  • What number are you trying for? 2

    Cycle/Month? Last month TTA

    WTO/TWW? Always WTO

Ages of other child(ren)? 15 months tomorrow!

Any thoughts about this cycle? I would love a cycle! But our goal for this month is to have sex at least twice a week so we are more accustomed to frequent sex when we start TTC next month.

Any questions? Does anyone know if "It Starts With an Egg" addresses nursing while TTC at all? Just curious.

GTKY: What did you want to be when you were little? I wanted to be a teacher, and sure enough, I became a teacher. I always loved school.

  • @lalala2004 No,  unfortunately no info about nursing in "It Starts with the Egg". I've found there's actually not a ton of info around about nursing and TTGP. What is out there can basically be summed up with, "Some people need to wean to get pregnant. Some people don't."

Yeah, it's driving me crazy. I'm going to ask my doctor about Vitex, but I'm afraid she'll tell me just to wean. I've heard that eating a ton of food can trick your body, but I just lost my pregnancy weight and have no desire to gain it back! My biggest fear about TTC is not that it will take longer because I'm still nursing in and of itself, but that I'll actually have to choose whether to totally wean my son or have a second child, and I don't want to make that choice.

One step at a time, though. No cycle by 18 months and I'll try night weaning first.

    Cycle/Month? 2/1

    WTO/TWW? WTO

Ages of other child(ren)? DS turned 3 in May

Any thoughts about this cycle?  I am really hopeful for this cycle.  It would be perfect timing for me because I could tack on my summer break to maternity leave.  I am doing green tea this cycle and am going to try to HIO all of the days of my fertile window.  I am trying not to set myself up for disappointment.

Any questions?  Any magical tips on how to get DS to stop waking up in the middle of the night the night before anything important?  I swear he has a sixth sense.  ;)

GTKY: What did you want to be when you were little?  I wanted to be an actress in musical theater or a teacher.  One of those came true!

@fishsticks-n-custard do you tell him when it is your FW?

@lalala2004 Hi, fellow teacher!  What grade or subject do you teach?
  • @lalala2004 I just called Infant Risk about Vitex in nursing (I call them about any med/supplement I have questions about) and they sounded hesitant to suggest using it while nursing. But they said there just isn't a lot of good data.

@mileswithmyles I feel conflicted about telling him it's fertile window because if I do, he usually just says, "Well we already did it once. No need to do it again." If he's not in the mood. So I've been trying to be more subtle and using my "I'm ovulating, let's get it on" for the positive OPK. Because he's just not the kind of guy who is down to HIO for several days in a row.

  • @mileswithmyles my primary certification is 4-8 Social Studies, but I've taught ELAR and SS 4th grade, 7th SS, and 6th SS for three years. After my son was born the plan was to sub, but I ended up getting a part time permanent position teaching 9th grade World Geography last year. This year I'm planning to sub just 1-2 days a week and I'm now working from home teaching English to kids in China online. The plan is to go back to work full time when we're done having kids and they all reach kindergarten or at least half day preschool. I'm really missing it and I've been so torn between being a SAHM and working mom because I've essentially been doing both part time! But I love being able to stay home with DS.

Sorry for the novel to answer what should be a simple question

  • @fishsticks-n-custard wow, thanks for checking on that for me! I joined a TTC while Nursing Facebook group and they are always recommending it. But there are a lot of crazies in there using unprescribed progesterone and all kind of other things that I definitely side-eye.... It was my understanding that it could potentially dry you up, but if infant risk is wary, I definitely wouldn't want to risk harming my son! My local LLL leader did say they have fertility specialists who are nursing friendly that they can recommend, so at least I know there are some options if I get to that point. I hope I'm just worrying over nothing. I just never considered that I wouldn't have a cycle when I was ready to TFAS. I had every intention of charting as soon as my cycle returned and even using FAM as birth control, yet here I am!

  • @lalala2004 Yeah, I assumed for so long that I wasn't seeing a cycle because I had a Mirena. Then Mirena pulled in Feb and... nothing. Until May. Those first few months the BFN that stung were the OPKs.

I think Infant Risk's concern was on supply taking a hit and not necessarily danger to the infant. But I did give her my info and I have a daughter so maybe that makes a difference? Doubtful but maybe. They said they just have no idea how much is getting into the milk so no idea how much is getting to baby.

    Cycle/Month? 1/1

WTO/TWW? WTO (I assume...my temping has not been going well due to DS's sleep regression/teething/sinus infection trifecta of blech).

Ages of other child(ren)? 16 months

Any thoughts about this cycle? I've never used OPKs but I'm thinking if I don't get pregnant this cycle I might try them since temping is not working.

    Any questions? Nothing right now.

GTKY: What did you want to be when you were little? Like every kid I wanted to be a lot of different things, but for a long time I wanted to be a ventriloquist. I got this "barking" dog puppet named Ralf (https://goo.gl/Bt1erN) when I was in second grade and used to take him everywhere. I recently saw a YouTube clip of that little girl from America's Got Talent who was an amazing ventriloquist and I was super jealous of her because she's really good at it and because she got a hug from Scary Spice.

