Right sided aorta

I was told by my high risk dr yesterday there is a 90-95% chance my son has a right sided aorta.  We have already had 2 anatomy scans, the third is next week, and a echocardiogram is scheduled in two weeks as well as anatomy scan number 4.  Has anyone had any experience with this issue?  I have looked online and the information isn't very helpful.

Re: Right sided aorta

  • Thank you!
  • So I also googled it and saw that it is extremely rare. I wonder if something will pop up if you do a search on al the boards for it?
  • I'm not sure by your description if by right sided aorta they mean the aorta curves to right instead of the left or transposition of the great vessels. You should be able to find a decent amount of information regarding transposition of the great vessels as it's a fairly common congential heart defect. Either way, I'm sorry you have to deal with this and wish you luck in whatever they find!
  • no experience, FX for you and your son. if you can get the official diagnosis terminology from your doctor, that can help your online search be more profitable

  • Update:

3rd anatomy scan yesterday confirmed aortic transposition deviating the trachea to the right with possible vascular ring.  Echo is scheduled for the 24th.  My local OB told us yesterday I would probably have to deliver at a bigger hospital 1 1/2 hours away from home.  Fiancè isn't accepting the news very well.

Again, thank you for all the support.
  • I'm so sorry to hear, @feliciapigg.  Being at the larger hospital, while a huge inconvenience, gets your little one the extra care they need.  Good luck with all this; I'm sorry you didn't get better news.
