left tube now blocked, only option is IVF.
September 2015: Started first official IVF cycle, cancelled in October due to large cyst on left ovary.
October 2015: started on birth control for 2 months.
December 2015: attempted to start another IVF cycle, cysts on both ovaries on initial ultrasound, left was huge, cancelled to aspirated cyst.
January 2016: Cyst back, surgery for ex-lap, cyst and adhesions removed.
March 2016: Attempted second IVF cycle, estrogen way too high, cyst back, cancelled again.
April 2016: Third attempted IVF cycle, 7 eggs retrieved, 2 mature (but not great) embryos made to fresh transfer, neither implanted.
May-Sept 2016: Break to regain sanity.
Sept-Oct 2016: Attempted fourth IVF cycle, very successful, cyst still on left but we ignored. 7 mature "great looking" eggs retrieved, 4 mature embryos made it to day 5 transfer. Transfer aborted due to large amount of endometriosis fluid in uterus.
FET of 2 embryos completed on 12/12/16.

I tried on DH's wedding ring the other day and it fit perfectly! Womp womp.

Also, went in for a dental appt today and mentioned i was having jaw pain to which they said: "Yeah, that can happen in pregnancy due to swelling." Lol. So yeah, water retention seems to be something my body is getting reeeeally good at.

  • @LeFemmeViolette If you aren't already wearing them, give compression socks a try. They took care of the worst of my swelling. Also, I had a ton of swelling in my feet after after my cesarian. Dr said that when I'm sitting with my feet up to point and flex them (or have DH do it) and then rub my legs after. Apparently it helps move the fluid back up so your body can take care of getting rid of it. It did wonders for me!
  • 30+1 with our little man, due 11/8 (lol forgot to add that last time).  Can't believe we're in the 30's home stretch already, seems like the summer and the pregnancy just flew!  We've been big-budget nesting lately, taking care of some home maintenance projects and up next is probably car shopping, which is always pretty rough but it's gotta be done.

Doctor-wise, had a horror show of a 3 hour glucose test this week.  First off, walked back to get the first draw, there's an open cup of urine from someone's drug test just sitting out on the table, which had me gagging (if I'd had time to reschedule, I would've, but I have no other available dates). Then the guy spent 10 minutes digging through my arm with the needle, flatly refusing to go in through my hand like I asked after the second try, and did that for every draw, then I passed out after the one-hour draw.  So yeah, raging disaster lol.  It really does baffle me that that's the best test we can come up with for GD, putting our bodies through that kind of shock treatment.  Checkup on Friday, so hopefully at least the results come back clean.

@LeFemmeViolette I am definitely swollen, and it gets worse with heat and humidity (one of the reasons I'm looking forward to fall).  I usually wear my engagement ring and wedding band as a set, but they won't both fit my finger at the same time anymore, and sometimes even one at at time won't fit or will hurt if it's really hot out.  And my feet, forget it.  I have sausage toes, lol.  We've had a break lately from the heat and humidity here, and it's been amazing, but today is humid again and I can already feel my hands swelling.

QOTW: We don't really follow sports. DH plays fantasy football, but not seriously. We'll go to games once in a while because we like the stadium experience, but I usually skip football games because I hate being out in the cold.
  • @persnickity Yes! A friend told me to try compression socks too. I just ordered some last night- after I realized I had pitting edema. Yikes. They should get here tomorrow!

  • LeFemmeViolette - the only good thing about having really bad swelling is that post birth after your body shrinks a bit from all that water retention, you will realize that you did not gain as much weight as you had thought while pregnant.  So for my dd, I gained like 60 pounds according to the scale but within 2 weeks of delivery, I lost 40 pounds.  All of that was water retention (and baby obv) but mostly water retention - that's how bad it affected me.  If that's the case with you, think of it this way:  2/3 of your body weight might just be water retention.

@latershrader - Good luck today!  hope its a smooth and quick delivery and recovery!  Can't wait to see updates!

  • @latershrader Congrats on being able to meet your little one soon!
  • @srh18 Great to hear that your triplets continue to be content in there.
@PolythenePam I hope your appointment this week with your doc went well and helped answer questions. I'd love to hear how the tea works for you!
@latershrader So excited for you to meet your little one! Best wishes to you for a safe and speedy delivery!
@omarismyhomeboy I'll be rooting for you tomorrow.
@ChocolateIsLife Thinking of you throughout this Harvey crap and hoping you and your family stay safe.

AFM, 36+2 with my little girl. Feeling OK but starting to get uncomfortable. The pressure down there is periodically pretty intense. Had an OB Appt and ultrasound and everything looks good. The estimate was her weighing in at 6 lbs 3 oz (64th percentile), and we confirmed she's head down. Unfortunately her favorite spot is with her butt is jammed right into my ribcage, so that gets rough and squashes my stomach and diaphragm.

QOTW: I'm a diehard Colts fan. DH didn't really have an NFL allegiance when I met him, but I converted him quickly. :)

Bonus: thought you all might get a kick out of my little angel flipping off the camera during Wednesday's ultrasound. Looks like she takes after her momma already....

  • @hopeby2015 I like that silver lining! Very good point. :)
