@steph30032 I actually feel ok about the name Jonathan. I agree that Johnny is cute for little ones and John or Jonathan for adults is a good strong name. I told my H we would consider it for a first name even though I'm not in love with it. I probably wouldn't do the initials like JR. And Randall is such a 70s name, isn't it?? I would love to find an updated or just better name related to Kurt or Randall but there may be no such thing. And I don't really need the name to start with a J. All that to say.. no idea what we are going to do at this point. If it was a girl, she would probably be Jane or Lauren.
@trudytudy would you be opposed to and initial type nickname? If you're wanting to do the J theme for all your kids, you could do Jonathan for first and Randall for middle and the baby could be JR or if you're not worried about a theme you could switch it and have baby be RJ. Also though I like Jonathan, baby Johnny would be super cute. And it's a strong name that he could use as an adult someday. Nothing is worse then when Parents give kids "baby names" and then one day you have an adult forced to have a name that only fits babies.
The bolded. All of this... no offense if you have a kid named this, but I hate seeing little girls named Paisley and the like. It's a forever 3 year old to me and I don't think I could take an adult with that name seriously...
Yeah it's like Kelsi and Kayley and all the creatively spelled things late Millenials were stuck with. If your name is begging for a heart over the "i" I will probably have a hard time taking you seriously as an accountant or lawyer.
Kailey and Hayley have both aged better than I thought they would. My cousin married a Kailey and she is a mother of five and I don't think of her name as "baby" anymore. I think experiences help, when you know adult Paisleys it'll be easier to imagine adult Paisleys.
My mom felt the same about her name (Lori) but now it is a mom or even grandma name!
We are Team Green. I think we've already decided on Zeke for a boy and Zoe for a girl. Last name starts with a Z and we like the double Zs. At first I wasn't sold on Zeke... thought BF was just messin with me! But the more I thought about it and more feedback I got from others, decided it's pretty darn cute. Plus if we have a boy and he's anything like his father, Zeke will be a fun and fitting name for his personality
@ReadytoRun77 DH has a friend named Zeke and I LOVE his name!! His is actually short for Ezekiel, though. Didn't know that until I was addressing wedding invitations. haha
DH and I have been bouncing some names around. We're struggling! Right now we're both loving Anderson, nickname Anders. The problem is that our last name can also be a first name, so we're afraid people might mix the names up. Also, his middle name will be my maiden name (Ford), so essentially he'll have three names that are last names (but have the potential to be first names too). Thoughts? Too confusing? Anderson Ford R. (Last name is two syllables)
I love the name Anderson. It's been on my list for a long time. Also love the idea of using Anders as a NN. But I am a sucker for last names as first.... so you're speaking my language here.
Me: 40, DH: 35 / Married: 2009; TTC #1: 2013
2013 - 2015: 5 pregnancies —> 5 miscarriages
TTCAL with RE (RPL specialist): February 2016
2016: 3 medicated TI cycles —> 3 medicated IUI cycles: All BFN
@cyanope I had two first names before I got married, aside of my middle of course. People always got it wrong! My maiden name is a feminine first name while my first name is recognizable but not common. People goofed it all the time. I don't regret my name, just sharing that your child may encounter that too. I do like your name choice though!
I'm strongly considering Jonathan William. These are both family names and I like John bc of the biblical relation. I might want to call him Will though. My other kids already have J names so this one can be the same but I was be jumbling their names as much maybe. Is Will super common from everyone perspective? I know William is pretty high on the SS website. I don't want my kid to have a name as common as Sarah was for our generation (no offense to the Sarahs) but I realize these two names aren't exactly unusual.
@cyanope Anderson Ford R. is what I would jokingly refer to as a "Law Firm Baby" (The Law Offices of Anderson Ford R.) Heehee. I don't think it's a problem, but I do chuckle a little bit sometimes at the law firm.
I don't think people will mix it up that often, we are used to surname names.
@cyanope I just married into a last name that could pose as a first name. My DH has a first name that could be a last name and a last name that could be a first name. Buying a house has been so painful bc of all the correcting I've had to do for his paperwork! I tend to think multiple last names would make it somewhat easier - at least people might ask?
@trudytudy love the name Will. It's on my list but doesn't go great with our last name (William does but Will doesn't, and I'm a big nickname fan). I honestly don't think it's too popular but I'm a FTM so my interaction with LOs is limited.
Alright ladies...I need some opinions please. DH jumped the "J" ship last night and decided on ONE girl name. I was SHOCKED. And I love it.
Kori , plain and simple. His other choice.....Kolbi which I like, I'm just not sure about them sounding too much alike when you're yelling at them. LOL thoughts?
My pick is Kami but it's not my favorite. He wants to stick to the K---i's I couldn't believe it!
@britmanering73 I love Kori! I do think that Kolbi and Kori sound a lot alike, so if you're sticking with K names that end in I, I'd use a different vowel. While I think Kami is cute, it makes me think of underwear (sorry!)
DD is Nora Ann and DS is Connor Williams. All except Connor are family names. We are still on the fence about finding out the sex of this one so for now here's what we have for each:
Hadley - I love the nickname Haddie and apparently Hadley means "heather field" and um my name is Heather so kinda cute Caroline - my mom's name Emily - just because its cute and classic I love the middle name Mae and think it would go well with all the above choices. My birthday is in May too so it kinda means something.
James - DH says this name is cursed since both my in-laws had brothers named James who died at a youngish age Patrick - one of my brothers' names and also my grandfather's name so not sure if that's already too many in the family or not Owen - just because I like it! I like James for a middle name and might be able to sell DH on that if we can't use it for a first name bc of the curse..
