2 IVF Cycles and 28 years old

Hi everyone, I've been looking for an outlet to talk to people about IVF and have finally decided to write my story on here and see if anybody has had any similar situations to ours.

We have been TTC for 2 years now and began with a fertility clinic a year ago.

We have tried timed intercourse, clomid cycles, several IUIs and now IVF.

I am 28yo and DH is 30. We have other medical conditions (I have a brain condition which I've had two brain surgeries for; DH has advanced Crohn's with an ileostomy bag).

We completed our first IVF in May 2017 - using GonalF, Cetrotide and Ovidrel trigger - egg retrieval yielded 9 eggs, only 4 we're good enough for ICSI. Two died by Day 3, one died on Day 4 and the last one made it to Morula and died on Day 5. So our first cycle was a big failure.

We're in our second cycle of IVF now - using 450 IU Menopur, Cetrotide and Lupron trigger. Egg retrieval will be in a few days from now and so far I have 12 follicles on the right and 5 on the left.

We haven't triggered yet but it's coming.

I wanted to know if there's anyone out there who has had similar results, or has done this max dose of Menopur before.

This whole process has been devastating for me and I'm losing hope. RE has said that if this round ends up like the last one then he will not be recommending IVF anymore.

Hi @dalody - welcome! I'm glad you found us but sorry you have to be here. Have you been diagnosed with anything that might affect fertility?

17 follicles sounds really promising! Don't lose hope!

Your protocol sounds different than mine - I just did a round of IVF with about 450IU of FSH hormones, but half of those were menopur (225IU) and half were another FSH product, similar to Gonal F (puregon).

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you! Sounds like you have been through a lot - that last IVF round must have been devastating!

I'm sorry you have to be here but glad you joined.  I can't give you any insight as DH and I are just starting to look at IVF. GL on your next cycle, I will be keeping my Fx for you. :)

I would say don't lose hope. I have a DOR diagnosis, my max number of follicles in one cycle was 9 and that was a bust as I only had 3 eggs and none fertilized. But I am at my 6th IVF cycle and there are a lot of protocols you can try (antagonist, micro dose lupron, estrogen priming, testosterone priming, sher - and these are just for DOR, I am convinced there are others.) My fist cycle was antagonist (folistim, menopur, ganirelix) and was the best as I had 5 eggs, 2 fertilized and transferred After that the fertilization rate went down and I suspect it was because of the DHEA I was on for a year. I tried cycle 5 without DHEA but I ovulated on my own and now I am trying cycle 6 same protocol hopefully it will be better.
I would say if this doesn't work out and your RE doesn't want to try anymore just find another RE.
    DOR (FSH 13, AMH 0.48, AFC 6-9)
IVF #1 -2016 March, antagonist, 5 eggs, 2 fertilized, 3DT - 8 cell and 6 cell no frag, chemical pregnancy
    IVF #2 - 2016 June, micro dose lupron, 3 eggs, 1 fertilized, 3DT 6 cell, BFN
IVF #3 - 2016 November, estrogen priming + antagonist, 9 follicles, 3 eggs, none fertilized
IVF #4 - 2017 March, testosterone priming + micro dose lupron, 2 eggs, none fertilized
IVF #5 - 2017 May, A/ACP protocol, 4 follicles out of 7 seemed to get to required size, ovulated before retrieval, converted into IUI - BFN
IVF #6 - 2017 July, A/ACP protocol, 3 follicles one stopped growing, LH rising, converted to IUI - BFN
    IVF #7 - 2017 September, antagonist, 5 follicles, 6 eggs,  3 immature, 3 injected, 1 fertilized, stopped growing day 3

hang in there and don't lose hope! I am also younger (29) and its especially hard to be in this situation when all my peers are pregnant so easily and all the time! I think this cycle sounds super promising with 17 follicles. I did max doses of stim (450 of follistim and 150 of menopur) and it was my best cycle ever. Unfortunately I am not a good example of a success story, as we are now moving onto donor eggs, but I have been on these boards over a year, and have seen soooo many ladies have success on their second, third, fourth IVF!

I echo what all of these lovely ladies have said!  You've been through a lot already I'm sorry IVF has to be part of your journey.  I did 300 gonalf and 300 menupar which is the max.  There are many protocols out there and unfortunately its sometimes trial and error.  Hopefully age is on your side and you'll have better luck next cycle.  You move on to other options when YOU'RE the one that is making that decision.  So far this cycle seems to be progressing nicely, hoping it continues!!
