Real question! Think it's crazy to travel at 33-34 weeks? Planning a long weekend/babymoon to Montreal at 33 weeks + 3 days (6 hour drive). I don't have any signs of pre-term labor and I've been feeling pretty great overall. I'm still going to check with my doctor of course, but is anyone else planning on travelling late in their pregnancies?

  • @thinkpositive2017 omg Tobias!. My only thought about your trip is that the car ride might get uncomfortable.  The 45 min drive to my in-laws had me shifting constantly.  Pillows might help?

  • @Cats*in*space I'm sure I'll have to stop and pee every hour, so we'll take plenty of breaks!

  • @thinkpositive2017 I went to one of my baby showers at 36w, that was 3h away.  The only real down side was that I was super exhausted by the end of the weekend, and the drive home was torture.  I'd make sure you have enough space in your back seat to sit back there if you need to stretch out, but otherwise you should be fine!

If you want to be extra careful, you could double check your insurance and see if there is a hospital that is covered, just in case you really needed to be seen by someone.  Also, you mentioned Montreal, so I'm not sure how that works if you are Canadian, but I'm hoping that it wouldn't be necessary, anyway.

  • @ColoradoHiker I live in the US so I have no idea what would happen if I went into labor in Canada! I guess I should call my insurance company too just to be extra safe. I really don't expect this baby to come before 40 weeks, but it's smart to prepare for all scenarios.

  • @thinkpositive2017 We're traveling from NY to NC (about a 12 hr drive) when i'm 32-33 weeks. My dr said it shouldn't be an issue as long as I stop to walk around every 2 hours or so. We'll probably drive halfway and then stay overnight somewhere anyways just because I forsee myself being very uncomfortable. I'm still nervous about being so far away from home and my dr/hospital so late though!
  • @thinkpositive2017, With DS, I had my baby shower at 35 weeks at my mother in law's house which is about 6 hours away. I would definitely recommend taking frequent breaks as pp have said. Also, I felt fairly confident about the trip because we have Kaiser, and there is a Kaiser hospital close to MIL's house. That being said, I'm still struggling with the decision to return this August for a visit at 36 weeks.
  • @hmclaren @CoastalMomma Thanks! Frequent breaks are a must! I called my doctor and she said to stop every 2 hours to walk and stretch, and to stay well hydrated. Otherwise, she had no concerns. And I called my insurance company and they said I'd have to pay out of pocket initially, but any emergency services/urgent care would be reimbursed at 90%. Looks like we're going to Canada! I ordered an orthopedic sciatica pillow and a lumbar support pillow for the car ride...  :D

Just talked to my ex about the money he owes. I told him if he can atleast come up with 5 of the 17K he owes me I will talk to an attorney to get the order to stop accruing. He said he needed to think and to call him back tomorrow after work. He also informed me that my mother had been calling him when I was going through all that horrible stuff with my husband and his mental health and told him all kinds of lies. So that's neat. I am so pissed. But at least he knows I am a good mom and stopped talking to her. Any way let's hope he can come up with some money to help save the house.with

  • @thinkpositive2017 I did two trips so far one was an 18 hour flight travel day with a 2 1/2 hour drive at 25 - 26 weeks. Then I just did (2) 10 hour flights plus (2) 2 1/2 hour drive at 30 - 31 weeks.  The flight was rough and id take driving any day of the week.  The only thing that sucked was I had to pee during the drive each time about less than an hour in and there are no places to really stop and go on the drive so I had to hold it.  Just bring snacks,  drinks, and take breaks as needed and you should be fine.

I desperately need comfortable nursing bras and tanks and am seriously not looking forward to the whole process.
