Re: Monday Ticker Change 8/6

  • 1) How far along are you? How big is baby?
    22 weeks! coconut.

    2) How are you feeling?
Good aside from no bras fitting my ever enlarging bust. Plus peeing in the middle of the night--I thought that was supposed to not be a thing during second tri!?! Also my sense of smell is stronger.

    3) Do you know baby's sex? Have you started showing?
girl, yes, but really only when I wear specific maternity clothes.

    4) Any appointments this week/last?
    next one on Wednesday.

    5) Rants/Raves/Questions?
This morning my daughter had a tantrum and I just couldn't handle it (no coffee yet, come on!) and my husband gave me grief for it. Dude. You deal with her, then.

    6) GTKY: Did you have a nickname growing up? If so, please share! Do you want your child to have a NN? If you have kids already, do they have NNs?
I never had one, but my husband has many. He has no middle name and most of his friends call him by his initials. DD doesn't have one either, but we have a lot of fleeting nicknames for her based on her cute habits at the time...

We're thinking of the name Pauline for this one, and I think it would lend itself to Polly or Poppy as a nn. Or Opal, but that's kind of a stretch.

  • 1) How far along are you? How big is baby?
23 weeks! Start of the 6th month. Victor is the size of a grapefruit.
    2) How are you feeling?
I still feel sick a lot of the time but I'm starting to get so excited to meet this little boy growing and moving in my tummy that I'm happy anyway.
    3) Do you know baby's sex? Have you started showing?
    Team blue and team bump
    4) Any appointments this week/last?
I have 2 this week. One tomorrow with the high risk people and one on Friday with my doctor. I'm excited for the Friday one because it means DH gets to see his baby boy on his birthday.
    5) Rants/Raves/Questions?
Last night I went out and saw a band and hung out with friends until like 1am and lived to tell the tale. Some friends of ours moved to Portland a few years ago to record and for the superior Goth music scene but they always book a tour date here in August so they can visit for DH's birthday. There was no way that I could miss it and I am so glad that I went. I had a wonderful time listening to great music and seeing friends I haven't seen in ages. It was so nice to have a night out with my husband and my friends. I kind of felt like I was glowing for the first time this pregnancy.
    6) GTKY: Did you have a nickname growing up? If so, please share! Do you want your child to have a NN? If you have kids already, do they have NNs?
I had many! My Mom called me BP or Beep or most often Bert which became Bertie Botts after Harry Potter. My dad still predominantly calls me Britty Kitty, my Grandparents always referred to me as Encyclopedia Brittania (Brittania being my true full first name) because I read constantly and had a huge vocabulary for a tiny child. All my friends called me Britta-Paige when I was a kid and a teen but it is mostly Bea now. DH has been Rabbit or White Rabbit since childhood.
Eric my step son has avoided nicknames for the most part and doesn't care for them but Lenora is more commonly called Loony or Loo or Nora (only acceptable from her favorite Aunt)
Victor is already Little V or Tiny Vic.
  • @lavashiner I love Pauline! What an elegant name with super cute nickname options! I knew a girl in school who went by Linny or Polly both so sweet.
  • @brittabatwhite ooh, I never thought of Linny, I like it!!

  • 1) How far along are you? How big is baby? I'm 21 weeks today... the app says I have an endive in there...

    2) How are you feeling? I feel good, feeling lots of baby movements today!

    3) Do you know baby's sex? Have you started showing?
    team green, and I'm showing

    4) Any appointments this week/last? I've gone for 2 anatomy scans so far and am waiting on my next appt... LO won't give them all of the images they need

    5) Rants/Raves/Questions? Work sucks these days... I'm over it!

    6) GTKY: Did you have a nickname growing up? If so, please share! Do you want your child to have a NN? If you have kids already, do they have NNs?
I didn't really have a nickname growing up... my DH was called Dogg... since we haven't settled on names for LO we don't really gave nn possibilities, either...
  • 1) How far along are you? How big is baby? 21 weeks, endive or graphite calculator

    2) How are you feeling? DS2 and I went on mommy son date yesterday to Disneyland. I am so sore. My body can't take Disneyland like it used to lol

    3) Do you know baby's sex? Have you started showing?
    yes girl, and yes showing

    4) Any appointments this week/last? had a midwife appt on Friday, went well. Went over everything with them needing to monitor me and my placenta, that shouldn't be a big deal though. They also kindly asked me to meet with the nutritionist before I left. I'm doing ok but they aren't thrilled that I haven't gained much weight which honestly at this point I thought was totally normal.

