Pack n Play/Playyard Question

Im working on our registry, and trying to find a play yard that is reasonably attractive and inexpensive.  We will be primarily using it for sleeping only on occasional trips and then for play when baby is older.
I like the look and price of the Cosco Funsport.

My question is do I need to have the bassinet option (which the Cosco model does not have), given that baby will possibly need to sleep in it as an infant on trips?  Or, should I go with the basic model, without the bassinet attachment since it won't be used for sleeping that often?

Re: Pack n Play/Playyard Question

  • Personally, I liked the bassinet attachment  (ours flipped over to a changing pad, which was super convenient), BUT DD slept in both the bassinet and in the actual pack and play. The only thing I would make sure of is that the floor raises to a higher setting so you aren't having to bend all the way over to get the baby in and out.
  • Loading the player...
  • I have the cosco one and its fine.... we rarely use it so it does the job. However, the floor doesn't lift and the mattress is very flimsy and not very supportive.  Now that DS is heavier he doesn't like it and if we use it again we will probably have to put some sort of additional cushioning in it. If you plan on using it consistently I would advise against it and get something a little more substantial.

  • We didn't have a bassinet model with DD. We borrowed one from a friend and that thing was a bitch to set up and take down. I bought a graco, it's super easy to set up and take down and it has the bassinet. We'll see if I like it. My whole point is, go to a baby store and try them out!

  • I'm not familiar with the Cisco. If you are using ing in your room at first, I recommend the bassinet. If it's just for trips you can probably get away without it. Depending upon what the floor is like, though you may need to purchase a playyard mattress for it.

  • If it's just for occasional trips you can probably do without and go for a basic model. You might get only one or two uses out of the bassinet part before baby grows out of it if you don't travel often.
For me personally, we are using a pack'n'play for our baby's full-time bed at home. So we are purchasing a very nice model with bassinet and changing table inserts as well as multiple mattress levels and an extra pad for comfort.
But for the purpose you're describing you really only need a basic one since it's only for occasional use.
