SIL is finally moved out...she left me with the cleaning, which was ridiculous and incrediby gross (used tampon aplicators, rodent feces and urine everywhere, a petrified McD's chicken patty on the floor, etc) but on the bright side, DD now has her own room for the first time ever and DS will get to move from the cradle to DD's old crib. Wish us luck, it's going to be our first night and I'm hoping it goes smoothly. DD is currently playing in the bath and will be off to bed soon.
@OmegaRose3 Ew! Nasty! You should bring all of that over to her new place, lol! Good luck with DD! I hope you both are snoozing the night away!
A huge booger has me up in the MOTN for the first time in a loooooong time. It was blocking DS2's entire left nostril! It required full lights on and multiple attempts of bulb suctioning.
@OmegaRose3 Omg, that is awful! At least she's gone now. I hope DD had a good night in her own room.
@mrsrep123 That sounds like an intense booger! I haven't had to deal with any of those yet, luckily.
June had her two month appointment yesterday and is now 13 lbs 1 oz. I can't believe how fast she's growing! I just switched her into 3-6 month clothes this morning.
Do any of you ladies have the Sit Me Up? It's like a soft version of a bumbo to help them learn to sit up on their own. They've been really popular over in the FB group. I got one and love it so far. Juniper seems to really enjoy looking around lately and my arms get tired. Just wanted to pass it along in case anyone else might want to get one. They're $25 on Amazon.
@starphish18 it was intense. Poor Rowan kept waking up because he couldn't breathe right. You're lucky June hasn't had booger issues, lol. Like June, Rowan also cleared 13 lbs at his 2 month check up. How long is she? We're in 3-6 month sizes too! Thanks for ther Sit Me Up suggestion. We got a Bumbo for DS1 and used it once. The leg openings were too small.
@mrsrep123 She's 23.5 inches. So I think they said that was around 75 percentile for height, whereas weight was around 84. She seems to grow out of clothes at the crotch first...haha. Snaps start straining over the diaper. By the way, I'm not sure if I ever mentioned this, but Rowen was our number 1 choice for boy's name, so I always smile when I see your Rowan mentioned.
@starphish18 she's pretty long! Rowan was 23.75 in. I literally lol when I read "grow out of clothes at the crotch first." Same with my guy! I don't believe you mentioned that about Rowen being your #1 choice for a boy's name. I do like your choice in names. I remember you didn't want to reveal your DD's name prior to her arrival so I couldn't wait until your birth announcement. Juniper is such a lovely and original name and her nickname June is cool!
@lrwardrop DD takes 3.5-4 oz per feeding and she is usually hungry again before 3 hours. When I am at home I can pump while I work so I don't even notice the length of the 15 minutes. However when I come into the office and have to go to a separate lactation room those 15 minutes seem like the longest ever.
I looked at the sit me up yesterday and decided to get it for DD. I mentioned before that she was referred to PT because she is showing a preference/flat spot on her head. Well her pediatrician said not to worry and that once she was sitting up more it would go away. The seat looks a better than the bumbo to me, in regards to support. So I figure she might as well try it out.
RE: leaps, DD handles them well, but she does tend to sleep a lot more and I end up worrying that she is not eating enough since she sleeps so much. However when she does wake up, she tends to nurse for double the time.
I feel like I notice the developmental changes during leaps, but it doesn't seem like she's necessarily fussier or anything. At least, not as long as we're adjusting based on what she seems to need. For instance, with her current leap, she just wants to observe things a lot more, so when we hold her upright and walk around, she's happy and calm.
Update: I am beyond happy to have my house to myself and have it clean again like how it ought to be. DD is doing really well in her own room and it's set up so cute. She seems to really like it and when I suprised her with her own room she tucked herself into her bed right away and was laughing the whole time. It's nice having DS in a crib now instead of the cradle, he's starting to sleep for longer stretches which helps with my overall sanity. As far as SIL, I took pictures of the room before I cleaned it to document the mess and any damages and jokingly told DH I'm going to print them off and make a scrapbook for her if she pisses me off again.
