Holiday plans with a newborn

I was wondering what people were planning for the holidays this year with a newborn. Will you be keeping it small, or doing your regular thing? My family is huge which means 40+ people and tons of germy little kids. I am thinking we might skip the big xmas dinner at my dad's and opt for something at home instead.  Would you be worried about LO getting sick at a large family gathering?

Re: Holiday plans with a newborn

  • We are going to keep it low key this year. Invite over grandparents/sibling and skip the big get togethers.

We have a post about people holiday plans already, I'll see if I can find it and tag you!

I've already discussed with DH I plan on staying home with the baby, eating Chinese food with my Dad. If DH goes out with DD he has to bring me mashed potatoes.

  • I originally was in the camp of doing what we normally do, but the closer I get to it, the more nervous I am about bringing my 2 week old to a Christmas Eve party. I feel like I still will have the baby blues, and worry about germs and it won't be fun for anyone.  I don't remember being this anxious with DS...

we are kinda doing what we usually do and kinda going low key.
we will pop into both of our parents houses, but not staying the length we usually do.
    & 100% not rushing around
  • I have a December 2015 baby. He was 3 weeks old when we went to Holiday get togethers. I kept him in the wrap and then people could just peek. I let my grandma and grandpa hold him, but that was it. I'm pretty lax, but totally get it. I'm due the 23rd this time around so thinking no parties this year lol
  • @ameliabedelia-2 I heard that story as well this week, and feeling paranoid already. We're going to be strict about who is with baby. I'm thinking my two little nieces will be out for the first few weeks... they're full of germs from daycare.
  • @ameliabedelia-2 I got a cold sore when DS was less than a week old! It was SO awful not being able to kiss my own baby and being SO obsessive about handwashing and quarantining stuff that may have come into any sort of contact with my face. Though, my midwife theorized that since I was the one with the sore, DS already had the antibodies to protect him, but it didn't stop me from being paranoid about it!
