Sorry I've been a little MIA! We had a really busy weekend, and now my mom is visiting for a few days! It's not supposed to be quite so melt-your-face-off hot today so we may take DD to the zoo and splash pad.
I've been MIA as well. We had to drive up to Phoenix for my cousins house warming party. I just have to thank DD for a second. This is the first time since she was born that she slept through the night while not in her own room at home. Praise the Lord there is hope for the cruise next month
@supercoolstephy I looovvveee mine! It's not the ideal tool for all things but man it's worth it for hard boiled eggs that basically peel themselves and home made chicken stick that takes 2 hours instead of 24 to me! I probably use it once a week at least.
@JuliaGoolia719 it's so freaking hot right now and my crockpot overcooks things while I'm at work so I need something that cooks faster and also doesn't make my house warmer like the use of the oven. Ooof.
I discovered last night that sleeping on my stomach is no longer comfortable and I'm having a really hard time trying to find a comfortable sleeping position so the first thing I did this morning was order a pregnancy pillow and I'm really excited about it! I was trying to wait until the bump was bigger but if it'll help me get comfortable then I'm all for it.
@gusgus14 This is me exactly. I wanted to wait. Last time I got mine early on and smooshed it to heck. I'm trying to get in another 4 weeks till I order it. Which one did you get?
@supercoolstephy I got the Snoogle! I'm trying to get out of the habit of sleeping on my back but I have trouble staying on my side so right now I sleep in this weird position where my upper body is on its side and everything from the hips down lies face down on the bed. Hoping the snoogle will help keep me in a good position.
@gusgus14 I think that's the one I'm going to get. That's how I've been sleeping too. My freaking right hip has been killing me too so I slept with my hand under my hip last night. Felt so much better.
RE Instant Pot... I have this one. It's good, not great. The directions are very confusing and I'm scared to use it for all the things that it claims it can do. Curious if an InstantPot is really all that different than this one.
@RC1014 I fully transitioned into maternity clothes (aside
from workout shorts) and am in heaven. Honestly, it’s one of my favorite things
about pregnancy!
My random is that we have an elective US at 6:15 tonight. We already know he is a boy, but I just want to see him in there... I had an US at 7 weeks but he looked like a Rorshach test or something. Admittedly as someone prone to anxiety, I'm a bit nervous parts will be missing or they will see something wrong, but mostly excited!
@missblaze I love the Halloween party idea in July! Was that her idea? So awesome!!!
Horse Update: For anyone wanting updates on my Moms pregnant horse. She has gotten her milk in! So that means anyday from now up to the next 2 weeks she should be having her baby Not a great pic because this was taken at night but here is Mama
@gusgus14@supercoolstephy The Snoogle is amazing. It definitely helps keep me on my side and putting one side of it between my legs -- no more hip pain at all.
@supercoolstephy I have a random pressure cooker that is similar. I like it most for tough cuts of meat that tend to dry out. It's nice to be able to cook a full dinner in like 20 minutes, but I also don't use it as much as I should
@supercoolstephy I've had an instapot for a year and a half, and all I've done with it is use the crockpot functionality. DH and I keep talking about trying to find recipes to use other functions with but just haven't gotten around to it yet. After @JuliaGoolia719 mentioned making hard boiled eggs with hers, I'm totally looking up how to do it. I hate peeling hard boiled eggs!
I had a total stranger (mom at the playground) ask me if I was pregnant. I must be I'm total denial about how big I am! Part of me kinda wanted to say "no", because dang, that's pretty bold. But she was nice, so I didn't really want to do that to her.

I started a new job last Monday after 9 years and my whole adult working career with a different employer. I waited to tell my new employer about my pregnancy because I didn't want to be judged as incapable of doing my job simply because I'm growing a new life (FYI I work in a male dominated field). Told my boss today and he was totally supportive and really happy for me! Now I literally feel like I can shout from the rooftops that I'm pregnant because the nerves are lifted now that my job knows...win!
@supercoolstephy I have the instant pot and like, don't love, it. (Aka I like it as much as any of my cooking tools, but not obsessed like some people can get.) The main thing I would note to you as you're researching and you see recipes like "4 minute x!" That doesn't take into account the time for the pot to come to pressure or the time needed to release the pressure. It can be a really great tool, but I'd just hate you to get it and think you could dump a prepped meal in and have dinner on the table in under 10 minutes since that won't happen.
DS1: Nov. 2013 DS2: Jan. 2016 DS3: Dec. 2017 Baby #4 on the way!
At my Grandpa's funeral, an aunt (who I haven't seen in ages) touched my stomach and said congrats. I held in the, "Girl, I'm just fat" response. It's also the first time in my life I've been touched unbidden while pregnant and it is exactly as unpleasant as I'd imagined.
Also funerals are exhausting; doing grief as a group is way harder than processing slowly.
@EmilyLove25 (and any other vegans) DH and I want to start incorporating more meatless/dairy free meals into our rotation. Any cookbooks or websites with hearty recipes you love?
DS1: Nov. 2013 DS2: Jan. 2016 DS3: Dec. 2017 Baby #4 on the way!
