STM + pregnancy comparisons/differences

I know some of us may still be too early to tell but what about this pregnancy is the same or different than your first (or others)?

I don't want to jinx myself but so far this is vastly different than my first!! At this time with my DS, i was already hospitalized for hyperemesis and popping zofran like it was candy! I was too sick to even shower. I praaaaaaay it doesn't come back. Don't get me wrong, I still feel icky and don't want to eat but it's at least manageable.

One thing that's the same is I lost my sweet tooth and interest in coffee.

I am still not that far along, but it is already different than my pregnancy with my first.  With that I had zero symptoms and could have gone on a while without knowing I was pregnant (if I wasn't tracking my cycles).  This time right off the bat I had nauseous days and sore boobs.  And suppppper tired.

I'm trying not to freak out about how different mine have been so far. First one was relatively easy, but at this point my boobs were huge and sore and I couldn't drink coffee. So far I haven't felt any kind of symptoms and I actually just had some light brown spotting today. Praying to god it's just a different pregnancy at a bit older age!

My first pregnancy was rainbows and sunshine: hardly any symptoms aside from exhaustion and some food aversions early on, not a day of cramping and everything was absolutely textbook.

My second pregnancy was a bit scary: spotting to the point I went to the ER, cramping throughout the first trimester and my body felt like it was falling apart by about 28 weeks.

This time I've been nauseated 24/7, which is totally new to me. I'm hoping that passes soon. Not sure how I'll feel further down the road, but three babies in three years is TOUGH.

With my first I was nauseated more but I don't remember my boobs hurting for this long or CM for this long.  I can also already tell a difference emotionally.  With my DD I could cry at the drop of a hat, this time I just feel angry and haven't cried once.

Edited to add I also craved salty food super bad when I was pregnant with my DD this time around nothing really sounds good.

Too early for me to tell on most things because I'm only 5 weeks 3 days, but here's some:

1st pregnancy: Other than being irritable and craving kale, I had no symptoms at all until the first day of week 6, at which point BAM, all day every day nausea til week 14.  Never had sore boobs/nipples, never had cramping, just constant nausea and aversions.

This pregnancy: some cramping here and there, sore nipples here and there, a couple of waves of nausea already, but definitely nothing consistent, and FATIGUE.  (The fatigue could be due to having a toddler, haha.)

@maureenmce - ha, same. My baseline level of energy was in the negatives before I even got pregnant this time -- I guess the fatigue is just par for the course :#

With my first, at 16 weeks my friends and coworkers asked if I was ever going to look like I was pregnant with something other than a food baby. Baby #4, at 4+2, and I look about that pregnant already. Insanity.

I have also breastfed all three of mine for over a year each, and it has definitely affected the sensitivity of my boobs. I had that symptoms big time with baby #1 but babies #2 and 3, much less. (And let me tell you, my boobs have taken a MAJOR hit in this whole childbearing/nursing process.)

@kmalls three babies in three years is legit. Mine are all 2 years apart and that has been crazy enough.

My first 2 pregnancies were the same: easy. Like sooo easy. A little tired in first tri was the max of my discomfort w both my daughters.

This one I'm sick. I'm thankful I've only ever been sick this one time but damn!

With my last pregnancy my boobs never hurt until my milk came in and they were ready to pop! My boobs have hurt since 4 weeks this time around, and they are HUGE!! I can't believe how bad they hurt. Also my nausea is different this time around. Last time I had it about 9-12 weeks in the morning this time it started before my BFP and is just now getting better as long as I eat constantly.

    I like this thread!

1st: I was super nauseated ALL THE TIME.  I even broke down and cried early in second tri because I had had 4 months of solid nausea.  It kind of broke me down to feel so constantly shitty.  I think it's because my HCG skyrocketed immediately.  I went from a faint line at 10 dpo to a big fat darker than control line positive at 11 dpo.  I also ended up with a major bleed, including clotting, at week 6, which made everyone think I had miscarried.  We will see if this second baby rivals the size of my daughter.  She was born the size of a 3 month old.

2nd:. So far I have the same symptoms, but MUCH less intense. Instead of unrelenting omnipresent nausea, it comes at me in waves, mostly in the evenings.  I believe that is linked to the fact that my HCG has been increasing much more gently.  My peesticks didn't get nicely dark until 14 dpo. Way more manageable.  I also have had zero bleeding this go-around, which is so amazingly nice.

1st, 2nd, 3rd and so far with 4th, I start and stay pretty crampy, I constantly feel like I am about to start my period.

1st pregnancy, I had red blood from 5-7 weeks.
2nd and 3rd, I bled from about 4.5- 8/9 weeks, which seems to be occurring with this pregnancy.

With the other pregnancies, I had mild nausea, early, then vomiting hit around week 8, and stayed for the rest of the pregnancy, with about a 2 week break when 2nd trimester started.    So far, I am really nauseated, but no vomiting yet, but I assume it is coming.

All of them, I have really bad heartburn.  And my boobs hurt early, but that usually subsides quickly.  And now as of today, I really crave sour cream with all my pregnancies.  I could eat it on everything.  I also show super early.  TW, my 2nd pregnancy ended at 14 weeks, and patients at my work were comfortable asking when I was due for a few weeks!

@btm013 , FX for no HG this time!

@maureenmce , toddlers do tend to have that affect on people.  Mine arent toddlers anymore, and I am always tired.

STMs, does anyone else have boob soreness that almost feels like being too full with milk? Maybe it's just memories of the feeling but I swear it feels like I have milk already. I haven't nursed in exactly a year.

@Puddlewonderful I'm still nursing but make very little milk at this point (maybe 5 oz a day?) and I also feel super full like I could spray the world.

@maureenmce the having a toddler really does change the experience! At some times LOs are a nice distraction!

