Started this thread somewhat selfishly: I am a FTM and a planner. I am in bad need of book recommendations. I've done some of my own research and concluded "What to Expect" is probably not going to be my jam. So for STMs/TTMs who don't like "What to Expect", what did you like? How's the Mayo Clinic Guide? Would love to hear your thoughts.
I really only read what to expect @vflux33 so I'm not very helpful. I have heard good things about expecting better. I also loved the womanly art of breastfeeding.
AFM, my H is in town visiting (he's still living where we moved from until August). So I'm super excited!
If you lurk the February board they had some good recommendations that I'd never heard of--I definitely just winged it the first time and the only thing I wish I'd researched before baby was here was Baby Led Weaning. The book was really informative and something I wished I'd read before we were trying to start solids.
My SIL, who is a doctor, read this with her first pregnancy and felt like the advice, given by doctors who were pregnant/had babies, was really solid and well balanced from many perspectives and experiences. DH and I borrowed it, and we read one chapter on the day of my next week (e.g., we read Ch. 7 when I turned 7w0d). I loved the way it was written and felt well informed the whole way!
We had my college roomie, her DH, and her 3 boys stay with us the last few days and it was amazing. My roommates and I all live in different states now, so getting together is tricky, but our kids are now getting close with each of our visits and I LOVE IT!! We're growing our tribe steadily! With that said, we don't have a huge house, and we had 4 boys under 5 and 1 girl running around like wild, and now that they left, our house feels so quiet and relaxing
Also, one of our other roomies joined us, and she is 18 weeks pregnant. She doesn't look pregnant, and this is her second. I hope I can manage that at least through 10 weeks...
I follow a lot of the pregnancy rules that most people think are silly.
Today I took my crabby two year old to a local first responder fundraiser lunch. It's an annual thing but we just had a police officer shot & killed on duty. His services were yesterday so it was EXTRA busy and crazy. I don't regret going but was getting so stressful that I had myself an ice cold, full of caffeine, soda.
@vflux33 Ina May's Guide to Childbirth is an interesting read if you're into stories and tactics for unmedicated childbirth. Pretty crunchy, if that's your thing.
I think MH has Couvade Syndrome! He's been nauseous and fatigued so much so that he told me he thought I might be pregnant before I even tested - just based on how he was feeling. He was obviously right! He naps when I nap and tries to eat small meals throughout the day like I do to keep his queasiness at bay. I think it's cute/funny.
Depending where you land for preferences... Ina may guide to childbirth can be very affirming and help keep a positive perspective on natural childbirth. If you plan to nurse, womanly art of breastfeeding is a must have resource. I read through it during my first pregnancy and didn't retain it all but hwen I ran into issues I had a place to look. For parenting stuff I like dr sears. Again it depends on where you land... there's is a vast range. I lean more hands off both in terms of spanking etc and how I approach parenting (anti helicopter)
i did use what to expect for pregnancy... didn't love it. I found I preferred online resources for keeping up week to week.
My oldest has moved into drop off play date phase and it is awesome. Honestly easier for me to host too... his BFF came over today and all three of my kids were totally entertained the whole time. And since I wasn't playing hostess I was able to do laundry etc
I bought a few book and honestly didn't really read any of them other than skimming through. We went to a first birthday party today and I'm feeling all sorts of emotional about DSs party in a few weeks. I just can't believe how fast it really went. On that note... anyone else slightly freaking out or have had experience with 2 under 2?!

I'm about to have two under two! My oldest is 9 months, and I'm five weeks pregnant. I'm excited! I've always wanted two or three, and for them to be close together! It's going to be a lot, but it will also be a lot of FUN!
My friend brought La Croix home for me when they stopped at the liquor store for the rest, and I have to admit (so maybe this belongs in FFFC??), I am a La Croix convert. I think I tried it when I was a kid and have since assumed it wasn't my thing, but pregnant me appreciates it very much! Cran-raspberry, at least, is worth every sip
@LiveNLove44 yes! Cran-raspberry is awesome! I have a case of that in my fridge haha it's my mocktail at night when DH drinks a beer
@scoogy19 I am a little freaked out about having 2 under 2 mainly because DS is a huge mama's boy and is super clingy. I don't think I have ever met a clingier kid in my life. So that makes me a little nervous. My husband keeps saying that he will be twice as old as he is now when the new baby comes so hopefully he will have figured life out a little better. We will do great though!
My first two were 2u2 - it's awesome. They were instant bffs, Henry doesn't remember life before his brother and they are soooo close. They are usually basicaly on par with each other, already at 6&4! This summer Henry's jumped ahead a bit having completed kindergarten but they are mostly peers.we have really loved gen age difference. In fat I found having a really handful 4yo and infant much harder to juggle than a toddler and infant (when I had number 3 my oldest was 4).
I've only tried the lemon (I think??) La Croix and was horrified at the taste. Is it worth trying other flavor or is it likely I won't like any of it? It just seemed.... bitter.. tart? I don't even know how to explain it I guess.

I started with lemon and then tried others, and I hate them all. My husband claims it's an acquired taste. I totally get the bitter thing. They're awful
A Mom friend posted on FB that she was trying to kick her soda addiction and she posted all of the La Croix flavors she had tried and basically ended it saying they all sucked and if it's an acquired taste it's one she will never acquire and she's sticking to soda.
The pineapple strawberry la Croix is sooo good! I'm trying peach next. @pghctwife that's great to hear!! I have always wanted them close in age but still a little nervous!
@scoogy19 I'm feeling the nervousness for 2u2 as well. I just keep telling myself that tons of people have done it...so I can too. And my 7yo says he'll help...
@kalawa I babysat for a while when my DS was born and the kiddos were 6, 1, and my newborn. The six year old was a HUGE help!!! I bet your sever year old will love having some big brother duties!
2u2 scares me! There is an 8 year difference between my two sons. And my oldest has been so incredible with my 10 month old. But I have no idea what to expect once I have a 19 month old and a newborn.
@scoogy19 Luckily he already is a big help with my 11mo...loves to play with him while I make dinner, etc. My SO works 24hr shifts, so those are the days my oldest helps the most. Hopefully he's up for extra big bro duties...just "no poop" is his rule.

Have a great time with YH @heatherdubrow!
