February 2018 Moms

Tall moms!

I know we had a thread before about maternity clothes, but I couldn't find it. And I don't remember anyone with this issue - I have to dress professionally for work (no sleeveless, no capris, no jeans, and prefer no skirts). So basically, I need nice dress pants. I've looked online at Target, Kohls, pea in the pod (holy cow expensive!), Amazon, and old navy, and all of the dress pants have like 29" inseams and I need a 33 or 34.

Anyone have any ideas on where to shop next?

Re: Tall moms!

  • I haven't started shopping for maternity clothes yet, but I'm glad you started this.  I'll be watching the comments closely!  I struggle with this with normal clothes.  I end up wearing skirts and dresses a lot.  I would think that under the circumstances, skirts and dresses should be a good option, if they work in your environment.  (I often visit industrial sites, so no skirts with my steel toed boots.  But then I can go with khakis or jeans.)

  • Have you looked into any of the "mm lafleur", le tote, stitch fix options? since their job is to find and send you clothes (some have options to rent, some to buy) they can usually find things that we can't! and they are maternity friendly. this is my route as i am very tall as well. good luck!
  • ASOS Maternity has tall options, not sure if any of it would work for your work dress code, but worth checking out! Clothes are pretty well priced for the most part and really cute.

  • Loft and Gap are my go to for long pants. Their maternity selection isn't awful. You may also want to check and see if banana republic has a maternity selection. Don't waste your time with motherhood or kohls or Macy's...even their longs aren't really that long.
  • Oh. And also. Stitch fix was a total fail for long pants...both maternity and regular.  :/
  • I googled and found this list: https://prettytallstyle.com/tall-girls-resource/tall-maternity-clothes/

I'm going to (try to) stick with dresses, I found some at Motherhood and I think Kohls for work. I'm hoping I can be cut some slack; they don't exactly make maternity suit dresses. (Ooo, there's a business idea!) I figure by third tri I can wear tights so they won't be too scandalous even if they're a bit shorter than usual.

  • I am 5'9 and I had luck with Gap for long maternity pants during my last pregnancy
  • Gap and old navy have long maternity pants. I usually wear a 34-36 inseam and those are fine for me. Summer's almost over now but I also like their capris and ankle pants for work.

I'm sorry I don't really have anything helpful to add; I actually have quite the opposite problem, I'm very short. It's hard to find things that look adult or professional that fit. I end up having to hem almost everything.

This can be a total crap shoot, but honestly thrift stores are sometimes where I have my best luck. They will usually carry a wide range of manufacturers, sizes, and styles. Plus, depending on the item, a good tailor can fit it to your specific demensions.
  • Check out Motherhood Marernity. They are a bit pricy but if you can get a good sale it's not to bad. They carry longs in a lot of their styles. I have their long jeans and I'm 5'10" and they will work for someone with an inch or so on me. Good luck!