DD is 5 months old today. I don't know if it's because she is our last baby, but it really seems to me like time is going by so quickly. We plan start solids in one month, and I am tempted to try BLW this time around or even trying more homemade mushy food. Then I get lazy thinking about it.
@mcvgal I did a modified version of BLW (kid took 11 months to get teeth so it was a combo of purees and soft foods) with DD and definitely recommend trying it, it was exciting to see her try new foods and experience different textures.
For those of you wit the Sit Me Up Seats, what's the benefit of it vs a bouncy chair? We've never used a Bumbo chair either and I was never quite sure what the point behind them was.
@OmegaRose3 I have a feeling it will be several months before DD's teeth come in. So I may end up doing some purees and soft foods too. Do you have any recommendations for first foods? DS1 had avocados as his first food and ate them all the time until he suddenly stopped around age 2. DS2 started with smashed carrots and now doesn't eat them either. I've been overweight most of my life and I really want to introduce DD to a variety of healthy foods so she can start to make better choices at an earlier age than me.
@mcvgal our favorites were always sweet potatoes, squash, banana, oatmeal, plain pasta or with homemade red sauce when they get older, shredded meat (chicken especially), soft rolls, steamed cauliflower, rice We tried to give her a baby friendly variation of whatever we had to eat so we always kept the saying "Can I eat this without teeth? Is this easy to swallow without chewing entirely?"
@OmegaRose3 what an awesome update! So glad your DD is adjusting well! If your SIL pisses you off enough, you could post the before and after pictures online. Anyone who knows she used to live with you will see just how gross and nasty she is, lol.
I give it up to full time SAHMs. For the last week, MH has been leaving early and getting home late preparing our new house for our move. That means, I'm left juggling a toddler and infant ALONE. It's been extra difficult because my toddler will start crying/screaming if he doesn't see me. So with a two-story home, there have been lots of tears. Not to mention cooking breakfast with a hungry toddler crying waking up the infant you just pout to sleep to cook breakfast. To get a break, I drive to my mom's house so her and my stepdad can help with the kiddos.
@OmegaRose3 The Sit Me Up is to help them learn how to sit up on their own, same as the Bumbo. I like the Sit Me Up because it's soft and has higher support for the neck. I find that it's good for this stage where she wants to look around constantly but doesn't have the full neck control to be stable in something like a jumper or exersaucer. She'd love for me to just carry her around upright all day so she can look around, but my arms get way too tired for that. So I love this seat!
I used to put the sit me up seat on my counter while I was in the kitchen and baby would like to watch me. I also fed baby in it and it was perfect. Babies like to sit up and look around.
My name is mcvgal and I am a prime-aholic. That being said I am upset with Amazon because I was looking forward trying out the sit me up today. Instead, my delivery is delayed until Monday.
Probably a stupid random, but dressing two kids can really Suck. I feel like DD's wardrobe is all worn out, bummy-looking summer clothes and DS has a bunchanged of cute onesies that still look very new and I feel a weird guilt about it. I try to dress them similar as far as casualness etc and it's just frustrating because I feel like I'm constantly trying to avoid DS looking super nice and DD looking dishevled.
@omegarose3 I, too, have a little bit of guilt when it comes to clothing. We saved everything from DS1 and planned on using it again if we had another boy. Since we had another boy, I've still been buying new items just for him because I was starting to feel bad that he was in all of his brother's hand-me-downs in his pictures. (I took at least one photo a day of DS1 to create a "year"book of his first year and am doing the same for Rowan.) They look so similar, that if it weren't for different backgrounds or faded clothing in the photos, it'd be difficult to distinguish who's who! Lol.
Re: Weekly Randoms 7/31-8/6
Yay she finally moved, good luck with DD! Hopefully she will sleep good and enjoy her new room.

So far, Rowan seems to like to sleep through his. I'm hoping this pattern continues as the next leap he'll enter can last a few weeks.

My LO is terrible during leaps. Overall he is a pretty fussy baby, just like my first.
Also why is each pumping session the longest 15 minutes ever....

I'm 13 weeks pp and I tried using a tampon but it was very uncomfortable. I DO NOT like using pads but I guess I have to for now. Ugh!