    5) Rants/Raves/Questions? none this week

    6) GTKY: Did you have a nickname growing up? If so, please share! Do you want your child to have a NN? If you have kids already, do they have NNs?
nothing crazy fun or weird. My name is Nicole and I went by Cole and that's about it

@brittabatwhite Good for you for getting out there like a rock star! DH and I are driving into the city Friday evening to meet an old friend and I feel like such a curmudgeon thinking "boy, this is gonna put me out pretty far past my bedtime..." But I'm excited to catch up and I know we'll have a great time once we're there.

    1) How far along are you
    ? How big is baby?
23 weeks, baby is as big as a... grapefruit, bunch of grapes, box of mac & cheese, Barbie doll

    2) How are you feeling?
Feeling good, but boy am I tired of going pee all the time. And definitely having a lot of weird, super-vivid dreams and constant, overwhelming cravings for sweets and pumpkin coffee.

    3) Do you know baby's sex? Have you started showing?
Boy, and very much yes. I thought I was right on track until I ran into another pregnant woman I work with who's almost 10 weeks farther along than me and her bump was smaller than mine. But she's a smaller person than me, so it is what it is, just made me feel like a giant for a minute there.

    4) Any appointments this week/last?
Just a check-up this Friday, but I called today to make sure I'm not getting hit with a glucose test during this one, the nurse said "probably not, it's still early."

    5) Rants/Raves/Questions?
Rant: I'm a stomach sleeper and still having a wicked hard time adjusting to side sleep with the Snoogle... every time I wake up my ear is in searing pain.
Rave: Feeling baby flutter around has been the most wonderful, amazing, dreamy sensation I've ever experienced. I wish I had more time to experience this feeling (like years and years!)

    6) GTKY: Did you have a nickname growing up? If so, please share! Do you want your child to have a NN? If you have kids already, do they have NNs?
I didn't really have any nicknames that stuck until I was given "sunshine" in high school (a friend called me that ironically, I was a total pessimist and the nickname was hilariously inappropriate and therefore stuck). But I do remember one of my mom's friends calling me "small fry" when I was a little girl and I thought it was the greatest thing at the time. DH gives me and our cats funny nicknames all the time, I enjoy them. No other kids yet.

  • 1) How far along are you? How big is baby? 23 weeks, grapefruit

    2) How are you feeling? Im feeling awful. I got put on labetalol for high BP and I've had the worst headaches of my life. Only thing I can contibute it to is it started when I started that medicine. I'm super depressed lately and really anxious. The fear of life threatening complications for myself and the babe are starting to freak me out. I'm trying to take it one day at a time and just do my best because most of this I can't control. On a good note my ligament pain has reduced dramatically so hopefully we can figure out these headaches so I can get to do more things before it starts to get cold outside.

    3) Do you know baby's sex? Have you started showing?
yes. We're having a girl and her name is Riley. No middle name yet, can't decide. I wanted to name my daughter Colette but my husband hated it so I compromised for my second choice and I'm excited about it. Any middle name suggestions?

    4) Any appointments this week/last? i have a follow up appointment tomorrow after work to check on things with blood pressure meds and such.

    5) Rants/Raves/Questions? we went and started a registry at buy buy baby this weekend and I was so overwhelmed and didn't feel like I got much accomplished. I've slowly been looking things up online but I am the worst about making decisions on brands and types.. shopping in general..

    6) GTKY: Did you have a nickname growing up? If so, please share! Do you want your child to have a NN? If you have kids already, do they have NNs?
my name is Jennifer so I have had the typical nicknames Jenni and Jen. People now when they first meet me don't want to call me Jennifer for some reason and will either ask if they can call me Jen or just do it..it's kind of odd..my mom always called me punk as a kid and my dad called me fat head as a baby because apparently I had a fat head... thanks dad! My husband has been calling my step son worm for years because he's a little wiggle worm so I'm sure Riley will have many nicknames in no time.
  • @kersey0208 Sorry you feel so terrible! :( I hope your headaches go away, there's not much that puts me out of commission faster than pain above the neck. And I've been working on my BabyList registry for almost 2 full months because I'm so indecisive. It's still private as I take my time researching reviews, listening to all the tips from this board, and curating what I think is maybe the best possible combination? It's definitely no easy task (and after all that, I worry about my mom going off-list like she always does and realize that other people could do the same).