There is an Anders in my previous bmb, I think it's a great name
Love Will and Liam as nn for William. (Random, my brother and his gf are William and Kate, I think it's so cute)
@britmanering73, those are both cute. Kolbi makes me instantly think of cheese though. I knew a Coby in school and have always liked that name, but now it has such a strong celeb connection.

@hminer4 - i LOVE the name Hadley. it's my niece's name, otherwise i would've considered it for one of our babies! that said, i don't think it goes as well as a sibset with Nora and Connor. Caroline and Emily would both fit well. All three boys names go with Nora and Connor. Owen is great, but I love James (i wanted to name a son James just so i could call him Jamie!)
@Mudge85 Love Pierce! There's a little boy I know with that name and it's just such a good name to grow with. I have always liked Olivia too, but as a teacher I just can't. Great choices!
Soooo what do you do if the name you like is a name a close friend or family member has already named their child? There have been 3 names DH and I like and all 3 family or friends have given their daughters.
We liked Cali for the simple fact that DH and I met in California. And we both liked that name before his brother had a kid. But his brother named their girl Kaliyah (not sure how they spell it) and nick named her Kali (pronounced Cali).
We like Charlie but DH's best friend named his daughter Charlotte and they call her Charlie. Luckily his bf is completely ok with sharing the name (but now Im not so hot on Charlie)
And the last is Scarlett. Which we both really love but my cousin named her daughter Scarlett. This isnt a cousin Im super close with though.
Do I forget these names and move on or keep them up for consideration?
@livingoffpbjs I say name your child what you want to name your child. The only "issue" would be if the girls will be raised closely together, but even then, that's not always an "issue" for people. I have a cousin that has the same name as my sister, and it was never a big deal.
@livingoffpbjs Kali might be too close to Cali, because that'll be her first cousin. But if they're not people you're going to see all the time, I'd say go ahead and repeat. Your child and your cousin's child are second cousins... that's not really close. I almost never saw my second cousins growing up, did you?
My nieces have a cousin on the other side (the daughter of my sis-in-law's sister) named Fiona. Fiona was at the top of our list and we thought that was definitely distant enough so it shouldn't be a problem (maybe a little confusing to my nieces who have to remember which cousin Fiona they are talking about, but I'm sure they'd have different nicknames.) But then my brother and sister-in-law took in her sister's kids on a semi permanent basis, so NOW it's too close I think. If she lives with my brother, we'll see her at all major holidays and she'll be like a niece to me.
@cyanope OMFG I love Anderson. Brilliant. Love love. @livingoffpbjs I love Cali for you because it is an awesome name and has so much meaning. @hminer4 My DD is Emily and hilariously people always tell me how much they love the name. Simple and sweet! @britmanering73 Loving Kori!
So I have been avoiding this thread like the plague the last two months because I had made no progress mentally, but after the anatomy scan I had major inspiration. Reading all of your amazing names is inspiring too! Including the full name here for opinions. First, I did not take DH's last name; I kept mine... but I agreed to let our children have his last name (I seriously think his dad would die on the spot if I told him the carrier of his bloodline--lol OMG I can't believe he cares/thinks that way... his only son's only son--wouldn't have his last name). Second, I HATE the middle name (mentioned earlier), but it was a compromise... DH wanted it as LO's first name (no). So I don't love the full name BUT I think I am digging where we are at with the first name. Please share your thoughts; I am totally fine with hearing it's awful, ladies:
Ellis Rex Roberts
^First name has family meaning for DH and political meaning for both of us... an indirect but lifelong reminder to LO that his parents were not on board with a certain administration... give us all the refugees and immigrants
@EmilyLove25 - I love it! Especially Ellis. I would totally end up calling him Ellisaurus Rex around the house (which I hope doesn't turn you off from the name).
@EmilyLove25 DS is Ellis so obviously I think it's a great name. Middle names aren't a huge deal in my opinion but I don't think it sounds bad together.
@gusgus14 not gonna lie, I now kinda want to call my little guy Ellisaurus rex
@EmilyLove25 Ellis is one of my most favorite names ever!!!!! It is a family name - Ellis Randall Adams somewhere back in the line, but DH knew an Ellis in High School that was a complete douche, so he nixed it a long time ago. It makes me sad it's not a contender for us, but I actually love it with Rex and think @gusgus14's NN idea is totally awesome.
Not to be morbid, and DH doesn't even know it, but I refer to each of the babies we lost by a name I chose for them, and Ellis is #2. I figured if I wasn't going to get to use it in real life.....

I love Ellis but I love Rex more haha. I really wanted Rhett if we were having a boy. Good thing we are having a girl because that couldve turned into a big argument haha
@EmilyLove25 I love the name Ellis / the reasoning behind it!! I do like Rex, too - but that's because I had a fantastic boss who really rook a chance on 24 year old me, named Rex. I'll forever be thankful to him because he really helped me, so I like the name
I'm so excited that we FINALLY decided on names!! (We find out the sex September 1st).
Girl: Harper Grace Boy: Lucas Edward
The girl name was easy enough to agree on. I love it and have for years, and coincidentally, her name conisits of the last names of DH two favorite baseball players so he was thrilled, lmao. The boy name took months to come up with and is the result of both of us going through the top 500 names of 2016 and circling the top 20 names we both liked. We only had three in common and Lucas was one. Although DH wants to spell it Lukas. I'm still dealing with that battle. Haha
@steph30032 DS is Lucas, too. It's an awesome name. We had a hard time coming up with names last time, and that was one of the few we agreed upon. We toyed momentarily with the idea of calling him Luke as a NN, but it never stuck. He was always Lucas.
And Harper has always been a favorite of mine, too!
