Honestly, today I had to just grab something after the kids were done with swimming lessons because the thought of making/smelling something made me feel worse. I got a sandwich so fairly healthy. Won't be able to do that every day, but today that's what worked best.
I always have food aversions when I'm pregnant so it helps to have tons of snacks around for the morning sickness. I buy fruit and we cut it up as soon as we bring it home so that it's easy to grab when hunger strikes. And DH likes to decompress from his day by cooking so that's a win. I just find it is easier if I already have good choices to choose from. And then when I want pizza ((like today)), I have it.
I found that making protein smoothies really helped me get good balance in my diet (macros and micros), and they generally appeal to most palettes (sweet, fruity, etc.). Find a good protein powder and try out some mixtures. Here are two that I really like: 1 frozen banana 1-2 T. nut butter 8-10 oz water add a scoop of chocolate protein powder to complete a PB/banana/chocolate shake!
1/2 frozen banana 1 cup of strawberries (frozen) 4 oz. orange juice 4 oz. water add a scoop of vanilla protein powder to complete a "city sunrise" smoothie
You can add a lot of different frozen fruits to these, and you can always blend in some veggies, too. They were a life saver through my first pregnancy when all I could stomach was bread, noodles, etc.
You might also try a cereal like Total that can pack a bunch of nutrients into an easy meal.
Do you live near a Whole Foods? The hot bar was my kitchen my first trimester of my last pregnancy. We've moved though and the closet one is 45 minutes away, so I have no idea what I am going to do. Fortunately (or unfortunately??), I don't really have a choice to prep healthy food this time around since I have to feed my 14 month old.
With my first, the only things I could stand to eat for the first trimester were grilled veggies and fresh fruit. That diet and the nausea was a great diet plan. It was probably the healthiest I've ever eaten
I had horrible morning sickness and good aversions when I was pregnant with #1. So I tried to eat snack foods as meals when I could. A handful of blueberries, some crackers, a carrot, homemade smoothies, nuts, etc. anything to help keep my stomach calm in small doses that I didn't really have to make.
Then the morning sickness really really kicked in and the only thing I could keep down was Taco Bell and blueberries. So now I say if you can keep it down and healthy and it's a snack food cool. The important thing is to just keep something in your stomach if at all possible.
Re: How do you eat healthy when feeling nauseous?
Try and eat smaller meals. I felt like if I ate everyone 2 hrs I was ok. It gets better 2nd trimester!
1 frozen banana
1-2 T. nut butter
8-10 oz water
add a scoop of chocolate protein powder to complete a PB/banana/chocolate shake!

1 cup of strawberries (frozen)

4 oz. water

With my first, I couldn't eat any vegetables which made making dinner and my husband's lunch a task. Honestly, I plugged my nose.
As far as actually eating, truly, eat what you can. Baby yogurt drinks saved me in my first trimester.
Right now, feeling very lucky to be feeling good. I've been working out, drinking a TON of water and I eat before I feel queasy.
