When will you be finding out babies sex

Hi everyone.  So I wanted to post to see where everyone else stands on finding out babies sex.
1. Will you be finding out at all?
2. Will you wait until your anatomy scan at about 20 weeks to find out?
3. Will you use early prediction methods? (SneakPeek test results, early blood work, gender prediction kits, chinese gender predictor,etc...)

And please, if anyone has used any of the early prediction methods, how did they work?

Re: When will you be finding out babies sex

  • 20 weeks.
  • We will find out the the anatomy scan. I want to wait, but H wants to know. Essentially, if it is a girl we will have a 4th kid, if a boy I think we will be done. I grew up with two sisters at a similar age gap that we will have and it sucked for my little sister to always be left out. I think if it is a boy it will be different if a girl, I want her to have a buddy.

Personally, I like waiting until the mid-way point to find out. Brings a fun surprise to the middle of pregnancy.

I can't NOT find out. I'm one of those really impatient people who wants to know ASAP! I have a friend who just recently used the sneakpeek test so I'm really curious to try that. With my son we did an elective ultrasound at 15 weeks but I know that at that early on they can be wrong.. especially if it's a girl. If I decide not to do the sneakpeek then we will just wait until the anatomy scan. Side note though... the Chinese Predictor was right about my son.
  • I won't be finding out.  I didn't find out last time either.  There are only so many good surprises that we get in life!

We had the NT scan at 12 or 13 weeks and the tech thought it was a girl because of some line she saw. We did the Harmony test for chromosomal abnormalities at the same time. It can also tell you the sex for singleton births (make sure the sex box is checked!) We chose to find out the sex. Harmony said it was a girl, confirmed at 18 week A/S, and indeed when she was born she was a girl.

  • I'll be waiting until 21 weeks since my doctor likes to wait an extra week, I've heard of sneak peak but have heard false boy predictions are somewhat common. So I'll just impatiently wait. We aren't doing harmony or any type testing like that. I think it can be fun do do the predict test/quiz things but I don't put stock in them, the Chinese predict method was wrong with DS

  • We will be finding out ASAP. At my appointment at the end of the month I'm going to ask about the NIPT. If we don't do that, probably do 15 weeks at one of those boutique places. So far Chinese chart says girl and my DH has a bunch of female relatives who have April birthdays (I know this is not scientific at all just would be an interesting coincidence if it is a girl).

  • We will be finding out the sex via Panorama screening around the 10-12 week mark (blood draw at 10 weeks, results take about 2 weeks to come in). For me, it's no less of a surprise if you find out at 12 weeks versus 20 or at birth.

"Gender" prediction kits that you can buy over the counter are a farce. I mean, everyone has a 50% chance of being correct, right?
  • With DS we weren't going to find out at DH request, but I really wanted to know.  I used the OTC gender prediction kit where you pee in the cup and if it turns a dark green its a boy. Well, it turned almost black so it was predicting boy. Chinese gender chart also said boy and I had a gut feeling from the beginning it was boy. we didn't do any blood tests to confirm boy, but then at our anatomy scan, even though we told the US tech we didn't want to know, she must have forgot and told us it was a boy.

This time around chinese gender chart says girl and I have an inkling its a girl.  I think we both want to find out if its a boy or a girl, but I don't think ill waste the money on the OTC predictors this time.  kmalls said:

I think your totally right! its no less of a surprise if you find out sooner or later. That is such a good point.
  • I we will be finding out for sure.  The Chinese predictor says boy when I had my DD it said girl.  So here is to hoping that's right.

My next door neighbor had a fun gender predictor that she used on me and it was right back when I was pregnant with my DD.  She ask me to old out my hands if they are palm down it's a boy because they give give give and if it's palms up it's a girl because they take take take.

Either way there is a 50% chance any of these could be right.

  • We are not finding out. I always said I wanted to but DH was super against it and after talking about it a lot we decided to wait until birth. It's exciting! This will also hopefully prevent people from buying lots of unnecessary gender-specific stuff. While we'd appreciate a gift of any kind, not everyone wants a pink explosion everywhere if it's a girl, and vice versa. All about the neutrals. Decorating the nursery will be a fun challenge.

  • @frenchiekinplusone we did gray/stripes and accented with teal/seafoam with DD arrived last time around.  It was perfect and I'm planning to do something gray based again this time around but maybe with navy!

  • @ekendall09 we will probably do something similar! Those are most of our go-to colors in general so the baby's room will probably just blend in with the rest of our house  :)

I'm way too much of a planner not to know but my DH wishes we would wait until the birth. Not sure when or how we will find out because Idk how my doctors office typically does things. My friend found out real early from a blood test she had done? Depending on what options we have I will want whatever can happen the soonest!

ETA- I totally think I'm having a boy though. Just intuition.
  • Definitely finding out! With DS I found out at the 12-week ultrasound. I'd love for that to happen again but I know it's a long shot.

Chinese predictor says girl and the acne I've broken out with says girl.

  • @Dumbgurl04 I always heard girls steal your beauty. I know it's an old wives tale, but with DS I had the clearest skin I've ever had in my life and now I'm breaking out like a teenager.

