Is there a reason posts are kept to a minimum? I see almost no one posting outside of the weekly/daily threads. Is that just how it is on The Bump?

I think there is a lot to be enjoyed from a little more freedom when it comes to expressing ourselves.

Did you take the time to read the pinned post called BOARD ORGANIZATION: read this first? It does a really good job outlining where to post certain things.

I know it can seem stifling at first glance, but in these early days most posts are about: symptoms/aversions/ultrasounds/exercise/general pregnancy issues. There's a separate post for all of those to which you can contribute. It cuts down on 42 different posts asking "why have my symptoms disappeared???" and keeps the clutter to a minimum. If you have a random thought, post it in the randoms thread! I think there are plenty of opportunities to "express yourself."

...but seriously, read the pinned post. It explains everything.

If you have a cool idea for a thread that is not included in the daily/weekly threads then you can still post. Like I created the thread about registry thoughts.

It's just that having 97342 posts about meat making you vom isn't really useful, generally speaking.

Yes to all the answers by PPs! Also you may want to consider expressing yourself with a more unique username (you can change names at the knot). People may want to tag you and it's really hard to do that with the knottie + all the random numbers

It is definitely stifling. I thought others might feel the same about the strict structure. I have changed my username - here and on the knot and couldn't tell you why it hasn't transferred across??

Anyway. Thanks for the input ladies. I can appreciate the frustration from a cluttered board. See you around.

@Knottie74091607 I definitely see where you're coming from! I was on a bump board for my DS and while there were similar rules and regular posts, it wasn't so strict. It never felt like posts were overwhelming because people did a pretty good job at searching for a similar post before creating a new one. It definitely had a more casual feeling

and the post that was created about the rules was a little offputting to me. I think it's the language and communication style that comes off strict. I don't think people who are new to the bump or just new to participation should feel like they're going to get in trouble for saying or posting the wrong thing. I think everyone should be coming from a place of 100% support and the rules post just doesn't give that warm and welcoming feeling :-)

You could also express yourself through the creation of a unique, recognizable, taggable user name by logging into TheKnot.com and changing yours there.
Edit: I see now that you have tried to change it.

One off posts just encourages a lot of AW, all about me posts with no thought to the community. Other sites are into that. The Bump is into building community.

I don't think the organization is strict at all. You just have to put in the time (about 5 seconds of scanning) through the posts to see where your question/concern/comment will be most appropriate. Having many posts about the same thing pushes the other posts down on the board, making them harder to find. The posts that involve everyone and not just OP should be the ones we can find the easiest.

Also, yeah, there are a ton of other sites where one-off posts are the community-accepted standard so if anyone is dead set against board organization, there are other places to go. But there are no other places to go with organization...

I don't see the board organization as limiting ability for expression of thoughts and concerns. Instead, it makes it easier to find and reply to people's posts because they're, well, organized. I know TB seems "strict" to some, but it's just the culture here FWIW, and again I feel like it's an advantage vs. a disadvantage. I think if you jump right in, you will find the same.
