i am currently about 6 weeks pregnant. I know my milk supply has lessened and I am getting bad nursing aversions with nursing DD2 age 19 months. How can I start to wean her if she is obsessed? I keep telling her he milk is almost gone but she doesn't care and it's just getting so uncomfortable nursing a toddler. She also has been getting up more at night to nurse which is killing me and making me so tired. Suggestions advice? What worked for you?
Re: Pregnant and weaning
I got pregnant with my daughter when my son was a year old, and he was still nursing, although by that point, we were mostly at a single bedtime nursing session...he was eating enough table food that he'd dropped all daytime nursing, and we gradually fazed out morning nursing in favor of breakfast. Middle of the Night comfort nursing pretty much only happened during teething time. So we were really just down to the one getting ready for bed nursing session. I kept it going through my first trimester, and by then, he was just as happy to be held as to be actively nursing at bedtime. So he more or less self-weaned at 15 months. We did give him a sippy cup option, but he didn't stay interested in that for long. It's the rest of the ritual, the holding, bedtime story, song, etc. that seems most important, not the feed.
