@Brooklynmommy83 I did a lot of research recently because we are going with a mini crib. There seems to be a lot of variability in sizes of cribs (length, width). So, partly it will depend on which mini crib you buy. Unfortunately, beyond that it will depend on the size of your baby and how fast they grow. Good friends of ours had a mini crib when they had their first, and he was a large baby (9 lb) who has always been at the top of (or beyond!) the growth charts. He grew out of the minicrib in about 4-6 months, I think. They seem to be designed to fit an average baby for a year. Smaller babies could go longer.
When you say mini crib do you mean a bassinet or a small crib? We used he halo bassinest for the first six months in our room. And then he went to a regular sized crib in his room. He's using it now as a toddler bed.
@TeacherMama7 I was referring to a small crib. We are room sharing for 9-12 months before we move to a bigger place, so we needed something that could make it that long while still fitting in our bedroom.
Following because we're looking at a Mini Crib as well. We registered for the Babyletto Origami mini crib, which is the size of a standard pack 'n play mattress. Amazon reviews indicate, depending on the baby size and sleep activity, transitioning to a toddler bed somewhere between 1-2 years. That is when all my siblings and I transitioned as children and I anticipate doing the same for this little one.

If it's the size of a pack n play, you can use that for a very long time. My DS is a very big 2 year old - probably 37 inches or so - and he still sleeps in our pack n play when we're out for the night or nap time.
We used a bassinet with our first at 8-10, and he used that for about 4 months before he outgrew it and moved to a standard crib. For the second at 10-10, we skipped the bassinet because he didn't fit at all and got a mini crib so he could stay in our room for night feeds and whatnot. He stayed in that crib for about 6 months before he outgrew it and then he slept in the pack'n'play until he wore it out, as in he literally wore holes in the fabric. Now he is in a standard crib and will be there until we need the it for this little girl. For at least the first 6 months she will be in the mini crib in our room, then move to the big crib when DS2 moves to a bunk bed with DS1. I'm praying she is smaller than her brothers were so this plan actually works out.
Re: Anyone use a Mini Crib with previous little one
She was pretty average for height and I would have said maybe by 12 months she would not have had the room length wise.
Hope this helps.
Our mini crib is 39 x 27.