@fishsticks-n-custard - Is it possible to HIO ever 3 days during your FW, if you know when you may be gearing up to O? H isn't usually in to HIO ED unless he's had a few really good days at work (low stress, etc.) and I've equally been in a good mood, so I'll be shooting for EOD or every 3rd day if possible, myself.
@lalala2004 - Keeping everything crossed that your cycle comes back soon!
@MLS6212 - Did you ever do ventriloquist shows for people? :open_mouth:
@shortstack930 - *hugs* I'm sorry you're facing a hard decision. Do you know whether you're leaning toward surgery or IVF? Keeping my FX that this cycle is successful for you guys.

  • @izza2 I'm leaning towards surgery because I suspect endometriosis but DH thinks surgery won't find anything so he goes back and forth between IVF and just stopping everything and continuing going on our own indefinitely. I'm fortunate that my insurance will cover everything so I don't have to base my decision on finances but then that also makes it harder to choose. I love that you wanted to be an oceanographer!

@shortstack930 - Sending you so many hugs right now! I'm glad your insurance will cover both avenues, but it definitely does make the decision a little more difficult. If you went for surgery first, what would the recoup time be before you can get back to TTGP, do you know?

  • @shortstack930 So would it be a lap just to look for endometriosis or do you already know you have it so it would be more of a resection surgery? That's so rough. I'm sorry you're going through that. I have suspicions that I may have endometriosis as well. (Have a lot of the symptoms, had an ultrasound several years ago which suggested it). I feel like if we hit our 6 month mark (I'm over 35) and can't find anything on the usual testing I'm going to ask for a lap just to check. But it's a hard decision to make. Good that finances aren't an issue though.

  • @hollieileen I was a big hot mess when my DD started talking. She was speech delayed and part of it was relief that she was talking and part of it was getting emotional because all of a sudden she was a toddler in my eyes and not my little baby anymore.

  • @izza2 I know the recovery time is only a week or so but I'm not sure how soon I'll be able to get back to TTC. Definitely something to ask at my appointment.

@fishsticks-n-custard it would be an exploratory lap. The doctor said we could've done it before the IUIs but she thought it was kind of an aggressive approach since I don't have many symptoms. The only reason she suspects it is because ever since I had DD I've had pain in my right hip. Also, I was on birth control for 7 years and got pregnant the second month I was off it so she said the BCP could've masked the symptoms. When I was a teenager I had long (about 8 days), heavy periods and pretty bad cramps. What kind of endo symptoms do you have?

Hi! Newbie here - just intro'd yesterday.

What number are you trying for? 3

Cycle/Month? I've lost count. Just over 5 years.

WTO/TWW? I think I might have O'd yesterday. *TW* Since this is my first cycle since miscarrying, I haven't been tracking anything so I'm not sure. *End TW* I took an OPK yesterday which was + but I really should have started testing earlier since I don't know if yesterday would have been the first +. I had sharp O pains the night before so I'm thinking I may be 1 DPO. I ovulate on my own very consistently after getting a + OPK.

Ages of other child(ren)? 10 yo DD and 5 yo DS

Any thoughts about this cycle? It would be great to get KU on my own without having to start up the IUIs again next cycle but realistically that's not likely to happen.

    Any questions? Nope!

GTKY: What did you want to be when you were little? I wanted to be a wildlife biologist, which I am!

I'm going to apologize upfront for taking some time to read through all of the updates and threads and respond to people with my support. TTGP is a huge board and I can only bump at work at the moment which doesn't leave me a whole lot of time to interact. I'll do my best!

  • Sorry, can't really keep up with this thread since I was gone for a few days but I did see some endo talk with @fishsticks-n-custard and @shortstack930 I wanted to jump in on...

I have endometriosis. I don't really have any insight, just wanted to share what I have gone through with it. I found out through a laparoscopy to remove a tennis ball sized ovarian cyst 5 years ago. During the surgery, the dr found endo "all over" so he removed what he could.

This dx was a total surprise so after doing some research I found that I only had minimal symptoms, and all in hindsight, nothing that made me think something was wrong. I didn't have the typical long or crampy periods, they were always luckily painless and normal duration. But I did feel what I would describe as "spiderwebs" inside if I stretched a certain way which my dr said was a description he heard a lot. My mother does have it too.

Since I only have super minor symptoms from it, I refused treatment which seemed severe (hormone therapy) for a condition that I didn't even know I had. My concern is that it may get worse for me. And it can make getting pregnant more difficult. *TW* Even with the TTC challenges, I was able to get pregnant three times, two ended in MC and I do have a toddler at home *end TW* so hopefully this won't be a problem for me this time or for either of you as well. But I hope you get the answers you both need.
  • @cards10 thank you so much for sharing your experience! I've heard of a lot of women who don't know they have it because they have little to no symptoms. Definitely makes me lean more toward the surgery because you never know.

  • I have a question that I thought was better suited for here than the general questions thread. A (Catholic) friend of mine was sharing all about the different NFP methods and I was pretty intrigued by the fertility monitors. I'm just curious what everyone's opinions were on what is better for cycle 0 (before PP period), using a fertility monitor or just plain old OPKs? I just started tracking CM and since I can't really track BBT, it would be nice to have more data, in just not sure which one would be more helpful. Pros/Cons? Personal experiences?

I never used OPKs when TTC before since I found BBT the most helpful, so this new territory for me.

  • @lalala2004 For my first PP period while still breastfeeding, and I was trying to wean to get my cycle back, I just kept an eye on my CM. When it started to become fertile looking I would use the wondfos to test for LH. When i started to see a medium dark line (still negative but not faint like I had been getting) I ovulated for the first time about two weeks after that. I hope that's helpful.
