Does anyone have experience with the midwives or labor/delivery wing at UIC in the medical district? That's where my general doctor is and I started prenatal care there but it's hard finding any reviews online. thanks!
Yes. I work at UIC (not the hospital though). I did prenatal care there and delivered my baby there. I was a high risk patient and had a very good experience. I didn't use a midwife, but I've heard excellent things about the midwives there. UI hospital offers free prenatal classes, open to anyone, even if you're not a patient. One of the classes includes a tour of the l&d unit and the mom and baby wing. So you can see it for yourself. The facility is certainly not as new or fancy as other hospitals. But I was very comfortable. The staff is great. My friend works at a nearby hospital in neonatal, and she commented on how big my room was. They are not all private though. Check out the UI hospital website for info on those classes. It's a series of 4, one per week, and restarts every month. One of them is a breastfeeding class. The lactation consultants are very helpful. I took the class, met with a lactation consultant in the hospital right after delivery, and continue to call and e-mail them even a few months later.
