December 2017 Moms

Moving Moms

Hi All,

I know several Saturday moms are moving and several already have.

How did it go?
Any rants or raves?
Any spouse that we should nominate for Time Person of the Year?

Re: Moving Moms

  • Just dropping in to say.... we are currently house hunting and the rate things are going I'm beginning to think we won't have one by my due date. I'm trying to be OK with our current situation but on the inside I'm completely upset about it and want to be settled before the baby comes. I also know that worrying won't change anything sooo

  • Our offer just got accepted this past week and we have to close in 30 days. Cue me freaking out.  So much to do!

  • Our house is on the market and we have an offer that was accepted on another house. Now we're just waiting for offers to come in for our house. Ugh so stressful.
And THEN we have to remodel the kitchen and install hardwood floors throughout the entire house. In 2 months. Yeah, I'm going to be freaking the F€#% out. Moving in will be the easiest part of this whole situation! Lol.
But when it's done, it's going to be soooooooo amazing. I'll post pics :)
  • We just signed a contract on a house and will close late this summer.  After that we'll fit in whatever renovations we can before the lease on our apartment is up in October and wait until the absolute last minute to leave NYC for the burbs!  I'm excited but super nervous to be moving at 7+ months pregnant - at least I'll have some time to set things up (and enlist lots of help) before then.

  • We moved into my moms about 2 weeks ago so we could fix up and get our condo sold. We put everything in storage. We didn't want to deal with having to leave etc so people could come look at it. It worked though: got an offer after a week and now it's supposed to close July 27th.

Packing was challenging. We started that right when I was going through all the 1at trimester fatigue. I was also so emotional. My hubby ended up doing much of it. He's the real MVP. I did a box or 2 after work and then would go sleep or be lazy while he did more. He was great about it and would tell me to go lay down. I felt so useless though and I know it was probably frustrating for him, even though it never showed.

Now we are settled in at my moms until we find a new house that we like. Which is a challenge cuz everything in our price range goes QUICK and often there are bidding wars. We are going to look at several this weekend. Hopefully we can find something that will work for us.

We decided that when we get our new house we will just hire movers to bring everything over. So much easier.

  • DH and I moved our family from Wisconsin to southwest Utah 3 weeks ago. He drove the moving truck and I had the pleasure of driving our minivan with our 3 girls (ages 7,4,3) the whole way... all 1400 miles.
I nominate myself for person of the year.
  • Haha I'm proud of you @eazybreezy225 and @moonlady-2 for packing stuff

@Piccola1988 @Marley629 @AMCsquared it sucks being in the not knowing phase and even worse the prepping phase when all you really have is your anxiety...  <3 to you all

As for me I am sleeping on a mattress on the floor in my new rental. All my stuff made it. Movers definitely are the Villain of the year. They not only have is less than 12 hours notice that they finally got it together to move our stuff but then ended up charging $2385 for a job they estimated at $1800. Charged an extra $240 when here in person. The cost of the last minute plane ticket $400 in addition brings total to about $3000 which is almost double what we were quoted.

Hubby gets person of the year bc with 12 hr notice he packed the rest of our stuff and drove 8 hours through the night w three cats in order to meet the movers.

I like the new house except the master bedroom is painted Ruby red and it's stressful
  • @eazybreezy225 you are person of the year.

I'm deadbeat of the year bc all I did to facilitate this move is find the house and handle the lease deposit etc and my husband literally did EVERYTHING else
  • We moved from Kentucky to California when my daughter was exactly 4 weeks old.  Bless you all that are going through this.  We just built and when I was lugging crap up stairs I vowed never to move again... Its the worst!
  • I just packed up DS room and it was super bittersweet. I'm so happy to move to this new house and new town but I can't help to think of all the memories and all of the firsts we have had here.

Also, I need a magic wand to pack the rest of house because 1 room down and I'm exhausted.

We have 11 days before we have to be out of our apartment and moved into the new house. We are down to beds, tv, and one couch left to move out of the apartment. The problem is, we bought SO's grandma's house after she passed away several months ago and the house is still FULL of her stuff. All of our stuff is just piled together in the basement. There is no room at all. I'm trying to be sensitive about the situation, but SO's family has had over seven months to get everything moved out and sold. We've been trying to work on it ourselves but they don't want us going through stuff without them there. It is so frustrating, and there is pretty much nothing I can do about it. I had all these hopes of getting the carpets cleaned, painting, bug bombing etc. Before we move in, but instead we'll be lucky to get a place cleared to put our bed..
  • @ChelK3 I'm sorry about that it sounds very stressful
  • We sold our old house in December and signed a contract on a new house under construction. We've been living in a tiny apartment since then and just found out today closing on the new house is scheduled for July 24! Not looking forward to moving for the second time in one year but so excited to settle into our "forever" home!

@jackiesmom324, I remember your concerns about the area you were moving to and was wondering how everything is going for you?

  • @thatlauragirl things are going really well. I feel very blessed

I'm so glad to hear about closing on your house. Man oh man now that we've gotten out of the tiny apartment I really wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. People must really love new York to live in those tiny apartments for life omg so happy for you is it your dream house? Any features you are super excited about ?

The house we are renting now I love bc it has a screened in front porch , open kitchen with a bar and a full size fridge and two full baths and laundry lol. It even has more than 2 rooms and a whole second floor

  • We have our home inspection tomorrow. I'm just excited to see house again!

  • Yay @Marley629 that's so exciting
  • @jackiesmom324, I'm so happy for you! I'm most excited about having 2 bathrooms again and a nice screened in porch. It's hot as hell here in Florida right now, but I can't wait for fall to hang out outside all the time!