  • 1) How far along are you? How big is baby? 21 Weeks - Endive

    2) How are you feeling? 2nd tri energy, this is awesome. I haven't been this productive in a long time

    3) Do you know baby's sex? Have you started showing? Boy & for sure have "popped"

    4) Any appointments this week/last? Next week on Thursday

    5) Rants/Raves/Questions? Raves, finally feeling normal enough to catch up on my housework and bullet journal.  Working on getting everything started for Christmas planning so most everything is done before baby gets here.

    6) GTKY: Did you have a nickname growing up? If so, please share! Do you want your child to have a NN? If you have kids already, do they have NNs?  I did and I hated it, they called me Mandy.  Definitely not a Mandy lol.  We picked only names that didn't have nicknames because both of us have them (my grandparents still call me that.)

People have tried giving the boys nicknames, but they haven't stuck yet, and I'm good with that.

  • @lavashiner  for my unsolicited 2 cents, i think polly sounds like a parrot, but poppy is cute. i like the name pauline! funny i didn't think of it, given that my husband is paul, named after his mother paulette.

@brittabatwhite  bertie botts! i looooove this! what's the story behind white rabbit? also, that's so sweet of your friends to always book a tour near you for your DH's birthday? what state are you guys in?
do we know why you are high risk and i just don't remember?

@kersey0208  i hope they can get your meds figured out. headaches are debilitating. and i'm sure they don't help your overall mental outlook.

  • since i h ave zero short-term memory (i blame the baby, har har) would it be helpful to add a line regarding FTM / STM / what other children you have? other important facts like high risk due to ___  or my pregnancy is being monitored for ___?

    1) How far along are you
? How big is baby?  23 weeks, a very large monster-sized grapefruit

    2) How are you feeling?  pretty good overall. a lot of pelvic pressure.

    3) Do you know baby's sex? Have you started showing?
it's another boy (my DS is three next month) and i am enormous.

    4) Any appointments this week/last?  i have a regular OB appt tomorrow

    5) Rants/Raves/Questions?   i reallllllly need to stop being lazy and start narrowing down my options for a video monitor and for a double stroller. the stroller is the daunting task, as there are just so MANY TYPES. first i have to decide the type i want, then the actual model. the monitor we need to get asap because we want to get one and set it up before we move my son to his new room on his birthday next month. when he as the freedom of his big boy bed, i know he's going to be all over the place and i will feel more comfortable being able to see what the heck he is doing (right now we have an audio monitor), especially since he will be on the top floor of the townhouse and it is a hike to get up there

    6) GTKY: Did you have a nickname growing up? If so, please share! Do you want your child to have a NN? If you have kids already, do they have NNs?
no nicknames here. i am pretty anti-nicknames, myself. my DH is too. at least we agree? it has made choosing boy names very difficult because we are trying to avoid the ones that get automatically shortened / NNd out of habit, a la jennifer's complaints above! but when you actually think about it, that throws out a whole lot of names.

  • @anewadventure do you have a specific budget for a double stroller? When I was pregnant with DS2 I got the Baby Jogger City Select (Amazon and albeebaby occasionally have some pretty good deals on it), and it one of the best baby purchases I've made to date. It's very high quality, so easy to push and maneuver with the weight of two kids, and has a ton of configurations. We now have the glider board attached to the back so I can tote all 3 kids around if none of them feel like walking. Just my two cents from personal experience :). I have to say I haven't tried any others to compare though. On that note, our first baby video monitor was a Summer Infant one, and we went through two and they both broke. Just stopped working within a year. Not sure if it's a coincidence or a quality thing, but we will go with a different brand thins time, probably like the Samsung BrightVIEW or something similar.
  • @anewadventure I don't think parrot right away, but I do keep thinking of Polly Pocket since I am a child of the late eighties/early nineties!!
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @ngarciabyu  we haven't even gotten as far as budget. we have a single BOB revolution right now, and love it soooo much. the double BOB seems super wide, and is of course very expensive. we can't even decide if we want a double jogger, or a double that isn't a jogger. if not, then do we want it to be two-across or not? do we need a full seat for our older DS or just a bench and standing platform? i have a lot of questions but have put little mental energy towards narrowing it down. DS will be three next month but i don't have a feel for how long kids tend to actually use strollers. on the one hand he is big enough to walk but on the other, he can get tired and then dragging him around without a seat will be awful.

  • I am super late to the party, sorry ladies.

