November 2017 Moms

Let's talk baby carriers!

I have a most that I used with both girls and love it until about 6 months! I used it everyday! I also made a ringsling for the baby/toddler dinner time blues and love it. I also African carry on my back with material/blanket from 3months.

I'm looking for a carrier now that I can wear on both my front and back to use when hiking next spring/summer. Both the Kinder pack and Tula do that but are there others? Any recommendations from moms who have tried different ones?

  • i have a tula, I LOVE it! I can carry my toddlers in it too!

Met my husband in December of 2009, moved in together April 2010, Engaged June 2010, married June 2011
got pregnant after month of trying in December of 2011. resulting in our oldest 9/13/12. received a ppt January of 2012, giving us our boy 10/01/1213. Then we tried for baby number three and we received her 7/18/2015. We then decided that if we had another baby it wouldn't be so bad we found out on my birth day about baby number 4, arriving in November! We are so very blessed to have our four beautiful babies! <3

  • I think mine is called the becco soliel... it's a toddler carrier I like it. I'll double check tomorrow.
For a newborn I think I'll feel more comfortable with something that's more of a wrap and less of a carrier but I guess we will see.
  • I enjoyed my moby when my son was a teeny squish but am trying a k'tan this time for ease of use.

I had a lillebaby, a Tula, and several kinderpacks - I'm a kinderpacker for life now. It was by far the most comfortable for my back. I carried my boy until he was about 4.5 in a kinderpack!

  • I used a Moby when my son was small. I then tried an ergo which I hated as it hurt my back. I also tried a Tula but it wasn't as comfortable as I liked. I also am plus size (with big boobs) and the straps were not comfortable and make me feel like I was squishing my kid. I have a Kinderpack for my son now but we don't use it much now that he's older but we can. We used it until he was about 4. It is by far the most comfortable one I have used and it has plus sized straps so it's more comfortable for me and my husband to use (he's tall so the plus size straps work best for him. It's best for me since I have big boobs).

With this little girl, I'll use a Moby again when she's small and then move into an infant Kinderpack.

  • I love my ring sling and my lillebaby! But I'm 100% confident that if I bought a more expensive Tula or kinder pack, I'd love that even more. So I won't even try one on!  :D

  • I have a mei tai from Palm and Pond that I adore! It fits Honeybear too which was a must for me, and I like that the shape is defined more so it's hard for me to screw up when tying it on.

  • I have a k'tan and Ergo. I'm pretty meh about both of them. They are easy to put on and get the job done, but I still get super, super hot after a few minutes.

  • I have a moby which is great for when they are tiny. Once DS was about 4-5 months old, I felt I couldn't get it tight enough leaving DS unstable in it. Husband has a Bjorne that he likes but for some reason I do not. I keep hearing about a Tula that I think I want to check out for when baby is a bit older.

I have an Ergo Sport, Ring Sling and a Boba wrap.  I preferred the Boba for around the house but the Ergo Sport for out of the house. I didn't like the ring sling as it could never get it secure enough. I find I reach for my Boba wrap still for my 2 year old on his clingy teething days.

I loved my ergo when we went for walks or were out and about. I'm thinking about getting a wrap or a ring sling this time too though.
  • I love Ring slings for newbies and then I have a couple wraps for when they get older. A wool one for cushy babies and a cotton one for heavier kids. Didymos and natibaby respectively. The ring sling is 100% linen and really thin. I've tried numerous soft structured carriers (Tula, Kinderpack, etc. ) and I find myself more of a wrapper.

I had an Ergo with DS.  I liked it for a lot but had one issue with it.  There was a significant portion of time where DS wanted to face outward but I wasn't able to with my Ergo.  I know you can with the 360 but I had the regular one.  I just bought a Lillebaby for sister because of the 6 different carrying options.  I have several mom friends that swear buy Tula, I just want to be able to front carry and have baby face out and that isn't an option with the Tula.
  • Had a baby Bjorn for DS. Was ok. Want a carrier that's simple and quick without a lot of adjustments. Pockets would be a bonus feature.
  • I've been looking at the Tula and the Lilliebaby. Does anyone have experience with both? I want something for when LO is older. I have a Moby for when she is an infant. I don't see much of a difference between the Tula and Lillie. Is there one?

