I read this article on CNN and thought it was an interesting topic. My son has severe allergies to nuts and recently we found he was allergic to dogs as well. I was very surprised when I found out he was allergic at 2.5 yrs because no one in my family or DHs family has any allergies. So I began to wonder if it is not genetic what else could have caused it. I don't think I ate too much sugar during my pregnancy with him but very interesting link. Does anyone have kids with allergies or Asthama that are not genetically linked and what do you think?

Re: Allergies and Asthama
my husband and I come from very big families and our DD2 is allergic to everything: milk, wheat, peanuts, eggs, soy, dog dander, grass, the list goes on. No history with either my husband or myself (or our parents). He has a brother that had some. There is a link between asthma, allergies and eczema. My daughter has severe atopic dermatitis(eczema) and that is how she developed her allergies. If she eats something or has a reaction to a allergen/ she goes into a eczema flare. They have a lot of nick names and literature on the subject. The atopic trio is one.
Its horrible to see a child suffer through, very little sleep and lots of itching!! In terms of the article I find that hard to believe- although I will say I have considered all the allergies these days having something to do with the food items we eliminate while pregnant which didn't happen 20-30 years ago.
