I don't think there is a thread for this topic. Have you started shopping around for a photographer? Is there a particular theme you are going to do or a place you are going to go? When do you plan to have them done? Share your ideas and even pictures too, when you have them.

Mine are today!!!! I know it's early but we are up home in Canada and it's a much more scenic backdrop than phoenix will ever be. We are taking some casual ones with me and H and then some artistic maternity ones in a fancy gown as well. I will report back!

Yes! My SIL used this woman and she's fantastic. We want birth photos so included in that package is maternity so we can get to kno each other before the big day. She's on vacation now but got in touch with me that we're still a go (I have not started paying her so I was a little worried). Now we just gotta hope she's available the one weekend DH is and that I don't go into labor a month early. I hate waiting so long but his weekend in Sept is labor day, we have a ton to do that weekend as it is but I don't think she'd even be available so we gotta pray the last weekend of Oct is a good one for us

My sister does them. She will hopefully do the the weekend of our shower. I'm a bit nervous that it's now scheduled for less than a month before I'm due, so I'm hoping they get done before he comes.

My sister has a really nice camera and does senior pics and small jobs. I plan to have her take them the first week of September when we visit. I will only be 29 weeks along, so hopefully my bump grows a little more in the next 2.5 weeks.

They won't be high end professional, but will get the job done for no money. I plan to pay for newborn photography though....but damn is it expensive. I found a photographer that does great pics as an add on if you work with a doula group. It's $450 for the session and includes 10 images. Not a lot of photos, but the most reasonably priced I have found in our area.

I found a photographer whose studio is overloaded with every different outfit, design and style you could possible imagine. My last maternity shoot we did 2 years ago when I lived back home in Central NY, we had our pictures done at sunset on Lake Ontario. They turned out really nice. This time, I want the intimate pictures with the gowns, the belly showing, all the different poses and such. This photographer specializes in those types of pictures. I think I'm going to get my hair and makeup professionally done as well. This will be my last pregnancy so I feel that I want to go all out. She's insanely expensive though. She will only do your maternity pictures if you book a newborn session with her. Her newborn gallery is amazing. She has so many adorable outfits and props. She charges $600 for the maternity shoot which includes 10 5X7 pictures in a nice photo album. The newborn shoot is $1075.00! It's very expensive but I just love her work!

I got my first round done a few weeka ago.
My next shoot is sept 13 and my last shoot will be early October

@bcashaw You have 3 rounds of maternity photos? I honestly have never heard of that...is it to show the progression?

We had the most perfect sunset tonight. We did photos as a couple in casual outfits, then some in two different gowns that were mostly me, but we caught enough sunlight to have a few with H in the white gown I loved so much. Now we have to wait 4 weeks for all the edits to be done

I'm not planing to do maternity photos (I didn't the first time around either) but I am hoping one of our favorite photographers offers "mini-sessions" this fall, as they often do. This will be the last set of pro photos as a family of 3.

I'll get maternity photos soon been holding out till now to book work . Couldn't work before just looking dumpy and bloated but now I actually look pregnant I can work again . Nothing booked privately like a maternity shoot tho I'll probably just fit in a few photo shoots over September early October with photographers I work with regularly who want to take advantage of the time sensative situation then I won't work till maybe end of summer if I can get my body back in order all depends on how perminante the damage is and how I feel hubby is off work till 8/01 so probably just focus on being a family at least those couple months
Will get baby photos with my sil who's a photographer. Mostly children and family portrait we just said she can do what she likes for it so she's super excited

No official maternity photos for me. My husband is pretty strongly set against them (mostly for financial reasons). I'm also not a huge fan of posed pictures or getting all done up in outfits I otherwise would never appear in. (I strongly considered sneaking down to MA to have our wedding photographer take some maternity pictures of me because she is just so good at the family pictures. But our travel schedule is too hectic from now through birth to give me time to sneak out.)

I have told him, though, that I do want him to take a nice picture of me before the baby is born. He is a very good photographer himself, with professional-grade equipment. On that he relented.

@cwalker042 those are crazy prices! My photographer is charging $1000 for birthing but includes maternity in that price and gives a discount for newborn if you book the birthing set. So we'll be paying $1250 for the 3 sets...that's a lot for me (a months pay!) But totally worth it and you can't redo birthing photos lol

I agree that she's expensive, but I'm willing to pay for them even though it's more than I'd like to spend. I never thought about birthing photos. I don't think I'd like them though. It's not something I want to look back on. I can look at others birthing photos but I wouldn't look at or show my own.

Lol! I can understand that. I didn't think I'd want them originally but a few friends got them done and I think they were so beautiful and you capture the first moment as a family without it being staged I just fell in love. Also my husband's military so in my eyes it was if he's there for the birth we get these gorgeous photos but if he's not, he gets to see what happened (without the gory details) . Luckily he will be there - he leaves 2 weeks after I'm due, so even if baby comes late hell be there for the birth. But while he's gone he can have the photos of his first time with baby. I don't think I'd hang them up lol, maybe one of me holding him when they place him on me, if it comes out good but I'd make a book to have - we have a coffee book for each moment - engagement and wedding so far, so I'd like each baby to have their own.

Not normal from what i understand.
First shoot was with a local photographer who is unbelievably affordable, i did a beach bikini shoot for that.
Second shoot is with a photographer who is fairly expensive but i have been in awe of her work for a long time.
Third shoot is a family maternity shoot (again with the first photographer) its about time we had nice family photos taken.
I never got married or had engagement photos taken, and we likely never will. Ive always loved being in photographs and this is a part of my life i want to remember and have a record of. Its pretty likely this will be our only child. Plus, seeing the photos really helps with my self esteem which is great because all of these body changes have been difficult for me.

I am a birth photographer, and you would be surprised! Most photos done by a birth photographer are not actually of the birth itself, but rather the emotion, the pain, the details, the first seconds after baby is born, the reactions of mom and dad, etc. I have had clients on the fence about having birth photography done, and after they did it, they said that it was a great experience. A few were sad that they hadn't done it with their first child!

Had mine done yesterday in a studio and the photographer decided to do a few more today outdoors at a popular park. Hubby took a few when he remembered so they aren’t the greatest. Once I get a few sneak peeks back from the photographer I’ll post them.

I had posted in a HDBD thread at some point, but we had my sister do pics at a beach during our September babymoon. I was 29 weeks at the time. Even though they aren't professional, I was pretty happy with them. We are choosing to put our investment in newborn photos, so this was a good alternative.