I used a Moby with DD and liked it a lot, until she was about 6 months old (and then the weather got cold and I stopped using it for walking around town, and by the time it was spring again she was walking). I'm looking for something easier to wrap this time, though, with the closeness of the Moby. Any suggestions? I am small with a short torso so something with maybe fewer layers of wrapping?

  • I second looking into your local BWI to try stuff out and learn about safety.

I prefer my boba when tiny and then Ergo. My almost 3 year old is still happy in the Ergo in piggy back mode. I also have a woven wrap and just got a ring sling to try for H in the early days. Since he always wanted me to tie the boba on him.
  • @Abby7 Have you tried a ring sling? Or if you like a wrap the k'tan is a pre wrapped one. Just loops.
  • How do you go about finding a local BWI? Do I just search Facebook?
  • @ShePersisted yes or look at Baby Wearing International website. It lists local chapters.

I have not tried a ring sling but I am looking into them now that everyone is listing the brands they liked. The Lillebaby ring sling looks really nice and somehow like the ring itself would be less slippy?

Good to know about the k'tan. I looked at that too (based on this thread) and I thought it looked exactly like the Moby, but I see now that it's different in how you put it on.

  • @Abby7 I have a Bribetts ring sling. You can find a ton on Etsy that meet BWI standards.
  • I am petite and find that a lot of soft strutted carries don't work for my short self, kinder pack was the only one that didn't hurt my hips as bad and i could use it for longer than any other.

My favorite is woven wraps. I have a few and i love that i can bundle up, use one layer, back, side, or front carry. it so versatile and fits all body types. It was definitely a learning curve but not anything more than other baby things hahah.

  • My first was super picky about his carriers, which was kind of frustrating and disappointing. One of the other new moms used this really affordable one by Infantino and I vowed that the second time around that's what I'd try. They're only $30 and they seem like a good marriage between something like an Ergo that's structured and maybe easier to use, and a wrap that's a little more snug for that 4th trimester phase. Anyway, it was one of my first purchases for baby #2 and I'm excited to see how it goes.
  • Anyone that's used a lillebaby carrier do you recommend another wrap type carrier as well? With DD I used a wrap only but I'm looking for something easier this time. I was thinking of a wrap though for the times at home though when I'm not in a rush.
  • We are planning on the lillebaby airflow for H. He tried it on and loved how secure it felt. I am planning on a sollebaby wrap. SIL swears by them and has used them almost exclusively with both of hers from day 1

I bought an Infantino for this baby and so far, it seems to be working great! I would love to have a lillebaby someday with the other features (mesh all seasons airflow, pockets, forward facing capability), but at this point, name brand carriers are out of our budget.

I got the Infantino Upscale. Technically, it says you can forward face, but the illustration definitely shows that it's a "crotch dangled" when used that way, so I wouldn't.

It's very comfortable for me. Nice padding on the straps and hip belt. My daughter seems to like it as well.
  • I got a K'tan, Ergo, and Lilliebaby all on clearance at BRU. My sister gave me an Over the Shoulder Baby Holder ring sling that I probably won't use. I plan on using the K'tan when he's little and then Ergo. Lilliebaby will be for DH.
It's funny how it's the little things in life that mean the most...not where you live, or what you drive, or the price tag on your clothes... There's no dollar sign on a piece of mind, this I've come to know! *ZBB*

Lillebaby is always having sales and giveaways, follow them on Facebook/instagram. Right now there are some complete's for as little at $90 and some essentials for as little as $58 (you can't face out in the essentials) on their last chance sale on their website.
