I'm currently 32 weeks with b/g twins. I asked name advice here months ago and you were all so helpful! So here we go:

We have 2 boys Reed and Luke. I like traditional names. We are thinking Alexander (Alex) for the boy and C/Katherine (Kate) for the girl. I like that the twins would both have long names with 4 letter nick names, but they aren't too matchy.

I've done my research and know that technically both the C and K are correct, but I would like the most traditional spelling. I like the idea of Catherine better. BUT I want Kate (not Cate) as a nickname. I've gotten some side eye reactions to that. People keep asking "why not just name her Katherine?" I think she would always go by Kate and it wouldn't be an issue. What would you do?

I prefer the C spelling and have known plenty of Catherine's that still use Kate as a nickname.

That's a hard one. I would pick Katherine, but if you really prefer Catherine, I would go with that. I don't think it makes a huge difference.

I like Catherine better. If Kate Middleton is a Catherine your girl can do it too!

I've only ever know Katherines with a K. I'm surprised the poll is leaning more towards C lol. I feel like K has so many more options for nicknames too. Kate, Katie, Kay, Kat...those all look weird if you switch to C

I love Catherine but only with a C. Not a fan if it spelled with K. And I agree with the previous that you can still use Kate.

I prefer the C especially if you plan on calling. Her Catherine. If Katie or Kate is your taste go with Katherine.

Catherine is on our list and also a middle name option perhaps!

My cousin is Catherine but she's been Katie her whole life. I never thought it was odd the initial letters were different

I grew up knowing a 'Kitty' whose name was Catherine. It's what everyone called her, and I don't think it's a big deal that her nickname and actual name didn't start with the same letter.

Catherine nn Kate is completely fine. I know two who spell their full name with a C and the nn with a K (one is Kate and the other is Katie). You can also go with Cate, a la Cate Blanchette if you wanted.

I believe that Kate Middleton is actually Catherine. Remember, nicknames don't have to 100% follow the given name. Jim is a common nickname for James which has no "i" in it.

Whichever spelling you prefer- I know a ton of Catherine's and Katherine's who go by Kate or Katie and it never made any difference in my mind.

I think both ways are good. I voted for Katherine because you prefer Kate, and honestly I have never seen a Catherine use Kate, they all use Cathy.

I voted for Katherine, but that's my AoGG bias that Catherine spelled with a C just looks so smug.

But if you go with C there is no reason not to use the Kate spelling for all the reasons previously mentioned.
