When was your first pregnancy appointment?

So according to my LMP I'm 6 weeks, and I won't see my doctor until about 12 weeks. Is that okay? I heard the first appointment is usually between 8-12 because the ultrasound. I'm so impatient and want to go already! I just wanna make sure my baby is ok until then. What are signs that everything is going good health wise that I can take note of until then?

Very normal. My doctors office requires only 1 scan and that's the 20 week anatomy scan. Earlier ones typically are for those that have major reproductive health issues or have had previous losses.

It's not uncommon to be seen for the 1st time around then. Mine was with a nurse practitioner that did a medical history, pap smear, general physical stuff and lots and lots of paperwork. She set up any labs, or scans (if necessary) and the next appointment with the doctor.

Not everyone gets an early scan. The only reason I did was because I just came off of a hormone treatment, got a positive with no period, otherwise I would not have gotten one. I know not all offices are the same, I know mine limits ultrasounds to as few as possible through pregnancy.

This is just my experience, not all offices are the same, though.

It's pretty normal for your first appointment to be about 10-12 weeks. Where I am you only get an ultrasound at 20 weeks, unless you were working with an RE or are having symptoms of an ectopic.

It can be very normal. My old OB scheduled one at 6w2d for a first appt without history of previous issues and did a dating ultrasound then. Part of it may have been though because my cycles were so irregular. I knew when I ovulated because of temping and OPKs, but according to my LMP I would have been darn near 2nd trimester by then. When I got pregnant with my second, my appt wasn't supposed to be until 10 weeks, but I ended up in early because of some bleeding at just after 6 weeks again (everything turned out fine). This time with a new OB they scheduled my first ultrasound for 6w3d and my first appt at 7w3d, but again, my cycles are crazy, and according to my LMP I would be about 2 weeks further along than I know I actually am. 8-12 weeks though I think is pretty standard, and my dating ultrasounds are in large part because of my irragular cycles and having to have planned c-sections for my se. They need to have a very good idea of when my EDD actually is.

I didn't see anyone until 10wks with my 1st, then around 5wks with all my subsequent pregnancies

It is very normal. Usually people only go earlier if they've had issues in the past. If you go too early, there isn't really anything to see. It could also be too early to detect a heartbeat, which would just freak you out even more. It sucks to wait but waiting is a big part of the TTC/pregnancy journey.

I think you are all right. Its my first pregnancy and i am 6 weeks pregnant tomorrow... i made the biggest mistake going for a scan when i was only 2 weeks pregnant and nothing visible, they had to test my blood to see if i am pregnant or not! Waiting for the results and all that was so stressful. It's better to wait for it will save you a lot of stress.

What doctor would schedule a scan at 2 weeks !?!?! That barely when A pregnancy test shows a positive (from my understanding).

I don't even know how it's possible to get a positive at 2 weeks unless it's an early implant or miscalculation of dates.
I also don't understand why there would be a scan at 2 weeks unless it was IVF or such. Weird

First pregnancy, I was 10 weeks for my first appt but did have an outpatient blood test to confirm after home test.