  • @kaymaroo now I'm trying to interpret my breakouts!
  • We'll probably find out at the A/S like last time.
  • I can't decide if I want to find out or not, and I haven't even asked DH what he wants to do yet. I think I'm just waiting for the ultrasound tomorrow to talk about stuff like that. With my oldest daughter and son, we found out. With my youngest, we didn't find out and that was fun. I like both equally, so we'll see. We would wait until our A/S at 20 wks.
  • Yeah I have heard that too about girls stealing the beauty and boys make you glow @kaymaroo.  Also I craved salty during my last pregnancy and usually salty cravings mean boy.

  • 1. Will you be finding out at all? Too type A not to.
    2. Will you wait until your anatomy scan at about 20 weeks to find out? I prefer to do it that way, but since I will be AMA, I probably will find out through genetic testing.
    3. Will you use early prediction methods? (SneakPeek test results, early blood work, gender prediction kits, chinese gender predictor,etc...). DNA test.  However, with how my HCG has been acting this go-around, I am convinced it is a boy.

  • I will most likely find out at the anatomy scan, which I had at 17 weeks with my son.
  • Team green all the way. We waited until #1 was born to learn he was a boy and will do the same with #2.  That moment when he was born and DH and I were the first to see what he was was amazing.  The adrenaline of 9 months of anticipation coursing thought our veins as I pulled him from the water. Ahhh making my heart race just thinking about it now.  <3<3<3 Also I really wanted a girl and feel like had I learned he was a boy midway though I would have dealt with a little bit of disappointment. But, after 17 hours of labor, pushing that baby out, and I had him in my arms perfect and healthy there was nothing but pure love for my baby boy. Never disappointed in the least.

  • I don't think there is anything wrong with disappointment @dirtyboots.  I had a little sadness when I found I was having a girl since I wanted a boy. I hated all the frilly girly clothes and how everything is pink.  When I gave birth to her i felt nothing but pure love and joy for her.  Even now wouldn't trade her for anything, and I don't feel bad that for a day I was sad.

  • We will find out at the anatomy scan again! I don't believe any of the other tests (outside of the doctors office) work but they are tempting lol. People ask me all the time why I wouldn't want to wait and be surprised which always confuses me because I'm like... I was surprised when I found out lol

  • Anatomy scan as far as I know, unless something randomly changes before then.
  • We will find out at our anatomy scan which will be around 20 weeks. I'm type A and it would be very stressful for me to wait.
  • We are not finding out. We didn't with DD either and it was exciting. It seems like it bothered other people way more than it bothered us not to know last time!
  • We're also team green. MH doesn't care either way, and I think it would be fun to have it be a surprise, plus I would really like to avoid the super gendered clothes and baby gear (both girls stuff and boys stuff).

Yessss!  I have to know, lol.  I don't like gender neutral stuff at all, so I want to be prepared.

    2. Will you wait until your anatomy scan at about 20 weeks to find out?
Most likely.  But that seems forever away!

    3. Will you use early prediction methods? (SneakPeek test results, early blood work, gender prediction kits, chinese gender predictor,etc...)
I don't think so.  Maybe the just for fun ones.  The Chinese chart was wrong for me.  One test that was right on all my friends, was the test where you tie a string to your wedding ring and hold it over your wrist, and if it swings circular or side to side, it means boy or girl (I forget which is which).

  • @psuxray07 YAY glad i''m not the only one that loves the pinks and purples or blues. I do like the gender neutral stuff but not exclusively. If I have a girl I want to dress her up while I have a change because if she's anything like me or her half-sister that will only last until about age 6 and then it's going to be jeans and t-shirts all day everyday. Which I'm ok with but I want to have fun with it while I can.

I wanted to be team green but DH doesn't have the patience so we're probably going to find out. I want to do it at 15 weeks at an early ultrasound place. I've found it helps me connect with the baby more when I can get a glimpse into something personal about them vs "there's a baby in there".

last time, we did the cell free DNA test to screen for genetic disorders and the bonus was the sex ;) also the fun Chinese calendars always said boy and lo and behold, BOY!
  • @kindbytealikat  Haha yes!  When I was little, I was a tomboy, but around high school, I went girly again, lol.  I'm hoping for another boy (but still will be ecstatic either way) - but aside from the clothes, I like to plan out the nursery theme :)  My little man's room is monsters.  His walls are bright blue and green mixed and brighter colored monster stuff.  It's so boyishly cute, lol.  And if it's a girl, definitely doing pink and white (my fav colors)!

  • We were team green the first time. It was awesome and I loved waiting until that moment in the delivery room with just DH and I. I knew it was a boy in my heart the whole time. DH wants to wait again and I'm on the fence.

it really pisses people off when you don't find out, and I found secret pleasure on it. Like why does me not finding out the sex of my baby affect you so personally? I'm the worst.
We didn't find out last time either, and it really bothered some people! And that is oddly enjoyable!! When other people say they are finding out, it doesn't bother me. So I don't really get why some people get so upset.
Also, everyone, and I mean EVERYONE we know thought we were having a boy, so it was extra exciting for my husband and I when it was a girl! Everyone being wrong also brought me joy. I guess I am the worst too! ;)
