baptisms and naming ceremonies? Are people still doing these and when?

I am trying to get some ideas about a naming ceemony or baptism, but am not sure the time frame this should happen. Any advice or expereinces you can share would be great! Thanks!

    DS was just baptized this past Sunday; so he was almost 4 months.  My nephew was baptized at 1 year and my niece at 3.  So it really is all up to you.

    Due to family schedules DS will be almost 8 months at his baptism.  I would have preferred to do it at 4 months.

    DD was just baptized on Dec 28th.  But we had friends that baptized their daughter when she was like 9 months old

    DS was 2 months old at baptism.

    DD will be about 10 months, if all goes according to plan.

    It's really up to you and your religious beliefs.  We attend church regularly, and our denomination (Episcopalian) does infant baptism, so we had our DD baptized at 3 months.  Some denominations do dedications for infants and don't bapize until children are old enough to understand what it means on their own.  If you aren't religious and don't intend to raise your baby in a religion, then I don't really see the point of baptism, but if you do, it's the type of thing that can be done whenever you want, at least where baptism is concerned.  I think baby namings, at least in the Jewish tradition, usually happen shortly after birth.  I've also heard of non-religious baby celebrations that are done in the first month or two after birth to welcome the baby, but don't have much experience with those first hand.

    We are in Owings Mills too! 

    We are doing our baby naming in February and DD will be just shy of 2 months. We could have done it earlier, but we wanted to do it over a long weekend and have family members that are overseas and are waiting for them to return.

    My husband and I got married on 080808 and will have our baby in June of 2009, so we were thinking a family ceremony where we welcome and formally name Baby Welch on the weekend of our anniversary 08.08.09. Neither one of us are very religious, but having a symbolic service for our child only seems appropriate.