Last time I was extremely nauseous from the beginning. Hoping not to be this time. My sense of smell is insane like my last 2 pregnancies and I can't sleep well. I just feel so uncomfortable and bloated.

My first pregnancy I basically had zero symptoms, except really tired later on and my boobs hurt in the beginning.

This time, so far for about a week and a half, I have been getting nauseous every day.  Usually every morning, and 1-3 more times through the day.  I haven't thrown up luckily (really have to hold it back sometimes), and am forcing through it with some food that's tolerable, and it seems to go away fairly soon after.  My boobs are like, huge and busting out over the tops of my bras already and they HURT.  DS is always hurting my boobs somehow.  Also, I feel like I gained so much weight already and it's making me unhappy and uncomfortable.  First time around it took a little while before I started gaining.  I need to do some kind of exercising.

    Both very different so far...
1st: I had super sore boobs from day one, super hungry and craved salty, sweet and fatty foods, put on 20lb just in my first trimester. Food was my lifesaver with nausea from 6wks-13wks!

Current: Boobs only slightly sensitive (possibly due to nursing still?), nausea not too bad, but have lost my appetite.....and 7lb since finding out. The only similar symptom is the dizzy spells.

@Puddlewonderful oh I forgot about the luxury of stomach sleeping! Has someone created a pillow that allows for 9 months of stomach sleeping yet????

YES. And I haven't nursed in 2 years. My boobs are so swollen and feel very full.

So far symptoms are the same, no nausea, but lots of bloat. It's still early, so we'll see. I'm more tired, but also think that is just due to having a toddler around this time.

With my first pregnancy with my son, I was already sick and throwing up everyday in the bathroom. I was so sick! No real cravings, boobs never hurt
This one.. very dizzy, food adversions and craving green smoothies everyday! Lower back and boobs are already killing me

    @maureenmce craving kale?? that's great

1st - I remember having MS for maybe 2 weeks but I lost 7 pounds the first trimester.

This one... MS everyday, gets worse if I don't eat every 2 hours. SO TIRED. Gaining weight and already starting to show a little at 8 weeks! Nobody can notice yet but me. Also I feel like I already wobble and have pain in my hips. I think my body just remembers last pregnancy and geared up waaaay faster

1st: didn't notice much of anything, slight aversions in the first tri but nothing major.  Mostly tired and insomnia

This time:  Similar to last.  Sore boobs, no major aversions, nothing really sounds good or bad these days.  And oh the tired and insomnia again.

1st (boy): first trimester- extremely tired. some ms but not horrible. only threw up a few times.
2nd (girl): first trimester- bad, bad, bad morning sickness. bad gas-like crying in pain. lots of spotting.
*TW* 3rd (unknown-loss): extremely tired. lots of spotting. *end TW*
4th (this one): so far- extremely tired. some ms but not horrible. only thrown up a couple times.

Hoping this continues to be similar to my first pregnancy, which was MUCH more pleasant than my second. But since this will be our last pregnancy I'm going to TRY to enjoy it no matter what.

I had pretty bad cramping and more pain with #1 but that makes sense because I'm sure things are more stretched out now. I've lost my appetite for anything sweet which is the same as last time. I'd say the nausea is about the same so far. 8-12 weeks was the worst with #1 and I'm 8 weeks today so we'll see how it goes.

Like others, the first pregnancy with my daughter i had no symptoms until 2nd trimester. This time around, I have all the symptoms.

Question for STMs+, was your labor faster/different for your second compared to your first?
  • Options
@peppersmith22 my first was extremely long. Like Tuesday evening - Friday morning long. My second was twelve hours. Hoping my third is even shorter. With my first i tore, with my second i didn't. The recovery time was much faster with my second.

Wow this was fun to read! I thought I read that 90% of pregnant women have morning sickness, and now I'm starting to think, especially for the first pregnancy, that number is an overstatement!
  • Options
I'm fairly certain I'm already starting to show (a little) and that it's not just all bloat. I didn't show anywhere near this early with DS. The MS is also definitely more intense and I have all the food aversions in the world.
  • Options
So far this pregnancy has been so much harder. The nausea and food aversions are worse, my mood swings are unprecedented, I already have RLP, and I swear I look four months pregnant. I don't know whether this is all just due to being my second, or if it's partly because I'm six years older than I was last time, but it's seriously kicking my butt.

With my daughter I had sever cystic acne that started early and had to finally be helped by a dermatologist when DD was 8 months old. My skin has been looking amazing this time. I've read that for second and subsequent pregnancies everything hurts more and I've found that to be very true. RLP, low back pain, dullness and pressure in my lower abdomen. Constant boob and nipple pain, especially the feeling of having hit needles driven into my nips. Don't remember that with DD. I remember mildly sore boobs for the first month or so and some RLP. The nausea is annoying but it's just that and dry heaving, no vomiting yet. Vomiting was bad with DD and I ended up hospitalized for 5 days

    Me (33). DH (37). DD (2.2012). MCs x4. After 4 years & 7 months, due 4.2018!

With my first I hardly had any symptoms until week 6, then it was just mild nausea and a debilitating sleepiness. All I wanted in life was a nap my fist tri. After that not much other than shoulder/back pain and acid reflux my third tri. Oh and if you call nesting a symptom I had it bad in third tri. My DH was constantly looking for his stuff that I had "organized".

This is pregnancy I'm 6 weeks tomorrow and already the nausea is way worse than last time. It's still manageable though. Also my skin is getting a lot of breakouts, last time it was very clear, except I had pregnancy mask. Hoping I don't get skin discoloration this time. Also I'm already getting the reflux bad and a lot more stomach issues than last time (constipation, gas, bloating). Pregnancy is so lovely. :)
