Where did summer go? I know we have a month more to go but still this summer flew by! What did you do this summer for either summer fun days or vacation?
I have a two week a vacation planned in Aug so for me summer is still alive..I hope so and if summer is almost over that means I have had shit done before baby arrives and I am going to start to panic!!
Summer has been a total whirlwind. August will be the same. Going to hope we are ready to start baby prep in September. More deep breaths here. Serenity now. Serenity now.
@ShePersisted what's on the docket for vacation? Lots of baby prep?
It's had its moments where it feels like it's rushing by, when I think of all the baby prep we have left to do, but other times, when our 5 year old is driving me insane, I think it's dragging and dream of back to school in September lol We leave in 2 weeks for a 10 day camping trip with the kids. That should be all kinds of interesting lol 27 weeks pregnant with twins, camping in the Canadian North with 2 & 5 year olds. Unable to drink wine. Just saying it out loud makes me more nervous lol
I agree! Summer just flew! In June I went to Salt Lake City for a direct sales conference and spent 5 fabulous days with some of my favorite girls. Last weekend, I went to Bear Mountain in NY for a family retreat - most of my moms siblings and their kids came along with my 93 yr old great aunt! Haven't seen some of them in YEARS so it was great! And this month I have a bridal shower for a good coworker and my baby shower!! It's been a great summer but I don't want it to end!
I am a teacher, so I want all baby stuff done except the shower before I go back. I cried yesterday about needing DH to do stuff before I get to third trimester because I'm already getting close to not being able to bend down. My hands swell and my legs are all tingly, meaning my back is about to go. Once he saw the tears, I think he realized it's time to get in gear.
It's funny how it's the little things in life that mean the most...not where you live, or what you drive, or the price tag on your clothes... There's no dollar sign on a piece of mind, this I've come to know! *ZBB*
DD goes back the 30th. I have 3 more shifts before getting 8 days in a row off and going to the Cape to relax. Maybe DH and I will get to go to the restaurant where he proposed. I need a little vacation.
This has been the most insane summer. Several work trips (New Jersey, PA, Kentucky, New Orleans, am supposed to be in Chicago right now but I cancelled it because I'm just too busy at work), my niece's high school graduation (a 4+ hour drive each way plus staying overnight), a weekend trip to Lake George, next week going to New Hampshire for a family vacation, plus my grandmother died the last week in June, plus my in-laws were here in my house for 8 days (they live 1000 miles away so this was a big visit for them) arriving the day after my grandmother's funeral, husband's birthday and father-in-law's birthday (which we did something for because he was here when it happened) 3 days apart. All this and a huge work project starting up in the past couple weeks that will probably determine whether I'm promote-able. Also later in August I might go to Vermont with my mom for a night and there's a burial service for my grandmother.
We both work at a school and went back about a week ago (short summer with a year round calendar). So luckily, DH got most of the furniture set up, we painted the nursery and got most decor done. All that is left is putting up some pictures and small items.
Some days, I feel like this pregnancy is going by fast. Other days, especially leading up to appointments, it feels super slow.
My summer is officially over. I started setting up my classroom yesterday. I can't really complain because we ended up having a pretty good, laid back summer. We went to Ruidoso, NM a couple weeks ago, which was a good vacation. I'm not ready for summer to be over, but I never am!
@lancomechica2 no I was planning to work on baby stuff in late sep. The two weeks we are going to the jersey shore and I'm just going to sit on the beach and do nothing. Yes people go ahead and judge me :-)
I am so glad I am not the only one having a whirlwind of a summer. I am honestly counting down to the end of August when we are going on vacation to Cape Cod for a week. I don't much care what all the in laws do while we're there as long as I get in some good ole relaxation. We also have not started any sort of baby prep so I'm hoping soon we will be able to get going on it. I know we still have time but for some reason I'm panicking about it.
I feel so boring and lazy compared to all your busy summers! DD and I travelled to SC at the end of May for my niece's HS graduation. Then my other niece came here for a week in July and we made that our staycation with fun outings every day. In 2 weeks we go up north for a few days then to LA the 2nd weekend in September. Summer is DH's busiest time - he works 80+ hours a week so he can't really get away and I just wasn't up for a whole lot of traveling with DD on my own being pregnant.
We've gone camping twice-once to Lake Michigan and once to Lake Huron. We are headed to Sleeping Bear in 2 weeks, VBS all next week, a wedding to attend and then classroom prep starts for school. I'm only going back until mid/late Oct so I figure I'll do baby prep in Nov--also pit washer broke in June so I've been toting only those necessities to my parents to wash! Yuck!
I'm grateful that I don't go back to school until September. I don't know how I'd deal with the heat! I am using up my last few good weeks working on getting rid of stuff in the house, organizing, and doing small fix ups like changing door knobs, touching up paint on walls, and painting trim. It has been hard to pin DH down since he has been working a lot and exhausted when he comes home. Our anniversary was on the 23rd and we still haven't gone out to dinner yet. I have a bridal shower and daytime bachelorette party this weekend and some friend meet ups before I set up my classroom and we go to OCMD for a long weekend at the end of August.

