Fitness check in 8/3!

Almost there mamas!  Share what you have been doing to keep active and healthy.  Also, what have been some of your go to healthy snacks?

Re: Fitness check in 8/3!

  • Still keeping up with my twice weekly cross fit workouts and once a week yoga session.  Also, I try to take a daily mile or so walk with my DS and lab if I did not do any other exercise that day.  It has been so beautiful out lately.  I am really looking forward to see if my constant activity during this pregnancy make s labor faster/ easier this time around since I was not active with my DS.

I am now stocking my fridge with grapes, cantaloupe, cherries and other fresh fruits that are in season so I can just grab and go when I need a snack.  Also, walnuts and peanut butter toast with banana slices, chia seeds and a sprinkle of cinnamon have been my go to almost daily (sometimes twice daily!)

  • I've been slowing down with my workouts because I've had some pelvic pain but still trying! Doing weights and treadmill mostly with some yoga mixed in when the instructor is around. I feel much less flexible and mobile in the last week so it's been tougher.

I keep lots of fruit and Greek yogurt in my fridge. Unfortunately there's usually chocolate in my desk. Haha. I have a nightly snack of raspberry leaf tea and dates to help with labour. We'll see if that works again!

  • @mynamestaken I have my red raspberry leaf tea ready to go but decided to wait until 37 weeks to start.  How long have you been drinking it nightly? Have you noticed any times that it will bring on BH or regular contractions?
  • I've been having one cup since about 31 weeks. I'll increase to more around 35 or 36 weeks. I haven't noticed any contractions or BHs, but I haven't really had any at any point through this pregnancy.

  • I suck I haven't been to the gym in two weeks :( ahhhhhhhhhhhh I am hoping to have some energy next week to start going 3 times a week again. Still take walks just haven't been daily because of the heat.
  • @bnmort8 the struggle to get out the door is real! Plus now even though I am just 35 weeks I worry about my water breaking out in public especially at the gym.
  • I've downgraded in the last few weeks.  I was still doing the elliptical 2x a week for 45-60m, but the pelvic pain finally put the kabosh on that.  Now I'll go walk, for however long it is comfortable, and lift.  I strained my back on Monday, so I've been off this week, and taking flexeril at night, which helped tremendously.  I was doing pretty much the same at this point in my pregnancy with DS1, and I have a lot more pelvic pain this time, so I'm happy!  I try to walk at work during lunch, but that's only if it's not 1000 degrees outside and super sunny.

I'm not sure I know what you mean by healthy snacks!  :-p  I try to keep apples, clementines, granola and greek yogurt on hand at work for when the munchies hit hard.  But let's be real.  I usually have several ice pops in the evening, and chocolate is always a win in my house.

  • I get so frustrated with my body's limitations.... I know it's creating the miracle of life, blah blah blah, but my "workouts" have taken a deep dive due to pelvic/lower back pain. I mostly just walk, do some yoga here and there, and some light weights at home. I used to run 6+ miles a day and now I'm getting winded walking 2 and it feels like this baby is going to fall right out if I do any more!! I keep saying I'm going to go swimming but can't muster up the energy to hit the local pool...

Ive been eating a lot of yogurt, nuts, and fruit, toast and avocado. Can't get enough water and I'm obsessed with seltzer water right now!

I put on almost 10 lbs in July so I'm trying to be a little more mindful of my eating habits since working out is not feeling good right now but I mostly keep a healthy diet. Im still within the range for healthy weight gain (up about 20lbs total) and my doctor told me not to worry about it but hopefully the trend doesn't continue and weight gain slows down for the next 7 weeks!!

Same struggle with the heat! I woke up at 4am this morning and was just waiting for the sun to come up so I could get in a walk before it got hot!!
  • @jenn622-2 I hear you.  I'm usually pretty active, and it's a hard pill to swallow when you're in late third tri and it feels like your body is just giving up on you.  Truthfully, it's really okay to take it down to a manageable level, and you'll feel better overall if you're not pushing too hard.  I 'feel' better after a hard workout, but I pay for it the next day when my pelvis hurts so badly I can barely walk.  It's a big red flag to take it easy.

You mentioned putting on 10lb.  Have you started swelling recently in your ankles/ legs/ hands?  I gained 5lb in the last 10 days, according to my weight checkups from MW appts.  It directly coincided with the swelling finally starting, and it happened with my first pregnancy as well.  I think I started slowing down/ plateauing towards the end last time, but that may not be what everyone experiences.

  • @ColoradoHiker yes, I did start swelling recently! Hopefully it's just water weight then! Thank you for the reassurance and support.

I hope that by the time our bodies are ready to get back to working out we will be extra motivated by taking all this "time off" from our usual activities and be eager to hit the gym hard and get our mojo back!!