@KatieEl I had a vegan stint for a year not too long ago. I knew it wouldn't be permanent, but really wanted to see what it was like. I really liked "Oh She Glows".
@supercoolstephy and @gusgus14 Thank you for the pregnancy pillow talk! I am trying to use mine from 3 years ago and it is flat and I keep waking up on my back. For some reason my fluffy bump feels like a rock hard when I wake up on my back, thinking I need a new one!
Thanks @KatieEl I love kitchen gadgets so I've been waiting to get one but after cooking with my crockpot lately I've been going crazy. Like tomorrow I was going to make salsa chicken but it's only 3 breasts and I'm not going to put it in the crockpot from 5:45 am till 5:30pm. So even if it cuts my time to an hour, I'll be happy.
Regarding the InstantPot and I love it! My favorite things to cook in it are whole chickens that I can cut up and use in various meals throughout the week, also love that I can put frozen chicken in it and that way it's no big deal when I forget to thaw my meat in advance. I've made spaghetti, ribs, and mashed potatoes (SO quick and easy) in it. I still need to try the hard boiled eggs!
My random, just wanted to say HI again to everyone. I haven't been posting much lately because before last week using my phone, computer or even watching TV made my nausea terrible and gave me huge headaches. I feel better now and am glad to be back
@mindaa I don't take offense anymore when people ask, some ladies are like bloodhounds for pregnancy. My best friend is like that. She was asking me at 5 weeks and we live 6,000 miles apart!
My random this this week is that we went to the allergist this morning to check where DS is at with his dairy and egg allergies and also to test for a shellfish allergy. Good news! No reaction to shellfish and his egg one was almost nothing! Bad news, the dairy one is still going strong... the reaction was worse this time then it was last time. One down, one to go...
Regarding pillow talk.. I HATE my snoogle. I was great and all until about 3rd tri and then I was so uncomfortable I ditched it. It is still sitting in my closet since I paid $60-$80 for it. Blah. I plan on getting the wedge to keep me on my side. I keep waking up on my back as well. @gusgus14@supercoolstephy

@darkrose88 for HB eggs the most common methods are the 5-5-5 or 6-6-6 which means x minutes at pressure, x minutes natural pressure release (just leave it alone after the x minutes of pressure time are done, then after that just release the valve to manually release the rest of the pressure) and x minutes in ice water. I've done both and think they're both fine, but I've seriously never had hard boiled eggs peel this easily! What @KatieEl said about the times is very true, I see a lot of people get frustrated with the IP or pressure cookers in general because they aren't always faster. Depending on how full the pot is it can take 20 min to come to pressure, and if you are doing a full natural pressure release it can take at least that long as well. For example, HB eggs aren't necessarily faster in the IP than on the stove, but in my experience SO MUCH better bc I dont lose half my whites during the peeling. I made meatballs last night for dinner and the pot took about 8 min to come to pressure and then I cooked them for 5 min on high pressure and let them sit for 10 minutes before I released what was left of the pressure. I started to boil the water when I turned the pot on, put the pasta in when it came to pressure and then put the garlic bread in the oven at the same time, dinner was all ready at the same time which is my favorite thing when it comes to cooking dinner lol. (note: you can do pasta in the pot with the meatballs but we were making enough for several meals and I didn't want to find noodles in my meatball sub later this week lol)
@scatteringashes uuggghhhh I'm hoping no one starts touching me! I think I'm showing but then I see pictures and I'm still VERY MUCH in the "fat or pregnant?" stage lol.
Y'all I officially moved offices yesterday and it is AMAZING. My new office is three times bigger and in a much better location/more private and I have a great view out of my window... my old office was a closet with no window that shared a wall with the women's bathroom, so anytime someone showered, I got to "enjoy" the music from the pipes. This is THE BEST.
I think I'm losing an uphill battle with DH. He refuses to be team green. I really wanted the element of surprise. Today, I proposed a compromise. I suggested that we go to an elective place in the next week and a half to get the secret envelope with what we are having. I'd like to do a sex reveal with DH's family next weekend when we see them. This way he gets to find out before baby's birthday and I get an element of surprise. What do you ladies think?
@KatieEl I totally second Oh She Glows... but I also am IN LOVE with the Minimalist Baker! She has a great website but I also love/often use her first cookbook!
Her focus is using whole foods and minimizing ingredients... I've also found that you can add/subtract from a lot of her recipes based on what you have that's fresh no problem. I mentioned this in another post too but love the brand Gardein and often use the recipes they have on their website. They make meat "substitute" products, so, for instance, I use their chicken strips to make Coconut Chicken Curry. Yum!
So I have heard of the benefits of delayed cord clamping, but can someone explain to me what is the birth where the placenta is still attached to the baby? I'm seeing a lot of this on IG. It seems to be a home birth thing.... anyone know?
@burnsmommy27 I don't know a lot about it, but from what I understand the placenta stays with the baby until it falls off naturally. I know potpourri is used to mask the smell of the placenta. I haven't done any research on why or benefits though. Anyone correct me if I am wrong!
