Infertility

New Girl Here! (loss mentioned)

Hi! I'm new to this message board (and message boards in general). My husband and I have been TTC since October 2014.  I have mild endometriosis, but other than that we've been diagnosed with "unexplained infertility." In September 2015 I had what my Ob-Gyn called the band-aid surgery, a laparoscopy for the endometriosis.  We did three rounds of IUI beginning in January 2016, all unsuccessful.  In June 2016, we began our first round of IVF.  10 eggs were retrieved and fertilized.  5 days later, we did a fresh transfer; the remaining 9 eggs arrested on day 6.  The transfer was unsuccessful.  A few months later we decided to switch doctors.  Our second round of IVF was in October 2016, and a whopping 26 fertilize-able eggs were retrieved, and 7 embryos made it to freezing.  In November, we had our first frozen transfer which resulted in a positive pregnancy test but with low, slow rising hcg.  I miscarried on Christmas Day. Then, in February 2017, I had to have a second laparoscopy and a D&C.

Fast forward to today - Frozen transfer #2 is on the books for the 3rd time.  The first time it was cancelled because of my elevated prolactin, so I was put on Cabergoline.  Once we got that under control, my uterine lining decided not to cooperate.  I had to stay on Estrace for an additional week, and somewhere in that week, I ovulated.  So here we are with FET#2 scheduled for August 14th, the day after our 6th wedding anniversary.  This time around, my doctor has put me on 10 units of Lurpon a day to make sure I don't ovulate.

So that's my story in a nutshell and without the emotional details!  I've been blogging about my story for about a year now, but like I said, I'm new to this whole message board thing and not really sure what else to say just yet. I do hope I can connect with a other women in my boat with upcoming FET's in August.  Oh and I'd also like the rundown on this Lupron! Should I be expecting hot flashes and mood swings soon?!?!?!

Thanks for listening!

  • @brelizhan. Welcome! I am relatively new hwere as well.  So sorry you had to go through all of that.  I know how you feel! We started our IVF journey in April 2017 with our first(and only) egg retrieval.  We decided to skip the IUI's because of my blocked tube.

    Long story short, 11 eggs were retrieved, but we only ended up with 2 normal embryos after testing.  Our first FET was scheduled for June, but at my last U/s and bloodwork they told me it looks like I had ovulated.  So that was cancelled and I was started on Lupron a few days later.  I started with 10 units, just like you.  I was on that for 10 days, until Day 2 of my new cycle.  After my first U/S and bloodwork for FET #2, I was dropped down to 5 units and continued that for another 12 days.  I was lucky during both my IVF cycle and FET cycle to not have many side effects.  At the beginning of my IVF cycle i was a bit more irritable, but that was mainly because of the BC i had to start off with I believe.

    Hopefully you are like me and do not have any side effects from the Lupron. It is such a small dose, just enough to stop ovulation.  For me it was effective and we had our FET on July 13.  I just had my first beta test and it was positive with a pretty high number.  I really hope this protocal works for you!! Are you doing injections or pills?

  • Welcome @brelizhan ! As far as Lupron goes... it gives me pretty bad headaches:(  I hope you fair better then me. Happy early anniversary, August is gonna be a great month for you! FX

    @dreamcometrue2017 Did you transfer 1 or 2?

    Just lurking around here... I am currently benched. I went in for baseline for an August FET and found out I have 3 cysts producing hormones. Waiting for my next us in a couple of weeks. We have one normal boy embryo waiting on me to be ready. He's our only chance because we are completely OOP and can only afford this 1 time. We ended up with 3 embryos but he was the only normal, Fx it only takes one.
  • @amynico we just transferred the 1 embryo.  We have 1 left.  Isn't it crazy how much of a crapshoot this whole thing is?  We can have so many eggs retrieved, then end up with so few in the end that have a chance.  This definitely shows we are some badass, tough chicks though! I really hope that little guy is your lucky embryo!

  • @dreamcometrue2017 It is really a crapshoot especially doing one round or cycle. I really feel like I learned a lot on this journey. If I had the chance to do it over or again, I definitely would do things differently. It's really hard to not know what your body is or isn't going to do. I do agree though, this ivf journey makes us all some badass tough chicks! Thanks for the well wishes! Congratulations on your bfp!
  • I have no information to give, but am sorry you've found yourself here. Much luck in your continued journey with the new clinic.
  • @amynico thank you! Just keep your eye on the prize and stay positive! I know it's easy to get down on yo

  • amynico sorry you were benched and hoping you've got a sticky bean on your hands!  I'm outta pocket myself and my wallet needed me to stop probably 3 cycles ago so I definitely understand.  I dont know where you live BUT there seems to be some states that give grants and help people that are OOP with IVF.  Maybe thats something you could look into.  I"m too old and dont have the time to do any of that...but maybe you do.  I will say I wish I had some of that knowledge when I first started but unfortunately theres so much we dont know that you wish you could try it all over again.  Glad you have your normie in waiting!

    brelizhan welcome and sorry you find yourself here  Sounds like you've had some journey already.  Glad you have some frosties to work with, sound lik eyour miracle is on the way!  I've been on meds for over a year now and feel like i have hot flashed and headaches all the time...hopefully the lupron won't hit you too hard.
