Unable to sleep already?

Anyone else dealing with insomnia already? I'm only 4 weeks 4 days but I've been having trouble sleeping for at least the last week. I spend most of my night tossing and turning and then am wide awake by 4am thinking of random things. Lol

Re: Unable to sleep already?

  • So interesting this thread was posted today! I'm not having trouble staying asleep as much as falling asleep. I've been having to take melatonin and my dogs woke me up at 5 today and it was all over for me. Going to need a cup of coffee this morning...

    Me!
ETA: they ate the rest of my response.
I'm used to insomnia, but for me, this is different. I just keep waking up all throughout the night. This is a brand new symptom for me.

  • I was up from 1-4am last night! I'm only 4w3days.
  • Benedryl is a girl's best friend. I take it at night because since I stopped my allergy meds my nose has been out of control!  Side affect is it helps me sleep!

Is Benadryl ok to take during pregnancy? I just have to ask.

I'd love an iced coconut milk mocha macchiato from starbucks right about now
  • Yes! for the past two weeks I have been sleeping horribly. Sometimes it takes me awhile to fall asleep, but I wake up so many times during the night now. I used to be out until the early morning, but not anymore. And my dreams are so vivid and weird.
@charlestonchew I hate when my dogs wake me up. I love them, but when they do that I want kick them out of the bedroom so bad! One of mine likes to shake when he gets up to change position, and he has big lab ears so it is so loud!

  • @labgrand2012 Mine, too.  He's a black lab mix.  I've always had problems sleeping, so this is nothing new for me.

Ugh....and combined with switching to decaf. Struggle city. I work from about 7am-9pm now a days, too.

@labgrand2012 @sandbar517 @charlestonchew my black lab mix sleeps like a log! Sometimes I wake up and I accidentally pushed all the covers all over this face...he doesn't even notice. But, as soon as I get up to pee....he's ready for his breakfast. Then he will go back to sleep with my husband for another 3 hours.....if only I had that life.
  • I always have trouble sleeping so it’s not new but I am already getting round ligament pain at 4+5 second pregnancy when I roll over in bed.   Didn’t help my 20 mo old screamed for 2 hrs last night from 3-5 am since we are weaning from the zipadeezip.   Looks like I’m ordering the next size up today lol...mama needs sleep.
  • Yes!! I am NOT a morning person and could sleep until noon if I didn't have work, a husband, a child, and 3 furballs. Since my BFP I wake up bright an early and well before my 6am alarm. Still don't want to roll out of bed though.

I think we are the same person.

  • Same here! I'm usually a night owl and could sleep in forever (ok with other kids it's more like 8-9ish now!), but this past week I've been exhausted yet hard to fall asleep and then I'm awake at 4-5am unable to fall back to sleep! This morning I woke up at 4:30am to pee and then just laid there staring at the ceiling

Me too. I spend 80% of my night tossing and turning and then am wide awake by about 4:30. I got my kids up at 6 for school so I don't even bother laying back down. Smh. I just get up and start looking at baby names and gear. Lol
  • Ugh, I've had the worst insomnia. Last night I went to bed at 6:15pm because I was desperate, and I still somehow only got 8 hours of sleep in a 12 hour time period (thanks FitBit). I just wake up at like 1am and then don't fall back asleep until about 20 minutes before my alarm goes off in the morning. My last pregnancy this was one of my only symptoms though, no morning sickness, so I guess I'll consider myself lucky if that still holds true! Might try Benadryl once or twice a week to make sure a get a couple good nights in there.

Yes, it's safe... also how I fall asleep lately. Now if I could stay asleep past... say...4am I'd be golden.
  • FTM here, so i didn't know this was a thing? I wake up 2 hours before my alarm (4am) every day lately and I'm getting real sick of it.

Add me to the not sleeping group. Between being pregnant, my cough and now having to be on steroids, sleep is not happening.

  • I'm normally a great sleeper.. one of those people that needs a solid 7-8 hrs to function well. But just like with my last pregnancy, I started sleeping horribly around 4w. Tossing and turning, too cold, too hot, etc.
  • Ftm here. Ive been up for the last hour. Its 2:51 am here. I thought it was just me. Didnt know this was a pregnancy thing. Glad to know now. Any solutions to being awake for a few hours everynight?
  • @jbeckley120 I'm still trying to figure that out as I sit here at 4:19am
  • Hey ladies.  I got about three hours of sleep per night with my last pregnancy.  I didn't feel much different, but my husband says that I was no fun to be around.  It's 3am right now, so it looks like we're both in for it.

Just in case any of you ladies don't know about Sleep Hygiene, here is a list of rules to get better sleep:

Hydrate well throughout the day but stop drinking an hour before bed
Stop using screens an hour before bed
Use only red light before bed
    Don't go to bed hungry
Get up and go to bed at the same time every day, even if you didn't sleep enough
Use red light when you first get up, then bright blue or yellow light.  You can buy programmable color bulbs for less than 20 bucks
    Warm blankets, cool room
Don't try to sleep for more than fifteen minutes.  Do something else, then go back to bed

The last time I was pregnant was in 2011.... did I read right that limited coffee is ok while pregnant?!?
  • @ellelepa limited caffeine is fine. I limit myself to a regular cup of coffee a day or a soda a day, if I even have either of those. I'm not addicted to caffeine thankfully.

I'm already loving this pregnancy the most.
