My mom keeps asking me if I have registered yet... I have not... When should I start thinking about that? No shower has been planned yet, so I wasn't in any big rush.
DH and I started our registry after our big ultrasound so that we could add things that were specific to our little boy (or girl, if that had been the case). We revisit it periodically to add/remove items as we find other stuff we like.
I am not having a baby shower the second time but I did register for things that I know I need just to keep a list running. With number one we registered the day we found out we were having a boy so around 20 weeks. It is up to you when you want to register though.
I plan on having a baby shower in April (April Showers) hahah.. anyways.. I will probably register in March or so because of the fact that I will probably change my mind. I did when I registered for my wedding.
Are you planning to find out what you're having?? If so, you might want to wait until after you do. I started my BRU registry online and once I found out what I was having, I went in the store and double checked everything.
Most wait until the big U/s to find out the sex of the baby. My big decisions were where to register and how many places would count as too many since there are different items at different locations that I like.
I registered for the big stuff around 16 weeks. Mainly because DH and I wanted to start buying. After we found out the sex we registered for some more, but still need to do more.

Not going to find out the gender, and we are just going boring beige and white with a little bit of green for the nursery. I thought it was a bit early to register too, but I wasn't really sure when I should do it. Guess I will wait until sometime in March since my shower will llikely be in May.
You can start one whenever, just w/basic stuff then if you find out what you are having you can update. I would just wait to put the big stuff on. The only bad thing about telling everyone what you are having is you get some of the yuckiest looking outfits. If someone only wants to spend 10 dollars, i would rather get a pack of onesies than the ugliest outfit ever. LOL (sorry if that sounds rude, but I am sure everyone had gotten something that looks like its from the early 80's) lol
I wanted to wait until our big u/s at 20 weeks so we knew what we were having. We didn't end up registering until 24 weeks though since it was around the holidays and things were pretty crazy for us. Our showers aren't scheduled until 34 and 36 weeks so it didn't really matter that we registered a little later.
I'm due in mid-May and I'll probably register the beginning of March. We are having one shower in towards the end of April and another out of state after the baby comes.
I am now 17 weeks and have created a registry or wish list for items we want. A girlfriend of mine and I went to Babies R Us and spent over 3 hours reading reviews on products, testing the strollers out etc., so we get everything that we want and need. This has also been an easy way for us to start making purchases from our wish list and it won't come all at once! We had a great time doing it and now, whenver we have a little extra money we can buy something! And I love it so when it does come time for showers and gifts the list will have been updated a few times and not put together all at once! Hope this helps!
We're actually doing ours tomorrow. I can't wait! We actually got a bunch of stuff from a friend this weekend(pack and play, swing, crib, walker, highchair, excersaucer & a ton of clothes) so I guess we don't really have too much left ro register for.
Wow! I guess I'm early. I have already started my registry. There isn't much on it yet, but I am doing almost everything online. However, the reason I started this soon is because my MIL has already started shopping and asked me to register. (Actually, she asked me to make a registry and not tell anyone except her about it!)
Re: when to register?
personally i think it's a little early... if you're anything like me you may change your mind a couple times on colors, bedding, decor, etc....
I picked out my crib and stroller/carset travel set because my mom and MIL want to buy them for me before my regestry goes public!
But I am waiting till we find out if its pink or blue!!

Thanks for your advice everyone.