@NYTino24 I'm stuck in a similar scenario. I need DH to clean out his "office" so I can get to work on the nursery. We have to paint and get the carpet replaced before I can do anything baby related. Baby stuff is all over our house right now. I just want it in one central spot and that can't happen until he's done and painting and carpet are done. I'm hoping by the end of August he will have the room cleaned out.
Has anyone started washing their baby clothes yet? I have a ton of clothes for her but haven't washed them yet. Wondering if it's too soon to wash them.
@cwalker042 it depends how you will store them. If they are going to be in nice airy drawer or vaccume sealed bag it won't matter but if you are still keeping stuff in storage then I would wait. I had washed my sons baby clothes and put them all away in a suitcase but opened them up last week and while they are not dirty they have this distinct suitcase smell so I'm washing them all again but will do a month before baby comes.
Her clothes would be hung in the closet and put in the dresser. I'm just worried they will not smell and look fresh. Maybe I'll wait until October before I wash them all.
I washed the stuff I took out of storage. It'll be hung up this week. The new clothes I'm waiting until after my shower to see what all I have before washing everything.
@cwalker042 I washed mine already, about 10 loads between clothes and all of the Boppy covers, playmats, bouncers, etc. I moved things from cardboard boxes and garbage bags from my sisters to the dresser and plastic storage bins. I just needed to get it done before I go back to work in September because I'm usually exhausted after school and now, add in being 7-8 months pregnant!

Our biggest venture this summer was moving from Wisconsin to the Southwest... Moving long distance is so expensive and time consuming so we really didn't do many trips or vacations this year. Although we still had a lot of fun exploring our new town and nearby parks this last month or two. My kids start school tomorrow (Thank the Gods) so our summer vacation is pretty much over. But I'm looking forward to next weekend when DH and I are leaving the kids with MIL to go to Las Vegas for a romantic getaway. We only live an hour and a half away from the city and we have a lot of fun things planned.
@ShePersisted Nooooo because that means I have to start school again! I want to pee when I need to, not when I'm "allowed". It's gonna suck.

@mymulligan lol and I'm the exact opposite. I'm loving being pregnant and I hate the winter so much that I'm just like can summer stay a little longer ..I wanna meet him but I'm not ready and wanna just enjoy this while I can
Ha ha well we are still picking furniture and waiting for the painting so we can move so maybe 3 to 6 weeks . Will be getting a washing machine in there too so when the baby room is done I'll wash and put away stuff. We are fairly minimal consumers so we don't have a huge amount of things . Just enough of what we need especially in clothes and for newborn sizing . Partly we struggle to find neutrals and partly because I'm sure we'll get more stuff off family and for Christmas so we only need what we need for the first few weeks .
I'm glad the weather is warming up here it makes doing things easier but getting bigger and having at few events coming up I'm struggling to look nice . At least in the cold I can layer with jackets and scarves and look decent . Recently nothing fits and I feel like a lump and there's less excuse to hide in big comply boho jackets so people are also noticing and commenting on the bump
My DD starts school in 2 weeks. We are NOT ready. Still have all her back to school shopping to do, meeting the teacher, crossing my fingers her reading didn't regress. I'm just not ready for having to get up every day, im going to miss her but I may enjoy the ability to take a nap on my days off after she is in school.