    1) How far along are you
? How big is baby? 20weeks, I think that is something like a can of soda

    2) How are you feeling? really good which is wonderful

    3) Do you know baby's sex? Have you started showing?
nope still team green, but definitely team showing

    4) Any appointments this week/last? I had my anatomy scan yesterday and all went well other than they ordered the regular anatomy scan not the more detailed "your mother is an old lady scan" So I will have that one next month. I did learn that my placenta is anterior which is probably a big reason why I don't feel a ton of movement.

    5) Rants/Raves/Questions? we refinished a dresser for the twins room, now we just have to switch it out for the one currently there which will go to the babies room I'm not sure how I'm half way... time needs to slow down!

    6) GTKY: Did you have a nickname growing up? If so, please share! Do you want your child to have a NN? If you have kids already, do they have NNs?
nope no NN for me. the twins have all kinds of NN mostly just random variations of their names that have stuck.

@brittabatwhite I'm impressed you were out so late and lived! I would be struggling!
@lavashiner the pee thing is a whole pregnancy thing... as for bras, I love the bravado nursing bras and for larger sizes they are fairly accommodating for growth but still supportive....
@ngarciabyu sorry about the weight gain... I was wondering if my MW would say anything since I've already gained 20lbs but she didn't. I try to eat fairly healthy and only splurge a little but still the weight seems to be adding up. I think sometimes our bodies just feel like they need more reserves...
@kersey0208 sorry your still not feeling good. I hope they get the BP stuff straightened out. Have you talked to anyone about your anxiety?  Maybe getting some of those fears out will help you feel better.
@anewadventure I like the idea of the additional question. I have a mountain buggy duo which is a side by side jogging stroller but its not any wider than their single stroller (25 inches) and can accommodate a car seat (if you get the attachment).  We love ours. (I also looked at the city select but for me it was more awkward to fold up)

  • @anewadventure thanks they're going to keep my BP meds the same for a couple more weeks to try to determine if it's the cause or just takes time getting used to. The nickname thing is rather annoying..and I agree eliminating names that default to a nick name really shrinks the pool of names!

@wabash15. Thanks! I haven't seen anyone for my anxiety since I got pregnant. I was on antidepressant and anxiety meds prior. Had to stop the anxiety meds and then decided to go off the antidepressant at week 8 they said it was my choice I could stay on it but it did have potential risks especially in 3rd tri. I'm thinking about therapy again it's a good idea! Also thinking about seeing a chiropractor maybe help with headaches and overall feel better. I've never been but I've heard good things.
  • @djd0404 thanks!! So many products so little time! I know for sure my mom will go directly off the registry so I'm trying to make sure it's what I want. She had made us email links or screenshots to our Christmas/bday gifts for years haha! Also, I'm a stuggling stomach sleeper too. I got a snoogle but returned it. I think I needed the xl one for tall people or something I googled it once but didn't end up purchasing. Mine was too short and pulled on my neck..or maybe I wasn't using it right..so I'm just been using a body pillow and it's not working out so well!
  • @kersey0208 I have not tried it but I have heard wonderful things about acupuncture and helping with headaches

i've been going for about three months (i was desperate for anything to help with morning sickness this time around). i don't think it helped my nausea but it has been great for my headaches! it's also very relaxing.

  • @anewadventure Apparently DH's teeth were a little bucky before he grew into them. It started out as a teasing nickname but he kind of embraced it because he loves Alice in Wonderland.
    We live in Nebraska.
My pregnancy is being monitored because I have an SCH and placenta previa. Both are looking pretty ok right now.

@kersey0208 I am 5'1" and this pillow feels perfectly made for my height so I am not surprised that it isn't comfy for normal heighted ladies. I thought I'd have to figure out what to do with the extra length and that it would just take up too much space and neither was true.
I have had migraines my whole life but nothing as dreadful as pregnancy migraines. I just had to cut a foot and a half of my hair off (no worries it is still past my shoulders) because the weight of my hair was making them worse. Between hormones and vitamins my already massive hair had doubled in thickness and grown 4 inches since my bfp.

  • @kersey0208 I actually tucked the top part of my snoogle (the smaller curve) down inside the cover because I sleep with super-soft pillows and the snoogle was waaaaay too hard for me. Like, instant neck pain. So now it looks like a big "J", with the bottom curve between my legs and the long straight part under my side/belly like it's a body pillow.

Amazing the things we have to do to stay comfy!
